Justin, how do the driving dynamics of the 2004 TL 6-speed compare to the BMW 330i?
Does the 6-speed TL feel faster or slower than the manual 330i?

I agree. That body side molding is worst than ugly!!!!!!

But the 18s are SWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETT!

Justin-

Does it have the hump in the center of the back seat floor?
How many power positions does the passenger seat have?
Do it have adaptive cruise control?

If some of these questions were answered in the past, please forgive me!

Since I drove to the test I was relegated to the middle back on the ride back. I'm 6 foot 230 and it was a little tight. The car is just so different from the current TL. The sound system is INCREDIBLE!! It has a good driving feel. Camel is darker than parchment, a little orangy. The quartz and the ebony with the carbon fiber trim were sweet.

Thanks (once again) for all the info. Justin.

I'd just like to chime in and say that I'm not feeling the aero kit at all, but the wheels are nice and the lip spoiler might be something I would consider depending upon how it looks in person.

I can't wait to see pics of the TL in Blue and White as they become available. I think either of those colors would look great with the 18" gunmetal finish wheels and tinted windows. Big Pimpin! Acuras always look good in metallic/pearl white IMHO.

I'd like to hear more about the interior, and photos if possible.

And to think, we get to do this all over again with the new RL in the spring! And then the NSX...

Cool! Where did they let you take the car? Plus, I was thinking about the DVD issue, did you put the DVD into the CD player in the dash? Could it be that you can play movies from the Navi dvd drive in the trunk (or under the passenger, do you know where it is). Since the navi DVD drive shows the map video on the screen maybe the DVD video comes through it. The Honda press release said that the ELS system couldnt play it, but nothing about the navi drive. Since the navi is also connected to the speakers the audio could still be as good!

P.S. how are the pics going? We appreciate your work Justin!

Justin, thanks for the info about the display of XM song title and artist name on the non-Nav screen. You may have just saved me $2,000 as I can no longer think of any reason to order the NAV screen. We now know that NAV doesn't provide any additional XM data and cannot display DVD video. The only advantage it provides for XM radio is to offer 6 touch screen buttons allowing selection a variety of programmable XM channels. I think that I'll hold back on putting down a deposit untill I've had a chance to do the test drive. Perhaps the up close "cool factor" will yet win me over to NAV. More likely though I'll opt to save on the bottom line.

Oh no I just read Ryder's post about playing the DVD from an alternate location and now I'm back on the fence
I guess that means the test drive is even more important. There's no way I could put down a deposit without knowing whether or not I want NAV. Does anyone know if test drives will be possible the week before the official sales date of October 6?

Also, I sent an email to the editor of edmunds editor@edmunds.com in regards to their claim that it plays DVDs, and am still waiting for an answer. I doubt they will reply though. Maybe, we should all send emails to them, and they may reply...They can tell us if it was an error or not.

Again I tried it and also asked the Acura rep...and its a no.

Also with the tire pressure system the deadline is not for MY04 cars but MY06 cars. There are two types of system a direct and indirect system. All Acura products will use the direct system. What that bascially means is the system will know which tire is low in pressure vs the indirect system where it knows there is low tire pressure but will not show which one it is.

The audio system plays CD and DVD-audio...not DVD-video. They make it mistake with the whole DVD thing.

Oh, OK, I thought you only put it through the ELS, thanks for trying! How did Edmunds come up with this?

They're not going to reply personally. You're going to find your answer when they print your letter in next month's Letters to the Editors. I e-mailed them in the past and didn't receive an answer either. Then I was surprised to find my letter and a reply in next month's batch of letters to the editors; I thought they just ignored me. Don't expect much though, they'll edit your letter in any possible way (I hate that!) that they deem necessary, and their answer will most likely be pretty vague (ie "ugh, it worked for us").

I think some of it may be Acuras fault for just saying it can play DVDs. Alot of people will assume DVD-videos(movies)...when the DVD-audio format is not something alot of people are familiar with.

CD=music
DVD=movies
and now there is DVD-A

Thank you, Justin for sharing your day with us.

Too bad about the TPM.

By any chance, were the mirrors power folding?

How was the new, bigger moonroof?

The 18" rims were awesome. Wonder how they will look with SSM and ABP?

How was the shifter? Was the clutch like the one in the Accord 6MT? Assuming you have driven it...

Do the driver profiles have independent stereo presets?

Did you have a chance to use the MID? What data did it list?

Justin, I hate to beat a dead horse, but then again why not? When you say that you tried "it" do you mean that you actually placed a DVD in the trunk DVD player and came up with nada? Go ahead say it, say, "Come on Peter can't you read English.". I can take it!

thanks Justin, i do have a couple questions. were all the cars in the R/D equipped only with automatic transmissions? if so, then the TL offered (standard tires/brakes) was probably the worst handling version available. And was the BMW equipped with either the sports or performance package? i'm guessing it wasn't based on it's relatively high n/v/h ratings it got from you, and i was suprised by your evaluations since i always thought the 330i was right there with the G35 in performance and handling. thanks again.

Thank you, Justin.

Am I to assume the other things, Avg speed, avg econ, instant econ, DTE, etc are integrated into the navi, like the Accord?

Justin (and all others who saw/drove the car),

What did you think of the quartz vs. ebony (did one stand out more than the other)? Is the color and appearance of the leather similar to that of the TSX?

Oh, and did you hear anything about the 6MT delay?

Thanks...

I placed a DVD-video in the Navi unit to see if it will play movies while the car was in park...Answer...NO! Then I asked one of the Acura techs about playing movies in the TL navi unit...he said there are NO software to support video playback.

I mean what are you going to do sit in the car while its in park and watch Lord of the rings.

Whatever you can supply we appreciate! Thanks!
My paypal account is listed under Justin...you guys feel free to donate so I can pay my bills this month.

I tired sitting still for an hr to write a detail report on the R/D but since I have been in the office since 9am and am still at the office I haven't had the time to work on it. I tired to just jog down the things that pop up and summarize it that way since it takes alot less time.

Oh what do those techs know anyway?
It's the electrical engineers in Tokyo who matter! Bottom line is there still is a shred of hope that the trunk unit holds the key to video nirvana.
