Like I said, it's a combination of different design elements that seems to be well received on this forum. Perhaps it also helps since this car is not from an established make with a high price tag. Expectations are different as a result. For instance, if this car is a Lexus with a $100k price tag, then people might start questioning about its familiar design cues. The strategy seems to be quite simple here. Make the exterior look like a proper European luxury sedan, make sure everything matches/exceed the competitors on paper, and make sure the price is relatively affordable.

NEWS Release - World Premiere of All-New Genesis Sedan

This is a Korean News release...

More information at this link

Nov. 26, 2013 – Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest automaker, today unveiled for the first time the `All-New Genesis,' aimed at setting a new standard for premium sedans. Hyundai Motor revealed the much-awaited four-door sedan at a gala ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul, Korea, which was attended by over 1,000 media members and VIPs, including Korean Prime Minister Chung Hongwon.

The all-new Genesis received a record 3,500 orders on the first day pre-orders in Korea began last week, underscoring the excitement surrounding Hyundai Motor's multi-award winning model. Hyundai targets to sell 62,000 units globally next year, 32,000 units in Korea and 30,000 units overseas.

"The all-new Genesis is a concentration of Hyundai Motor's most advanced technologies, reborn through relentless performance tests and thorough quality management. The all-new Genesis will compete head-on with top-tier premium models in the global market including Europe, home to many such premium brands, to enhance Hyundai's brand values and gain leadership in the industry," said Mong-Koo Chung, Chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, during his welcoming remarks. "Hyundai Motor has made great strides over the past half-century through constant innovation. We will continue to satisfy customers with even better quality vehicles."

Hyundai Motor's all-new Genesis is a premium sedan conceived and engineered to rival its peers in the category, dominated by European brands. The all-new Genesis is the result of over four years of development and an investment of approximately 500 billion Won (KRW). Following its launch in Korea, the all-new Genesis will be introduced in major markets next year.

The all-new Genesis features an overall length of 4,990mm, overall width of 1,890mm and overall height of 1,480mm. In particular, its wheelbase was extended 75mm to 3,010mm compared to its predecessor, boasting best-in-class cabin space.

Fully reflecting Hyundai's 'Modern Premium' brand direction, the exterior and interior design of the all-new Genesis embodies Hyundai's latest corporate aesthetic. All-new Genesis delivers improved strength and performance, increased passenger comfort and a wide range of cutting-edge safety and convenience technologies, striving to set a new standard of premium for its class.

The distinctive, refined and luxurious all-new Genesis has been styled with a sleek premium look. Following its introduction in 2009, Hyundai's design philosophy of 'Fluidic Sculpture' has been developed further -- all-new Genesis is the first model to showcase Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. This concept boasts a core central theme: simple and harmonious design with refined fluidic elements. The design features the modern Hyundai look, with a striking hexagonal front grille and a dynamic character line running along the flanks of the car, and a sporty rear end design.

Incorporating new first-in-class technologies has been a key goal in the development of the all-new Genesis. The model includes several world- and Hyundai-firsts for a car in its sector, demonstrating Hyundai's technological expertise and positioning the brand as a credible producer of premium vehicles. Among these advances are the new CO₂ cabin sensor control, and safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).

Active safety is boosted by a Blind Spot Detection system with integrated Head-Up Display, working in conjunction with a Lane Departure Warning System and radar-controlled Advanced Smart Cruise Control.

The debut of the new HTRAC All-Wheel-Drive system and new multi-link rear suspension is one of the biggest differences between the original Genesis and all-new Genesis. Providing traction and stability, the HTRAC system was tested through extensive sub-zero and hot weather programs on road and track. Further enhancements to all four V6 and V8 gasoline engines available with the all-new Genesis offer increased driving performance.

Original Genesis was the first premium rear-wheel-drive high-tech sedan from Hyundai Motor. Designed to compete directly with premium European rivals, it introduced the Hyundai brand to a new class of customers in the domestic and foreign markets.

Critically acclaimed, the original Genesis model was introduced in 2008 and sold around 250,000 units globally over a six-year period, playing an important role in the rapid evolution of the Hyundai brand by entering the premium sedan sector.

In 2009, the original Genesis was the first Korean car to receive the coveted North American Car of the Year award. Following that accolade, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded the original Genesis its Top Safety Pick. Also, it was the highest-ranked model in the mid-size premium car category in the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS).

The all-new Genesis, like its predecessor, will be aimed primarily at consumers in the Korean, North American, Middle East and Chinese markets. In addition, the all-new Genesis will enter the European markets and Russia for the first time.

Targeting existing Genesis owners and new mid-luxury customers, the all-new Genesis recognizes a general shift away from customers choosing highly-priced, brand-oriented vehicles. The all-new Genesis is aimed at those desiring high-tech products that improve their own personal sense of value, while emphasizing distinctive style and dynamic driving performance.

They had one in an annex off the lobby of the resort we stayed at over the holidays and I got to sit in it for the first time. Initial impression was: Wow, this is a Hyundai??? Ergonomics are very nice and the interior fit and finish looked pretty stellar. Stye-wise, this puppy puts the RLX to shame and I can't wait to take one with a V8 for a spin before they are outlawed by regulators.

^ the sad thing is, the RLX, even with "just" a V6, could've been a great car, just like the Legend was. But those days at Acura are long gone.

If you go into the model-specific forums, it still is.

Then those same people saying Hyundai is inferior to Acura will complain and sneer at people who choose a BMW, MB or Lexus over an Acura.

^^ I bet the door hinges are an exposed crappy design as well.

...and let's not get started about the navigation screen and climate vent location.

I'll bet you have to get rid of the all-season tires in order to get a 0-60 under 8 seconds as well.

[QUOTE=jnc2000;14777287]Haven't seen these posted in here yet... I'm loving these color combos. Very interested to see what features make it to the to our shores...

The charcoal color really makes the grill (which isn't all that bad) look 10x better. Hyundai knocked it out of the park with this one. My girlfriends mom got a 4.6L Genesis for Christmas and the interior was already rather good but this is a total upgrade. I'm in love with the leather in her car so I can only imagine how good one of these will be.

Seriously, all Acura has to do for the RLX to make it a success is copy the styling of its competitors and then lower the MSRP by $20k. It's not rocket science really...

The TL and the TSX are still better IMHO, but if this new TLX is another RLX or ILX, it's bad news.

And you know this how? Have you driven or been in the Gen2 Genesis? Have you ridden or driven the Gen 1? or the Equus? Personally i find the fit and finish and quality of the Gen 1 better than the TL/TSX. My dad has 160k miles on his Genesis and it is still as solid as the day he bought it and hasnt had a single issue.

Just wait till they come out with a SUV/CUV to compete with the competition ie.. MDX/RDX game over

Not sure yet as all I have seen are pictures of the exterior and interior. Based on the pictures, I think it's a better looking car than any sedan from Acura for sure. I'd like to check it out in person to see how it looks like up close and what the interior is like. I'm also more interested in how it drives and ride.

Trust me, the interior is fantastico. Experiencing the stacked dual screen interface in our new MDX has been a let down. LET THERE BE BUTTONS!

I too would love to take one for a spin, but am somewhat disappointed they didn't address some weight loss. They hired LOTUS to address steering/handling dynamics so that is a hopeful sign.

I'm hoping to participate in one of those test drive events. I've been to the ones from Acura, VW, BMW, Mazda. It would be nice to test drive the new Genesis.

People used to complain about the sea of buttons in Acura cars. I'm guessing that's why they are going with dual screens. I'm fine with both stacked screens or buttons.

The previous genesis wasn't that heavy though. It's good that this time they are focusing on the handling. That's been a bit of an issue IMO.

I like the 1st gen sedan, and this one looks very very nice as well. Looking at some used ones, they can be had for relatively cheap and very low miles as well. 2012 Rspec with 12000km 33k. Seems like a really good deal to me

I liked the 1st generation, but not to the point where I wanted to go out and get one for my family. It just looked a little too roundy everywhere for me. Wished Hyundai would make it sharper overall.

They have delivered.

Hyundai Genesis Pricing Announced

Hyundai Genesis Pricing Press Release

ALL-NEW 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS DELIVERS GENEROUS PREMIUM CONTENT FOR AN OUTSTANDING VALUE POSITION

Well-equipped Starting Price under $40,000 includes Impressive Safety and Technology Features

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 1, 2014 – During a gathering of top automotive and business media at the national drive event for the 2015 Genesis, Hyundai announced a compelling pricing package for the all-new premium sedan. Hitting showroom floors later this month, Genesis starts at $38,000 for the well-equipped 3.8L V6 and $51,500 for the 5.0L V8 model. The combination of bold design, superb driving dynamics, unmatched standard technology and attractive pricing positions Genesis as the premium sedan to beat.

"The all-new Genesis rivals the best premium sedans in the world, at a price point many thousands of dollars less," said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. "Our 2015 Genesis represents a bold step forward for Hyundai and reinforces the successful strategy of marketing our premium models under the Hyundai brand umbrella, rather than a costly separate luxury brand sales channel. As a result, we're able to pass the benefits of this strategy directly to our valued customers."

2015 GENESIS PRICE STRUCTURE

Model / Engine / Transmission / MSRP
  • 3.8L RWD / 3.8L V6 / 8-Speed A/T w/ SHIFTRONIC® / $38,000
  • 3.8L AWD / 3.8L V6 / 8-Speed A/T w/ SHIFTRONIC® / $40,500
  • 5.0L RWD / 5.0L V8 / 8-Speed A/T w/ SHIFTRONIC® / $51,500
