This one looks much better and more practical than the rush-to-market-to-beat-Prius Honda Insight.

Honda Slashes Hybrid Cost in 1/2
The Civic Hybrid hasn’t been the runaway success that Honda might have hoped, in part because it doesn’t have that instant recognizability as a hybrid that the Toyota Prius does. The next hybrid from Honda will be a dedicated model, and according to executive vice president Koichi Kondo, the hybrid unit inside it will cost about half as much to make as the current Civic system.
Savings come from a simplified architecture, lower weight and a smaller overall size, reports the Nikkei. The hybrid system, or Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), is already being developed for the new car, which is itself on target for release in early 2009 according to Honda.
A entry-level five-passenger five-door positioned between the Fit/Jazz and Civic in terms of size, the new car will be price around ¥2 million ($18,800). Styling is tipped to resemble the FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, which will give the car the instant recognizability it lacks in Civic form. The car’s low price and unique styling are hoped to help push Honda toward its goal of 400,000 annual hybrid sales by 2012, with up to half that burden riding on its shoulders.

2011 CR-Z: 21st Century CRX
Honda's Upcoming Two-Seater is Designed to Prove Hybrids Can be Fun
By Paul Horrell
Honda's CRZ hybrid coupe remains on track as a 2011 model, on sale in late 2010. Honda wants sports-car enthusiasts to buy it not because it's green, but because it's fun. The carmaker considered doing a non-hybrid version of the CRZ, but it desperately wants to be seen as a hybrid supplier on par with Toyota and believes it needs a range of dedicated hybrid-only models to achieve that.
So the CRZ gets a lively 140-horse, 1.8-liter Civic-derived engine. The IMA system -- motor, battery, electronics -- will be like the Insight's, as will the platform, to save cost. A senior engineer says, "It must be fun to drive, must remind you of the original CRX." And a manual gearbox will be offered. "CVT is fine for the market, mostly. But we are Honda! We must have a manual!"
As a two-seater, the CRZ's smaller body mass versus the Insight should make up for the weight of the bigger engine, brakes, and tires. So a 2800-pound total, with lots of electric-assist torque and a revvy gasoline engine, should make it the real deal as a pocket performance coupe.
Honda has trimmed back its sports cars. President Takeo Fukui said the company has canceled the Acura NSX replacement, though engineers say it may simply be deferred. And the rear-drive Acura range has been canceled. Honda is out of Formula 1. So the CRZ must be to Honda in the 2010s what the CRX was to Honda in the 1980s.
The other leg of Honda's small-car hybrid tripod, the Fit hybrid, also is going ahead for a '10 release. To give the Insight a lower overall height than the Fit, for reduced aero drag at highway speeds, the fuel tank was moved from under the front seats in the Fit to under the rear seats in the Insight. Speeds in the EPA test aren't high enough to make aerodynamics a factor, so the Fit hybrid may match the Insight's fuel economy label, and offer more space and versatility, for less money. It will interesting to see how the marketing guys handle that one.

Yeah, I saw this article about 2 days ago and I was like
. I'm tired of playing this guessing game with Acura. For those that really want RWD, it may be best to move to another brand. Acura might go the "Japanese Audi" route, but they need to clean up their designs if they want to do that successfully. As of now, I don't know what they are going to do, if the RWD products have truly been cancelled.

Ouch.. with the NSX and S2k gone, honda is hoping that a 2 seater hybrid is going to be their sportscar ![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
At least the CRZ is going to have a manual transmission option. Up until this point, it was just the CVT that was mentioned...
Since it's based on the insight platform, it's going to be FWD. I had hoped that it might be based on the s2k platform![Sad](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif)
I'm sure this will sell well, but it's kinda hard to believe that honda/acura sportiest car is going to be a hybrid...

2800lbs? god, my old 91' accord weighed in at 2800 and had 145hp. This will have 140hp? not an improvement. Back in the day, my accord would always ride right along side a crx back when" The Fast and Furious stuff" was happening for real. So effectively were getting a bloated CRX that will most likely do just a bit faster than my old accord since this will probably have more torque with the electric motor.
-----------
Also what will this really look like...right now it's completely unrealistic. The lights will be of the normal variety, the front bumper will probably change quite a bit and it's hardly worth mentioning that the interior wont be like the pictures. Anyone want to photoshop what it will probably look like? I'm also thinking it wont come out of the showroom rolling on dubs. I completely dont mean to seem so negative, I know were effectively looking at a concept, but my anger comes from knowing it just cant be as good as the original, not to mention, how do you mod a hybrid?

Yeah but your old accord didn't get 40 mpg. This one does, or something close to that, whatever the final EPA numbers will be.
I'm very excited about this car.

^^^^^^it got close 40mpg at high speeds, I know that doesn't make sense but it did.
This car excites me too, but I would like a non-hybrid version. I'm a tree hugger, but I dont believe in hybrids, I thinks it's a load of crap, but that's a whole different subject.

2011 Honda CR-ZX
From: http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/06...ersion-of.html
![](http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/hottmike/2cnzfqh.jpg)
The bad news for Honda fans is that the NSX's V10 successor has been canned while a replacement for the S2000 roadster that will end production this year is nowhere in sight (aside from magazine centerfolds, that is). The good news is that the CR-X will return, though in a somewhat different form tailored to meet the needs of today's 'eco-frenzy' world. In other words, the CR-X's successor will be a dedicated hybrid model - something in the likes of the Insight.
In its most recent issue, Japan's Best Car magazine features an artist's impression of the production version of the CR-Z concept car, which is mentioned as the CR-ZX. Not surpassingly, the cosmetic changes suggested are limited compared to the prototype model.
The report supports that the so-called CR-ZX will be powered by a tweaked version of the Insight's mild-hybrid drivetrain combining either a 1.3-liter or a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a more powerful electric motor. We remind you that the Insight is equipped with 1.3-liter gasoline four-pot and a 13HP electric motor generating a combined output of 98HP.
We must note that reports from this side of the Atlantic are suggesting that the CR-ZX will mate a more lively 1.8-liter engine to the electric motor. Could be that both sides are right as Honda may develop different versions for Japan and the US / Europe.
The magazine mentions that the CR-ZX will be making its production debut at this October's Tokyo motorshow with the first examples of the compact coupe arriving at domestic dealerships early next year. In a recent statement, Honda said that the CR-ZX will be available in most markets by the end of 2010.
And I searched and didn't find the appropriate thread

2007 Honda CR-Z concept car
Fans of the original CRX will soon have a new Honda compact sports car to lust over
Honda’s recent financial troubles may have claimed the NSX-replacement and the automaker’s F1 efforts but it won’t stop plans to launch a new hybrid sports car next year based on the 2007 CR-Z concept car. The new model is currently being designed and engineered in Europe, its expected key market, and a debut at this October’s Tokyo Motor Show has been suggested by recent reports.
Designed as a spiritual successor to the original Honda CRX, the production version of the CR-Z is expected to be powered by a compact four-cylinder engine displacing less than 1.5L and matched to an electric motor. The combined output for the car should be close to 140hp (105kW), with drive sent to the front wheels via a CVT, according to AutoWeek.nl.
Other reports from U.S. sources indicate that Honda may go with a 1.8L engine. It turns out that both assumptions could be right giving the U.S. market a higher torque engine to suit its needs while equipping Japanese and European models with a more efficient engine.
The original CR-Z concept was described as a next-generation lightweight sports car equipped with a Honda petrol-electric hybrid system. It featured an oversized grill and aggressive wedge shape, plus a centrally mounted muffler, a rear glass hatch and LED headlights.

Its cool...but the Scirroco just kicks all other sporty new hatches asses.

It looks pretty cool. I really hope its like the CRX. That car was immensely fun to drive.

Looks pretty cool though I don't know about the lines on the roof. It seems like everything doesn't line up for some reason, or its not very sleek looking. Everything else looks futuristic though. I like the spacy interior.

Hopefully this is a sign of some better design work from honda. Although it is a concept so im sure before production begins they will throw some kind of an Acura styled front end on it.
