Well tell you what, I am willing to bet some of this info isn't true.
I am going to see the designer of the Z next week at the International Z convention as I know him. I will ask him myself how much truth is in this.

Wow, I have two VQ engines and while they have been wonderful in performance and power, they do lack in refinement in the noise department. I hope that MB will be able to get Infiniti and Nissan vehicles to keep their power but quiet them down a little bit so they sound more refined!

note: I have a VK engine, so I don't really give a fuck

I dont mind having a V8 AMG Z.... then Nissan will have 2 Super car GTR and Z AMG.. so that aint gonna happen.
I dont want VQ to be as refinded... i liked the rawness.. that s what sports car should be....
The F22C in my s2k will scary you at high RPM if all you have driven in your life are J series

Not the sound the motor makes from the intake or exhaust but the sound the motor itself makes. Its rough. The VQ has been around a long time and needs to be put to pasture like the J series.

Alright, just got back last night after a 2500 mile trip to Nashville. I met with Nissan and their designers and marketing department who design the Z. And basically I asked them this question and they answered it will never happen period. They will continue to keep the Z to it's Roots like it always has and it will NEVER have a Mercedes engine, or a V8 for that matter.
Don't believe the blogs folks, as that is all they are blogs with dreams.

Nissan/Infiniti = by far my favorite Japanese car company, but I doubt even they would put a V8 in the Z. It would no doubt be an awesome car from an engineering standpoint, but I don't see it fitting into Nissan's priorities. They're struggling to keep the car affordable as is.
Gasoline/electric hybrid V6 I could definitely see happening. The one major falling down of the current VQ engines is the poor fuel economy...less than 15 mpg is not at all uncommon in the city if you're a leadfoot.

^ I sat in one recently and wasn't too impressed, a lot of hard plastics and not much high-quality feel.

It wasn't horrible but when you're looking at $48k for a 370Z convertible, it needs to be way better than it is ... Especially when people are looking at BMWs and Audis in that price range.

Agreed! People seem to forget pretty quickly how bad Nissan interior's were pre 2007. It was b/c of that, that kept me from getting one for several years, despite liking the rest of the car. Ever since 2007, the interior quality has improved dramatically to the point, they are class competitive with Hyundai and probably Ford. Toyota, in my opinion, has slipped below Nissan in interior quality. At least when I test drove a Altima, I didn't have console pieces come off in my hands like it did in a Malibu, Camry, and RAV-4 I test drove last year.
I've found with test drives that it typically goes with interior quality and fit/finish ON AVERAGE:
Honda > Hyundai/Nissan > Ford > Mazda/Subaru > Toyota/Chevy
Just my two cents

Punk Rocker
Honda does make great interiors but the newer stuff is really getting chaotic as far as buttons go and the new Acura's are afflicted with cheap-plastic-instead-of-real-aluminum-itis....
#993
Even the luxury companies are cheaping out. I've seen it personally and read a couple reviews of a few MBs being slapped on the wrist by the reviewers for some uncharacteristic cheap plastic pieces. Every year, more and more plastic works it way inside/outside these vehicles.
In regareds to Toyota quality slipping, I test drove two different trim levels of the Camry and RAV-4 last year when I was car shopping. In both Camry test drives and one Rav-4, plastic dash/console pieces broke off in my hand during the test drive and the salesman was so embarrassed. All four trims had rattles/noises up the wazoo and the materials just looked and felt cheap. There were panel gaps, and some lousy fit/finish.
Didn't have this with my Honda, Nissan, and Ford test drives.
But you have to take what I said with a grain of salt b/c everyone can have a different experience between the different manufacturers depending on what model or models they drive, the roads they drive on, etc.

2011 Stillen 370Z
Press release...
For over 25 years STILLEN has been recognized as a leader in Nissan/Infiniti tuning. With a history of setting "first time" milestones in the aftermarket for these great vehicles, STILLEN has established themselves as the company to follow when it comes to Nissan and Infiniti product development. STILLEN was the first company to develop the HICAS eliminator system for the 300ZX Z32 platform. When the Z33 350Z was introduced, STILLEN was once again the leader with the first forced induction solution, as well as the first to offer CARB legality, and AGAIN the first with a 3 year/36,000 mile engine warranty. Well, STILLEN has done it again as Team STILLEN is proud to announce the CARB approval of the Nissan 370Z (Z34) G37 Supercharger Kit.
STILLEN has not only been the first company to achieve CARB legality of a forced induction solution on the VQ37, we have also been the first company to achieve such an accomplishment while tuning through Nissan's sophisticated ECU with larger injectors. This is a major accomplishment for Team STILLEN and one that will join the many other first time landmarks STILLEN has achieved in the Nissan/Infiniti tuning world.
CARB (California Air Resources Board) is the division of the California state government that controls all aspects of air quality and standards. With standards getting stricter it is getting more and more difficult to achieve CARB legality. CARB is recognized as the toughest emissions control in the country and is therefore recognized in all 50 states as an emissions standard for all performance parts. If a performance part achieves CARB legality, it is recognized as 50-state legal.
The power the STILLEN Supercharger system delivers is dramatic, taking the factory 3.7L V6 from 332hp to over 500hp! System is designed to work with both automatic and 6-speed vehicles, including convertible and AWD models.
The STILLEN VQ37 Supercharger features a new cast aluminum intake manifold designed specifically for this system, complete air-to-water intercooler system, and boost is derived from a Vortech V-3 Supercharger unit. The V-3 features a quiet V-belt design, and a self-contained oiling system for easy maintenance.
In the past year STILLEN has shipped supercharger systems around the world. Fantastic reviews and reports are coming in from:
Australia
New Zealand
Singapore
Russia
Thailand
Korea
Canada
Switzerland
Taiwan
France
United Arab Emirates
China
Hong Kong
United Kingdom
Not to mention all of the kits that have been installed with great success across the United States at Nissan/Infiniti dealerships and performance shops. This is a bolt-on system, capable of being installed by any qualified ASE-certified automotive performance shop, or at hundreds of Nissan and Infiniti dealerships across the country, or right here at STILLEN at our in-house install facility.
Once again, STILLEN has successfully accomplished all of its goals with another great forced induction solution for the Nissan/Infiniti vehicles.
Features Include:
• Vortech V-3 Centrifugal Supercharger Unit
• STILLEN purpose designed cast aluminum intake manifold with long runners for increased torque
• Installs under the stock hood - No modifications needed
• Complete system includes pre-assembled Vortech V-3 supercharger assembly, air intake with polished air charge pipe and genuine K&N intake filters, fuel injectors, air-to-water intercooler, UpRev ECU Tuning cable/software and detailed installation instructions.
• Optional 3-year/36,000 mile powertrain warranty
• Made in the USA
• 50-State Emissions Legal (E.O. Number D-436-17)
