It only makes sense for Azera as well. Current Azera price fits way too close to Genesis.
I'd like to see the new model uncloaked but if the price jumps too much I will be slumming it in a 2013 RSpec very soon.

I like the 300, Genny, and the Charger. Just not the fuel bill lol.

I heard the R-Spec returns decent mileage if driven sensibly, but who buys these cars to be sensible all the time.

lol if you drive like those test drivers at car and driver, then you are looking at getting 15-16 mpg in both the R-spec and the 470hp 300 SRT8. If 470hp is too much, there's the 300C with like 360hp and its performance would still be similar to the R-spec, while delivering 17 mpg(assuming you drive like a test driver. On a long term road test, the 300C is averaging 20mpg. The R-spec is probably around there too I'd imagine? I guess that's not too bad considering we are talking about ~400hp 4000lb+ cars here......

Well, the G, at least before the 7-speed auto and the newer update came along, had been known for being a gas guzzler.

For the record its quite hard to drive the entire tank as if you stole it... even though the Genesis dumps fuel at the hint of WOT I have yet to have an entire tankful net me less than 18mpg. On your general highway/backroad + city + sprinted driving I see results around 20-22. The gearing, and DI help quite a bit.

...Also of note when the Tau switches to the more aggressive cam profile around 3500rpms. Between idle and 3500 it's only using one of the HPFP's. It's not until the switchover the second HPFP kicks in and you really feel the surge of power.

Yeah I missed the memo, my 7AT sucks in the city. Highway though I get anywhere between 26-28 mpg.

I think Infiniti/Nissan should seriously consider some sort of VCM. Look at the Accord V6, people are getting 35+mpg on the highway in it....

Sometimes I just wish that auto makers can come up with a knob that can switch between the two extreme engine modes : performance and economy.

In the performance mode, maximum engine power is generated with absolutely no consideration for fuel economy.

In the economy mode, using a V8 as an example, only one cylinder bank is activated running a mild engine fuel management mapping, for maximum fuel economy at minimum output hp.

First mode reminds me of the 400hp/500hp switch in the E60 M5.

Second mode is pretty much user controlled version of VCM.

I think the above can be done with a VCM system.

I don't think their luxury cars are as reliable as lexus / acura yet, but they have a great warrantee program to support their imperfections. They have a great loyalty program that guarantees resale pricing for original owner. The rub comes when we want to buy used and warrantees have expired. For me, I own acura / honda vehicles for reliability. I also own a Honda snowblower and outboard motor for the same reason. I don't need to worry about them needing to go into the shop for big $$ repairs.

Id have to say to them not being as reliable. We arent talking early 90s Hyundai cars here. My dad has over 120k on his 2010 genesis. The only thing he has done to it has been tires and oil changes. Only one small trip to the dealer for a diode for the brake lights. There isnt a creek or rattle and is as solid as new. People need to stop living in the fantasy world that only honda/lexus buuild reliable cars. Its been far more reliable with less issues in 120k than my 2g acura tl was with that many miles (and im not talking about the trans issues either)

Reliability isn't much of an issue any more for Hyundai and Kia. It's the fine tuning that still takes a bit of work. In general, their cars have most, if not all of the essential ingredients. For instance, for their luxury cars, they have V8, RWD, and all the fancy features. But they just don't feel like real luxury cars. They also seem to exaggerate their engine output (i.e. Genesis V8 R-spec being as fast as the LS460 despite having the same weight but with 40 more hp). Obviously fine tuning is a big part and that's what separates wannabes from the elites. In return, however, you get to save a big chunk of money.

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...NEWS/130629866

Thanks to an Autoweek reader, spy shots of the next Hyundai Genesis sedan found their way into our inbox this morning. The big four door was heavily camouflaged at rainy O'Hare Airport, but we can definitely see the winged Genesis logo on the wheels and the interior is Hyundai all the way.

The front end looks blockier than the outgoing model, similar to the HCD-14 concept we saw at the Detroit auto show. The headlights have projectors with surrounding LEDs and the rear looks more squared off as well. The redesigned taillights are new, and the panoramic sunroof continues on the next model.

We expect engine choices to stay the same on the new Genesis, which a means a 5.0-liter 429-hp V8 and a 333-hp V6. An eight-speed was standard on the last model, and we'd expect that to continue as well.

Glad the interior is more restrained than the new corporate Hyundai pinched center console and wrap-around theme.

I always said, the way they came out of the gates with the Gen 1 car and how well it was built, they were only going to improve it in their attempts to take more away from the Germans and Lexus and everyone should be scared.

My dad has over 130k on his 10 genesis now and still as solid and tight as the day he bought it. 8k mile oil changes and tires are all he has put into it (finally had brakes put on at 125k)

My initial reaction to that front end is not positive. I'm hoping it looks better IRL and in other pictures.

I think they might be better off continuing to copy other manufacturers if their native design house is coming out with this.

I like it. I think more angles and pics need to come out though. Just like the C7. I still havent seen a pic of the back that made it look good, but in person it does.
