If budget allows in a couple of years, the M45 is likely my top choice.

i just looked at the infiniti website and you are right. They are low beam xenons with auto leveling. The refreshed M on the other hand has bixenons with auto leveling

The autoleveling on the current M (pre-refresh) levels it for weight/suspension changes (like if you have a lot of stuff in the trunk), I do not think it levels for road pitch though.

REPORT: Next Nissan Fuga to Debut in Tokyo, Foretells Infiniti M's Future
The JDM Nissan Fuga is due for a comprehensive overhaul, and according to a report by Japan's Holiday Auto, we can expect to see the redesigned sedan at this fall's Tokyo Motor Show.
The sketches above were inspired by a recent batch of spy shots and as expected, the Fuga – which serves as the basis for the Infiniti M in the States – will undergo a thorough exterior makeover, taking cues from the Essence concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show. The headlamps will continue to be stretched further over the fenders, while the taillights and bumper will be more smoothly integrated into the bulbous rump. We're hoping the most interesting element of the Essence – the curved, creased and indented C-pillar – will make a successful transition from concept to production. Expect the Fuga to go on sale in Japan early next year, with the fully-redesigned Infiniti M to debut soon thereafter.

The M hasn't been the success Infiniti/Nissan was hoping for (some of it may have to do w/ the so-so styling).
Also, the predicted resale value on 2009 Ms aren't that great.
The G is what's keeping Infiniti a viable brand (I would have also maybe included the FX if Infiniti hadn't gone ahead and ruined its looks).

^ GS has done pretty well. Not the blistering sales leader Lexus had hoped, but it moved. The RL...that was epic failure.

Year to date (since the end of May), Infiniti has sold 4,268 units of the M
Compare that w/ 18,050 for the 5 Series
and 9,920 for the E Class (down due to debut of new E Class).
Yeah, sales of the GS has tanked to 3,102 units thus far since the end of May, but Lexus hasn't been pushing big incentives on its vehicles (last year at this time, the GS was outselling the M).
Due to lackluster sales of the M, Infiniti has pushed the launch of the next gen M up a year to 2010.

The M's biggest problem is the less than attractive C-pillar (the G has the better C-pillar) and the somewhat overly-funky taillights.
The front fascia is pretty good, tho.
Now that the TL has move upscale some, I would actually put the TL first if it weren't for that darn beak up front (the TL's rear isn't that great either), but it does have nice lines on the side.

Infiniti Plans To "Reveal" Next-Generation M Sedan at Pebble Beach Event
Date posted: 07-22-2009
CYPRESS, California — Inside Line has learned that Infiniti is set to preview its next-generation 2010 M Series sedan on August 14 at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance — although the actual car won't be there.
Kyle Bazemore, Infiniti senior manager of product communications, told IL that the preview will be a virtual debut using a new concept (to the automotive world) called "virtual video mapping." A rendering of the vehicle will be projected onto a clay model, giving people a firsthand, to-scale preview of the car. Enthusiasts won't get to see a live shot of the production-spec vehicle until December.
"The car will look like it is actually there. It will be full-size, and, if you didn't know it was a virtual mapping, you would think it was the real thing from a distance. It gives consumers a preview of the vehicle in advance of its December debut, before any actual vehicles have been built," said Bazemore. "It's a really good-looking car, and we're excited to get it out there."
Consumers will be able to watch a live Webcast of the preview via Infiniti's Web site, so stay tuned for a direct link as the event nears.
The 2010 Infiniti M Series sedan will roll onto dealer lots next spring.

I actually like that. My car sends out a mildewy smell when the A/C is on. It's worse in the summer time.

Infiniti teases 2011 M ahead of 3D Pebble debut
On Friday, August 14th at 9:30 PM EST, Infiniti will take the virtual wraps off the next generation M at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and if you can't make the trip out to California to see the new sedan in all its 3D glory, Infiniti will be broadcasting the reveal live on its Future Vehicles site.
Typical of recent Infiniti teasers, the sketch above doesn't divulge much, but we expect a more swooping, organic design compared to the current M, taking cues from the recently reshaped G and FX series, along with a few elements cribbed from Infiniti Design Director Shiro Nakamura's most recent masterwork, the Infiniti Essence concept.
We'll be on hand to provide live images of Infiniti's innovative "virtual M" reveal next week, and you can get a reminder about the streamed unveiling by signing up here.
