Yeah, like I said in TLX thread.

I would rather want Acura to copy other designs to make ly looking cars instead of building their so very original vanilla Beak mobiles.

I think it's interesting how the Honda/Acura and Hyundai threads have the most replies in them...

Actually, the Genesis' headlights share more with Subaru's new headlights and one can say the same for the headlights on the Q50 and a no. of others.

As for the Bentley badge - having a winged automotive badge is hardly unique.

Aston Martin
Chrysler
Mini
Austin-Healey
Carrozzeria Touring (an Italian coachbuilder)

And oh, even the boys over at Club Lexus (the more rationale ones) stated that the rear of the GS looked too much like the rear of the Sonata.

One can clearly see the resemblance btwn the Sonata and Genesis (which, frankly, I don't think is a good thing).

Sonata was released as 2010 in Korea, and 2011 in the U.S. I was disappointed to see 13 Lexus GS and Q50 rear end with no originality.

Looks like the embargo is over ... Lots of Genesis (DH platform) reviews from a media day in Arizona have hit the web.

$52k for a loaded (Ultimate package) 3.8 with AWD. This is still a value play over competitors like the Lexus GS/Audi A6/BMW 5er but it's not the same car the BH platform was ...

Better looking (IMO) than, better value (IMO) than, and now just as safe as or safer (with optional equipment) than the RLX.

Congrats!

2015 Hyundai Genesis earns Top Safety Pick+

IIHS News | May 7, 2014

ARLINGTON, Va. — The redesigned Hyundai Genesis, a large luxury car, earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, thanks to a good rating in the challenging small overlap front crash test and a superior rating for front crash prevention.

The 2015 Genesis also earns good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint evaluations.

In the small overlap test, the driver's space was maintained well, and injury measures recorded on the driver dummy indicated low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. The dummy's head made good contact with the front airbag, which stayed in position during the crash, and the side curtain airbag deployed to protect the head from contact with side structures.

The Institute added the small overlap evaluation to its testing lineup in 2012. In the crash, 25 percent of a vehicle's front end on the driver side strikes a 5-foot-tall rigid barrier at 40 mph. It replicates what happens when the front corner of a vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object like a tree or a utility pole.

The optional front crash prevention system, which is being offered for the first time on the 2015 model, earns a superior rating because of its automatic braking capabilities. In track tests, the car stopped completely before hitting the target in tests at 12 mph and 25 mph.

The Genesis is one of only three large luxury cars to earn the Institute's highest award for 2014. To qualify for Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must earn a good or acceptable rating for small overlap protection, a good rating in the Institute's other four tests, and a basic, advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.

Test drove a 3.8 AWD Tech today. I must say the car is really nice. Inside everything feels well made and nice. I didn't get a very long test drive - but I got to take it around some curves and it handled pretty well too. The 3.8 motor felt fast enough even though I'm sure the 5.0 V8 would have been better.

Overall I'm pretty impressed. Not sure what I'm going to buy as my next car - but I think the Genesis will be on the short list!

Congrats!
Not normally phased by IIHIS safety tests, but damn that car held up well. Virtually no damage past the A pillar. Wow.

Agree. I had my doubts about it with the spy shots, but now with the full reveal, I think it's even more uninspired than the first gen, which itself was already an amalgamation of design cues from different makers; this one looks worse.

I just saw one in person. It's got a lot of road presence. It's a big car but it's designed and assembled to project a much higher level of quality than the first generation.

If I was looking for a sedan, I'd definitely go drive one.

I just saw one this AM as well. It took a min for me to figure out what it was. Definitely has a lot of road presence (something that Acura is lacking). Very Very nice looking car. The rear 1/4 window makes the car appear larger/longer than it is. Great job Hyundai

I saw one last night. I've seen many of them through Korean TV shows and really liked them then, and in person, it's even better. I might go test drive one and consider it for replacing my TL.

One thing I can't stand about the new 2015 Genesis at least in USDM form is that the DRL is not the LED strip in the front of the car. Most commercials and videos show the car as if the LED strip is the DRLs, but they are actually considered the parking lights on the USDM version. The DRLs are defeatable in the USDM model and are the highbeams like they are on many older cars. You could drive around with your parking lights on all the time and then the LED strips would illuminate and your tail lights too. Don't know why Hyundai decided to do this.

Canadians get the DRLs as LEDs, a V8 AWD model (I don't think Canadians can get RWD at all) and they also get Ibiza Blue with a Black interior (it only comes with a beige interior in USDM).

Not exactly a reason not to buy a Genesis, just an annoyance.

At this point I think I've narrowed down my car search to a 2014 Honda Accord Touring (cost conscious choice, best gas mileage), 2015 TLX SH-AWD Advance (good gas mileage, still don't like the bucktooth, need to test drive it), 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 AWD Ultimate (worst gas mileage, most space, most features - but "worst badge") and 2014 GS350 AWD F-Sport (so-so gas mileage, was the most fun to drive so far, has the "best badge", most expensive, smallest interior space)

I don't care about the badge but my wife isn't a fan of Hyundai.

Almost thinking I should just get the Accord Touring and spend some money on some mods

I haven't seen one on the road yet, but sat in one(base V6 model) back in Feb at the Canadian International Autoshow. The interior is simply the best in its price range. (43k CAD)

I think the 3.8 with luxury pkg is $50k before tax. The tech pkg is $55k.

Am I missing something, or is he comparing to the RLX? I don't see that in his post.

With that said, the interior dimensions seem to be close. No comment on styling since it's subjective. Pricing is closely matched on both cars with the Genesis having a less equipped trim (Luxury vs base, tech vs tech, ultimate vs elite).

The Genesis have a RWD chassis, can pull more g's, and two more cogs. But the RLX is slightly faster, can stop sooner, and have better EPA ratings.

You forgot 1 important piece

You have the options to get a big RWD V8 with 420HP that will make the car feel 5x faster than RLX (i said "Feel")

On RLX you have the option to get some battery packs. and the battery packs are on Back order right now.

Oh I didn't forget lol.

Like you said, those battery packs are still on back order, so no point bringing up the V8
