Transmission Problem ???

I have a 2015 RDX with 191k on it. It's been flawless. As of late, I'm getting shifting issues, 2nd to 3rd....3rd to second. Upshifting can feel like a slip, (the revs jump a bit), then into 3rd. Downshifting from 3rd to 2nd can produce a clunk / jolt feel. Both of these don't happen all the time....maybe 3 out of 10 times. I had the routine trans flush, (this was the 4th), so I take care of it. Question is, is this the beginning of the end? The car's in perfect shape otherwise. No rust or dents, recent brakes and suspension, etc..... A new or re-man trans would be a few thousand, I'm told. thanks.........any input or feedback.

I hate to be that guy but you should never get a transmission flush, only drain and refill. Flushes are meant to be done with instances like the wrong fluid being used or if something like water gets into the system.

Hello Alex......you're correct. It wasn't a flush, it was the standard dealer performed trans fluid replacement. Nevertheless, is it time to sell it? I'd rather not, but I don't want it to completely fail. Thanks.

Sounds like it's just the 3rd gear pressure switch(es?). There's 6 switches total on this car, but I never narrowed down exactly which switches control which gears. I think maybe in the past I had some documentation on it. I can try to find it for you if you're down to replace it. The hard part though is confirming you're replacing the correctly needed switch as a one-off, verses dropping the money to just replace all 6. If you want the car to last forever, there's merit in replacing them all but it'll be expensive, especially if you have someone else do it. If you do it yourself, it's relatively easy and OEM parts will cost you maybe like $400.

Thank you TSB. I believe I'm relatively handy, I did the brake job on the car, have worked on old Rovers, etc..... Are the switches tough to get to? Are there videos on line? If you have documentation, I'd love to see it. Thanks.

One more item.....are all the pressure switches the same part number? I know I need to confirm the 3rd pressure sensor to replace, but, are all the actual sensors,
the same part number? thanks.

One more item, where's the best place to buy a new pressure switch? OEM dealer or other????
Are the sensors exactly the same? If I wanted to replace more than one, are the switches interchangeable or are they specific to one gear?
Thanks,.

I would stick to OEM for pressure switches and transmission fluid. Look at the online sellers.

There a 3x of one type of transmission pressure switch, which are green in color, and 3x of another type, which are black. Six switches total, all right next to eachother located on the valve body for the transmission, but again I can't remember which is which. I'm having deja vu of illustrating the specific switches in a post from years ago, I'll try to dig that up here.

See post #14 here at this link. I did not remember correctly, only the green ones are on the valve body. I would replace the switches that align with your issue....aka the 2nd and 3rd gear switch. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rdx-...cement-993904/

I would check the transmission fluid level first. Low fluid will trigger this code. Next, I would do a transmission drain and fill (3x). I believe the correct fluid is DW-1; Honda or Acura brand should work.

Clear the code and see if it comes back.

ok is there like an off brand well not off but not Honda or Acura brand transmission fluid? That would act as the same?

I'm sure Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, Napa, O'Reily's, etc, have transmission fluid that meets the specs for your RDX which is DW-1.

The comparable spec fluid Aisin and Idemitsu off Rockauto are both the same spec as OEM DW-1, if you're trying to save a buck. Otherwise, it's really not terrible from my local Honda parts counter, like 10 bucks a qt.

Few of us here are running Valvoline Maxlife full syn and find it works great. I've been running the roads for years with it and works just fine. Rest of the fluids , like tranfer case and rear diff , I only run the Honda products.
