Wow, that's sweet. When they come out with the 6mt, I'll take a hard look at a black GT ...

Sounds like they put a really restrictive exhaust on the G8 GT. The sound is muffled and the power doesn't match what the LS2 puts out in other cars. Nothing a true dual 3" exhaust can't fix though....

it's funny and sad when i see pictures in these new car/model threads. and whether it's BMW or lexus or audi or hyundai or pontiac or mazda, everyone's got good things to say.

then you look at the acura threads, and everyone's just disappointed.

it seems like everyone's making nice looking cars these days but acura.

Post 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP to use 6.2L Corvette Engine

Whoa momma.

From WCF...

Fear of new CAFE fuel economy standards have lead many to believe that modern day muscle cars will soon face the same fate as their forerunners, but new reports indicate GM has other plans. A leak by a Pontiac dealership employee has lead to speculation that the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP will be powered by GM’s LS3 6.2L V8 which is also used in the Corvette. The engine produces 430 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft. of torque, but expect it to be detuned for use in the G8.

Based on the rear wheel drive Australian Holden Commodore, the Pontiac G8 is offered with a 3.6L V6 engine which produces 256hp and 248 lb.-ft of torque or a 6.0L V8 cranking out 361hp and 385 lb.-ft of torque. The G8 GXP would square off against the Chrysler 300C SRT8 and the Dodge Charger SRT8 both equipped with a 6.1L HEMI engine which puts out 425hp and 420 lb.-ft of torque.

Some of the interior details is a step back, but somewhat negligible given how much bang for the buck you'd get. Sooooo... $32K V8 RWD car +springs/shocks & bigger shoes = awesome

Just like the Goats (SSs, Cudas) of the 60/70's...felt the same way about my three..this was the first one...notice true hardtop....http://ultimategto.com/cgi-bin/showc...967/67_00003_2

The G8 GT is faster than most the goats, handles and trust me will have a huge safety advantage... ....get em before the 'cafe' nannies tell you how to live...

This car was my biggest dissapointment from the Chicago Auto Show. This car looks great on pics, inside and out and live, it's very different. Very poor quality inside and out in this case. The LS3 may make it compete with the 300C SRT8 but only that's because that is also a very poorly quality vehicle. The only surprise with the G8 was its vast rear passenger interior room.

Were we looking at the same car? I sat in the black G8 at the Chicago Auto Show and was impressed with the quality.

Like i always said.........I loved the new GTO.........however it shouldn't have been called a GTO. So the way i look at it is this....this G8 looks good and has power just like the goat...and looks like a grand am(lol), however because it is not called a GTO..........

equals goodness. This car should be quite awesome and lets hope it is realiable.

G8 vs RT

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.*

Write up gives +s to handling, ride, tranny and go...price point is outstanding...

do not worry about the knocks it gets here as some on this site are blinded by bias for certain mfgs...I get a kick out of the reliability mention when stats say that GM is coming around...plus name the cars/trucks with 5/100,000 drive train warranty...that covers 20,000 miles per year..about average..

I'd take a GM over a Chrysler product 100% of the time in terms of reliablity.

Love the G8, saw it at the Toronto Auto Show. Love the style, interior, performance, price, interior (deserves to be mentioned twice)... everything except... those damn tiny brake lights... The back of the car looks beefy and muscular and they put some 8 inch tall lights...

That still wouldn't stop me from buying one though...

Nope, I was actually kind of impressed with the interior quality at that price point.

I don't think I was influenced, in fact I'd think it's the other way around. I am accustomed to sitting in German luxury car interiors

wow....
the G8's suspension could be a direct lift from the BMW 5 Series. It isn't, but the G8's MacPherson strut front and four-link rear suspension with progressive-rate coil-over shocks is very similar to the BMW's traditional 5 Series design. As a result, the Pontiac G8 GT rides a lot like, yup, a BMW.

So what's your problem with GTO being named a GTO? Are you saying that if it had been named G7 you would have immediately run out an bought one?

I could care less what my Goat's name. If anything I like that it is called a GTO. But to me, the most important aspects are the goodness under the hood and also a great interior.

I looked in the G8 at the Cleveland Auto Show over the weekend and am impressed with the interior quality. I like the exterior looks. I plan to test drive one when they are released in April. I won't give up the RL for one, though.

I thought it was the worst-kept secret in the world that the new Commodore/G8 was basically a reverse engineered E39 M5.

If true, they picked a great car to copy...

Correct. It's an engine GM has been using in Australia for a while now. It's cheaper to make than an LS2. Its code is L76. It's 4th generation of their small blocks.

Whoops... how embarrassing. I automatically assumed, despite the DOD, I just saw the Gen IV architecture and the 6.0 displacement and though it was a detuned, more eco-friendly LS2. I thought they would follow suit in the HSV Commodore's footsteps.

Play the Vids and listen to the engine...what a V-8 is about...33 big ones, not bad...Oh, but the interior or it does not have those little lights in the side mirrors...come on folks this is bargin muscle in a car that all reports say it handles, rides good...looks better than most..at least give it a ride...on second thought never mind..wrong forum...

Many people are hoping that the GXP version of G8 will have an LS3

From leftlane: Also as a result of its Australian roots, the G8’s interior is very handsome and its fit and finish is top notch. Material quality isn’t quite top notch, but it’s light years ahead of where GM was just a few years ago.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/pontiac-...html#more-6666

C&D likes J&G cars...people are slow to take up on a drivers car...listen to the guy on the topspeed vid ..."so stong...so strong"...If one is into interiors and harddrive audio look else where...want a strong, good sounding, smooth V-8, GT touring car that handles for 30 large look here.....
