"Our challenge is to make sure it doesn't become the next VW Phaeton," Krafcik notes. Keeping the price under $60,000 seems to be a key to achieving that goal.
Not sure price alone will do the trick - but the product seems to be there.

I agree. They have more obstacles then that. Seems to me the magic number is $40k. This will be well north of that and is going to be difficult to sell at $50k+ car at a Hyundai dealership next to a $9500 Accent. The dealership experience is completely inadequate.

A lot of people can afford a $35k Genesis. It's not to much of a stretch to try and sell one at a Hyundai dealership. But at $50-60k you are really starting to sell a more exclusive product to a smaller group of potential customers who are used to (and expect) a full service support experience.

^ and there's nothing official in that article - how could it be when the car is still one year away from the showrooms.

The Equus is a hot piece of ass. However, I have to agree with those saying the Hyundai dealer experience needs a TON of polishing in order to sell a $50k+ car of such caliber. A friend of mine is looking for a new car and was torn between the Hyundai Accent and the Nissan Versa.

The local Hyundai dealer is still stuck in the 1970s; sleazy salesmen, sleazy tactics, and basically harassing you until you buy. When she told them repeatedly that she just came to drive and check out the car, they basically kicked her out. She said she liked the Accent enough to buy one but the dealer experience was such a turn-off she chose the Versa instead.

I still think she should write HMMA a letter telling them this.

Getting off my soapbox now. Please pardon the hijack.

There's no way it would pass modern pedestrian safety regualtions so don't count on seeing it here.

I like this car, I'd like to see it in person...

other than status purpose, i don't see korean people buying this car for that expensive.. current currency conversion is around 80~90k USD
definitely not the S class, 7 Series, LS quality...

Obviously, Hyundai Equus is doing a very fine job. Its apparent to me that the new upcoming sedan of Infinity M copied the interior layout of Equus,

feels like the new hyundai is becoming what the old acura was.

an all around affordable car that gives out more than the consumer ever dreamed of with a price tag that trumps the competition.

im looking forward to see where they go

That front bumper is a little much, and so is the hood ornament. What about that interior though... wow. Sexy.

all fine and dandy. i could see this selling well in the BRIC nations, esp. as the small cost of hiring a chauffer would be appropriate for a 50k car. but in no way would an executive figure in a 1st world country opt to spend as little as 50k on this. unless its sometype of middle-management wannabe that has his kid drive him around town as he gets a massages in the backseat. haha, that would be a sight.

Way too much chrome on that overdone front bumper. And the hood ornament...lol. Interior is nice, but the speedo area looks a bit bland. I think they will have a hard time selling this in a Hyundai dealership. I don't see many people looking to spend $50k on a vehicle going to Hyundai. Sure there will be some, but I don't think very many.

Jaguar has lots of chrome and I dont hear people complain about it. And about hood ornament, RR has them too. Is it oky for RR to have them, and not for Equus?

Your being too overly critical and biased. There are much more excellent features than bad ones, and your only pointing out negative things about this car.

Once agian, your only talking about few bad features of this car while not even mentioning countless excellent features about this car...

Stop being biased, you love your TSX too much, as your name suggests...

your TSX is nothing more than Honda accord with different body...I can say this cause my previous car was TSX and i sold it after learning about this fact....

I never went into any features of the car. I was only commenting on the looks. I gave my OPINION, to which I am entitled. And for the record, I don't like hood ornaments on ANY car. Just because I like my car doesn't mean I can't like any other car, for God's sake. You sold your car just because it's an Accord somewhere else? LOL. You really are a tool. And a biased one at that. Grow up.

You didn't even notice that I said the interior looks nice. You are too biased to even notice and jump down people's throats for making any kind of criticism. You should try taking a look at yourself for once.

i'm sure hyundai is not expecting to sell that many units of the most expensive car in their lineup..

people said the same thing about genesis before it came out... 40k hyundai??? no way!!!!
but i see it quite often and people are saying good things about it

it's kinda crazy to think they put that pricetag on equus... even fully equipped v6 genesis in korea costs more than that lol (no v8 available in korea for some gay reason)

Saw a test mule today in Michigan. I can confirm that the hood ornament is gone and it also has some nicer looking wheels. Vs4600 was on the back so I'm guessing it had a 4.6 in it. Exhaust note is damn near silent.

Looks a lot smaller in person. I only got a pic of the rear. Guess it will be in the states

Damn, that's crazy. I've never seen any test mules around before, though I guess they'd want nothing to do with Bay Area traffic. Maybe Pure Adrenaline was driving it!

Wait.... what are you doing in Michigan anyway
