Haven't seen a TLX in the flesh so hard to say but I'd venture a guess that its not in the same ballpark as the Gen. Just like the RLX isn't in the discussion. The Gen is striking. Don't think either Acura is. All IMO of course.

Test drove it. Really cool car, the tech was amazing, however some things didnt work great. The empty convoy video will only work if the lines on the road are very clear, not safe otherwise. Car was smooth, the air conditioning seats were awesome.

Post 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Press release...

Hyundai’s popular Genesis Coupe continues to enhance its appeal in the fiercely-competitive sport coupe segment. For 2015, Genesis Coupe makes its 348-horspower, 3.8-liter direct-injected V6 standard, with new base 3.8-liter V6 manual and automatic transmission models added to its line-up. The high-performance V6 engine in every Genesis Coupe ensures its buyer maximum powertrain performance at a very affordable price point. This critical enhancement ensures Genesis Coupe continues to carry its recognized market success as a rear-drive, high-output performance sport coupe for everyday enthusiasts.

2015 Genesis Highlights

348-horsepower, direct-injected 3.8-liter V6 engine standard
New base 3.8L V6 manual and automatic transmission models added
4-cylinder powertrain no longer available
3.8 Grand Touring model no longer available
LED daytime running lights standard
3.8 R-Spec model adds the following standard equipment:

Proximity key with push-button start
Automatic climate control
AGGRESSIVE DESIGN TO MATCH DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE

The Genesis Coupe strikes a menacing demeanor, with an aggressively designed front fascia, grille, headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights and hood with heat extractor cues. The side view reveals aggressive 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs with deep dimensional sculpting. Finally, the rear taillights provide a visual spark via premium LED illumination. Traditional rear-drive sport coupe proportions are clearly evident, with a long wheelbase and short front and rear overhangs producing a classic wedge-like profile. Genesis Coupe’s bodyside character line is an innovative “Z”-shaped design that integrates seamlessly with a unique, drop-beltline rear window graphic. Heated outside mirrors, fog lights, and LED daytime running lights are standard on all Genesis Coupes.

Genesis Coupe’s arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile and emphasize the car’s broad shoulders and wide stance. To complete the aggressive sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse is maximized. Large openings in the front fascia allow for optimal engine breathing coupled with an aggressive look. Dual asymmetrical exhaust tips integrated with the blackout rear diffuser treatment complete the performance message from the rear.

POWERTRAIN

For 2015, the high-performance 3.8-liter, direct-injected V6 engine is standard in all Genesis Coupes. This proven powerplant offers sophisticated engine technologies, with direct-injection and dual continuously variable valve timing.

The 3.8-liter Lambda DOHC V6 engine produces 348 peak horsepower at 6,400 RPM, with peak torque of 295 lb.-ft. at 5,100 RPM on premium fuel. In addition, Lambda-engine anti-knock technology gives this V6 the versatility to run on regular fuel whenever required. This direct-injected engine will easily propel the Genesis Coupe from zero to 60 mph in the lower five-second range on its way to an impressive 149-mph electronically-limited top speed. The Lambda V6 intake system also employs an intake sound induction pipe into the cabin to ensure this engine’s aural character matches its visceral appeal.

To further broaden the power band, the 3.8-liter engine uses Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (Dual CVVT) and a Variable Intake System (VIS) that helps cylinders breathe most efficiently at both low and high RPM. The combination of high-pressure, precisely-metered direct injection with efficient cylinder breathing results in outstanding throttle response and off-the-line acceleration coupled with remarkable fuel efficiency. The V6 engine uses an alloy block and cylinder heads for lighter weight and thermal efficiency and features durable, quiet timing chains with no scheduled maintenance.

All these technologies serve to give Genesis Coupe 3.8 an impressive power-to-weight ratio of only 10.1:1, significantly lower than the more expensive Infiniti Q60 and BMW 435i.

The V6 engine also features deep, baritone-sounding dual cat-back exhaust to complement efficient breathing on the intake side. To ensure that all this power is evenly distributed to the pavement, Genesis Coupe also offers an available Torsen® limited-slip differential on R-Spec and Ultimate models.

TRANSMISSIONS

The automatic transmission has 8-speeds, with standard paddle-shifters for SHIFTRONIC® manual-shifting capability. In addition, the 8-speed automatic precisely rev-matches engine RPM to the exact selected-gear speed, for smooth downshifts into corners and superb dynamic balance, while an easy-to-read LCD readout on the instrument panel shows the selected gear at all times for the driver. In addition to the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, the automatic offers shift capability via the shift lever according to individual driver preference.

The V6 engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission that features carbon synchronizer rings for smooth shift action and synchronizer durability. Each transmission has been specifically tuned to match the engine’s power and torque curve characteristics.

REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE ARCHITECTURE

Genesis Coupe’s body shell makes generous use of advanced high-strength steel. The rear-wheel drive powertrain configuration provides a well-balanced 56:44 front-to-rear weight distribution.

SPORT-TUNED SUSPENSION

No well-tuned sport coupe chassis should give the perception of being overwhelmed by its powertrain, and Genesis Coupe is no exception to this rule. Spring, damper, and bushing ratings all have been precisely calibrated to match these powertrains with superb road feel, precise body motion control and good ride comfort.

Genesis Coupe employs a MacPherson strut dual-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension setup. The front suspension is mounted to the body via a solid subframe that is lighter and stronger than a comparable multi-piece component would be. To help reduce body roll and tune the Genesis Coupe’s at-the-limit handling for maximum predictability, 23mm diameter front and 19mm diameter rear stabilizer bars are fitted.

2015 Genesis Coupe MacPherson strut dual-link front suspension

While all Genesis Coupe models offer a true rear-drive sport coupe driving experience, the high-performance Genesis Coupe R-Spec and Ultimate models raise the bar even higher with a differentiated, track-tuned suspension. The R-Spec/Ultimate suspension features both firmer front spring rates (seven percent) and rear spring rates (11 percent), with matched damper rates. The Genesis Coupe R-Spec/Ultimate models also deliver a significant increase in roll control over other versions of the Genesis Coupe via thicker stabilizer bars (24mm front/20mm rear). Genesis Coupes also use low-velocity-control dampers for refined ride comfort coupled with excellent body control.

In addition, all R-Spec and Ultimate models receive front strut camber adjustment bolts that can be installed in the front strut assembly at their owner’s discretion. These camber adjustment bolts allow approximately -1.5 degrees of negative front camber adjustment for sharper, more responsive apex turn-in and reduction of understeer. Of course, superb Genesis Coupe structural rigidity sets the fundamental foundation for dynamic precision, regardless of specific suspension calibration.

STEERING

Hydraulic, RPM-sensing rack-and-pinion steering has been calibrated with a quick, 13.8:1 ratio, delivering both linear feel and agile response to driver inputs. This steering ratio yields intuitive steering response and precision. To further optimize driver ergonomics, tilt and telescopic adjustment is standard.

HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKING SYSTEMS

Brembo® four-piston calipers clamp down on fade-resistant 13.4-inch ventilated front brake rotors and 13-inch ventilated rear rotors on both R-Spec and Ultimate models. All other models get substantial 12.6-inch front ventilated rotors and 12.4-inch rotors in the rear with floating single-piston calipers.

UPSCALE INTERIOR

The Genesis Coupe interior offers distinctive, upscale features and design cues. The leather steering wheel uses a premium grade of leather. The instrument panel crash pad features a stitched-seam appearance for a distinctly upscale look, and the parking brake lever is leather-wrapped on leather-equipped models. The instrument cluster features an electroluminescent gauge cluster for premium ambience and superior readability. A driver-side rear seat walk-in assist function provides convenient rear seat access from the driver’s side. Convenient seatbelt assist guides make it easy for front passengers to buckle up. Cruise control and floor mats are standard on all Genesis Coupes. A center stack multi-gauge cluster with instantaneous mpg, torque level, and oil temperature is standard on all trims. A center fascia tray with cover provides extra storage, and interior surfaces have a soft touch with low sheen for an up-market feel. Sport front seats with deep side bolsters offer superb lateral support for enthusiastic driving in all trim configurations. R-Spec seat bolsters are even deeper for extra support during spirited driving. Every Genesis Coupe comes equipped with standard proximity key with push-button start, auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink®, and automatic temperature control.

Among other premium features are an available Infinity® premium audio system and two-stage front seat heaters.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Genesis Coupe offers Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights for brighter illumination intensity, more daylight-like lighting character and reduced power consumption. In addition, the visual cut lines of these HID headlights are razor sharp, providing maximum nighttime visibility to the driver without the risk of blinding oncoming traffic.

Music lovers will welcome the Genesis Coupe’s standard auxiliary input jacks (3.5 mm mini-jack and USB input) to accommodate and charge personal audio devices such as an iPod®. When an iPod or flash drive is connected through the USB port in the center storage compartment, not only does it play music through the vehicle’s audio system, but it also charges the iPod and allows the driver to access tracks with the steering wheel audio controls. This system also allows both driver and passengers to easily view song/artist/title information and control the music from the audio head unit rather than the iPod unit. This safety-oriented function helps the driver to keep his or her focus on the road at all times.

SEGMENT-LEADING STANDARD SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES

In keeping with Hyundai’s focus on offering segment-leading standard safety technologies across its lineup, Genesis Coupe includes a wide range of both active and passive safety features. Standard safety technology includes driver and front passenger advanced frontal airbags, along with front seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.

Genesis Coupe has strong unibody construction, along with front and rear crumple zones, bodyside reinforcements and five-mph energy-absorbing bumpers. The hood also includes buckling creases and safety stops.

All Genesis Coupe models feature standard four-channel ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to optimize brake performance under various dynamic loading conditions. The system also includes Brake Assist, which provides maximum ABS-level braking force when a panic stop is detected.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC), one of the industry’s most effective life-saving technologies, is standard in all Genesis Coupe models. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) studies suggest vehicles equipped with ESC experience 56 percent fewer fatalities in single-vehicle crashes than those without it.

In a nod to enthusiasts, Genesis Coupe offers a specially-tuned three-stage driver-selectable ESC mode. This new three-stage ESC function offers more options for various driver preferences and road conditions:

Full-on ESC function (default mode on start-up)
Intermediate ESC function with driver powertrain override control and retained ESC/TCS braking function
Full-off ESC function for uninhibited driver vehicle control in all conditions
The driver-selectable full-off ESC mode has been calibrated to provide drivers with a larger performance envelope should they choose to participate in competitive events such as autocrosses or track days. The Genesis Coupe anti-lock braking system function (ABS) remains fully functional in all ESC modes to help drivers maintain steering control under adverse braking conditions.

CONNECTED CARE AND HYUNDAI BLUE LINK®

2015 Genesis Coupe Ultimate models offer the Hyundai Blue Link® safety, service and infotainment telematics system. Blue Link brings seamless connectivity directly into the car with technology like remote start, destination search powered by Google®, remote door lock/unlock and stolen vehicle recovery. In addition to these features and services, Genesis Coupe models equipped with Blue Link come standard with one year of complimentary Blue Link Connected Care. Can't wait to see what they do with the next generation!

The sedan looks much, much sexier than the previous gen, so hopefully the coupe will follow the same direction.

It would be awesome if the next gen Gen coupe kept some styling cues from the HND-9

Hyundai Vision G Coupe Concept

Hyundai Press Release

Hyundai Premieres "Vision G" Coupe Concept at LACMA

Introduces Concept as Evolution of Hyundai's 'Responsible and Respectful' Luxury Family of Products

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. Aug. 11, 2015 – Hyundai Motor America revealed the "Vision G" Concept Coupe to a select group of media at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The concept was described as Hyundai's inspiration for its family of future premium products that promise luxury, performance and style with the value and responsibility that is the foundation of Hyundai's brand.

"The concept was designed with coordinated input from Hyundai design studios around the world, but was led by our team here in the U.S.," said Peter Schreyer, Hyundai's president and chief design officer. "The design is our interpretation of the idea that Hyundai breathes into all of its vehicles – a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don't need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues."

During the design process, Hyundai's team of designers centered their work on the notion of "chivalry" – a word they felt best defined the idea that one doesn't need to shout to be noticed and respected. "Vision G" is purposefully understated, despite its size and dramatic lines. One example of this respectful luxury – and a nod to the self-sufficiency of the driver – is a technology that automatically opens the door as if being opened by a valet.

The exterior styling of the concept is highlighted by a long hood, high-beltline and a cabin that presents a slingshot-like appearance. "In keeping with a design that speaks to the owner rather than 'the spectators' who might see the car on the road, Vision G appears dynamic and in constant motion," said Christopher Chapman, head of Hyundai's U.S. design center and leader of the coupe's design team. "After all – and if all is right in the world – the only time an owner sees the exterior of the car is when it's standing still."

The underlying idea of respectful luxury flows into the interior, underscored by its clarity and simplicity. No glaring examples of luxury, but rather elegant lines and finishes.

The heart of "Vision G" is the award-winning 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine producing 420 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 383 lb. ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm. The Tau V8 engine family has been named to Ward's prestigious Ten Best Engines list three times. With high-pressure direct injection for impressive power, low emissions and superb efficiency, this latest version of the Tau V8 benefits from an optimized intake runner length, enhanced timing chain for reduced friction and NVH, low-torque exhaust manifold, increased compression ratio and upgraded multiple-injection mapping. These enhancements combine to produce a flatter torque curve at lower rpm for even better driveability.

"Vision G" will next be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, August 16 in Monterey, Calif.

I think it looks gangster.

And comparing a Hyundai to a Bentley is seriously saying something.

I kinda like it. I think it would look in black.

It's got a very upscale look to it. Definitely has road presence.

The Vision G looks more like it would be a 2 door Equus sibling

I like it though.

I agree. The Genesis line is definitely moving towards something signature all its own (For a while, it felt like a knock off of different brands). It certainly does not look like a "Hyundai".

Hyundai Genesis Coupe discontinued

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe was the Korean automaker’s attempt at a true driver’s car, back when it wasn’t quite on the roll it is in 2016. Now the coupe is dead -- no thanks to you guys; sales were what we in the business call "tepid" -- but it will hopefully come back in spirit as part of the new Genesis G lineup, or as part of the company’s N series of high-performance cars.

The death was confirmed by The Globe and Mail last week, along with a roundup of other outgoing rides like the Cadillac ELR and the Dodge Dart/Chrysler 200 twins.

A Hyundai spokesman told the Globe about the axing, but also brought hope, saying there are plans for a coupe to be part of a six-model Genesis lineup by 2021.

We had high hopes for the good-looking and well-proportioned Genesis coupe when it debuted in 2008. It offered the choice of either an I4 or a V6, as well as manual and automatic transmissions. The 348-hp R-Spec, in fact, only came with a row-your-own setup. It became better as it grew up, and the last one we drove in 2013 garnered genuinely good reviews. Still, many of those were in comparison to the previous model, which was in desperate need of re-engineering right from the starting line, and the car was perpetually overshadowed by the Mustang and Camaro V6.In our instrumented testing of the R-Spec, we clocked a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds and did the quarter-mile sprint in 14.57.

There’s no reason Hyundai shouldn’t be able to bring back the coupe stronger, faster and better than before. The current Genesis sedan is great, even with the V6, and we have the new G90 (formerly Equus) on order for a long-term tester later this year. The company also has a new turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 on the way, which could be a perfect fit for a new Genesis Coupe.

Good move!

The Coupe and the Sedan while share the Genesis name, are nothing alike inside and out. The Coupe was never good enough to carry the name Genesis.

Just make the Vision G coupe concept the next Genesis coupe. This would definitely sell.

I love it. Way better design language than anything that Acura puts out these days... I'd buy one of these in a heart beat.

Would prefer a production version of the HND-9 rather than something like the Vision G - but one thing is pretty certain that the new Genesis coupe will be more of a GT (so will be on the larger side with room in rear for passengers).

Remains to be seen if the coupe will get distinct design language from the G70 sedan or if it will more like a 2-door version (wouldn't mind a 2-door version of the New York concept).

Genesis G80 3.3T Sport

https://www.netcarshow.com/hyundai/2...80_3.3t_sport/

Genesis introduced the all-new 2018 Genesis G80 3.3T Sport trim, which will be on display at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The G80 3.3T Sport builds on the refined performance of the popular Genesis G80 and adds a powerful new 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine plus unique sport performance upgrades delivering improved driving dynamics and sport agility. In addition, distinctive styling elements and features visually differentiate the new 3.3T Sport from the rest of the enhanced Genesis G80 model line-up. The 2018 Genesis G80 is scheduled to arrive in the Spring of 2017.

"The G80 3.3T Sport reflects our continual commitment to provide drivers with compelling vehicles that meet their individual needs," said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. "By extending the G80 model line-up beyond the 3.8 and 5.0-liter engines, the 3.3T Sport expands G80's range of pure performance capability and competitiveness within the mid-luxury sedan segment."

The G80 Sport is powered by a 3.3-liter direct-injected, twin-turbocharged V6 engine boasting 365 horsepower, and is paired with a sport-tuned version of the same eight-speed automatic transmission equipped on both the 3.8 and 5.0 models. New shift-by-wire technology is standard on the Sport. In addition, the G80 3.3T Sport features an upgraded suspension system with continuous damping control to provide superior vehicle dynamics and ride compliance. An augmented rear brake set-up with ventilated rear discs brings the Sport to a halt to complete this confident and exhilarating driving performance package.

Exclusive sport exterior enhancements and Genesis signature copper-colored styling elements visually distinguish the 3.3T Sport from the other G80 trims and purvey its performance credentials. The G80 Sport features a bold, cross-hatch design dark chrome grille, sport rocker moldings and unique lower front and rear fascia designs for an aggressive sport appearance. Large 19-inch dark alloy wheels plus additional dark satin trim details accent the vehicle's exterior design. The sport details continue inside the cabin where the driver is presented with sport pedals and a thick, sport-designed steering wheel. Generously bolstered sport seats with contrast stitching embrace the driver, and are offered in either black or gray leather. A rich, black microfiber suede headliner and genuine carbon fiber interior trim finish the cabin's interior environment.

Two exclusive colors are available on the G80 3.3T Sport, Polar Ice and Sevilla Red, in addition to Casablanca White, Caspian Black and Himalayan Gray.

Once again, Hyundai has hit a home run... and absolutely obliterated Acura on all fronts.

You know... that crappy car company that makes those horrendous cars... yeah, that one... it's spanking Acura. Big time.

Definitely sportier looking than the already handsome regular G80. Love the quad exhaust and rims.

I'm interested to know how much this weighs. Since it's based on the bigger G90, its weight has always been a concern. The current G80 3.8L V6 AWD is at 4500lb. That's noticeably heavier than the 535i x drive or E400 4 matic. This really hinders its performance.
1/4 mile:
G80 3.8: 15s@96mph
E400 4matic: 13.6s@104mph
535i x drive: 13.9s@100mph (and I believe the new G10 5 series is both lighter and again more powerful)

Hopefully the 3.3T can improve massively. Otherwise, the above shows a huge performance gap. In fact, those G80 figures are closer to E300 4matic and 528i x drive.

I think originally Hyundai intended this to be a luxo-barge vs a sports car. But now that they are moving away from that they need to do some serious revisions to the platform and lose about 500-700 pounds. I drove the 3.8 awd premium as a rental multiple times and was really impressed with it in many ways. The fit and finish is almost perfect (certainly as nice, if not nicer than an RLX). But the handling screamed lux vs sport.

Would love some seat time with the 5.0 and 3.3T...boy have times changed.
