The formula has been in place for a long time - 3 MYs with FMC and 2 MYs with MMC - so unless Honda feels compeled to change that the FMC won't arrive till '10 as an MY 11.

It's always a 5 year cycle... They may have done a MMC a year early once a one of the models, but I can't remember it for sure... It usually follows the formula you posted... Except for the NSX and S2k...

Based upon automotive sales, it seems they can't make enough of the Civics to meet consumer demand (currently). Now that oil is slowly approaching $100 (not $200 as earlier projected), maybe the hysteria will stop and Civic supply will stabilize.

I think the 'facelift' is in line with typical Honda design. Small, modest changes so it won't affect resale value of the current gen models (and it won't significantly affect retooling costs at the plants or parts supply). All about the bottomline, ladies and gentlemen ...

BTW, the design change won't make me go out to the dealership and buy a Civic ... so I will also

i'm not trying to piss in Honda's parade since they pay my bills. but why did they do a face lift. when next model year (2010) is a model overhaul. since 2009s are hitting the dealer lots now.
just this should have been done IMHO 2008 at the latest.

Did you read the posts above your's? The overhaul comes in 2011.

You guys can all you want. Honda is laughing all the way to the bank (and to the top of the sales charts) with this Civic. Why would they drastically change a winning formula?

Officially Official: Honda unveils updated 2009 Civic

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/19/o...ed-2009-civic/

Pics located at link listed above.

Just last weekend we brought you some leaked scans revealing the new face of the 2009 Civic, and today Honda makes it official by revealing all the changes made to its popular small car. As we've already learned, exterior changes include a new front bumper cover that reshapes the bottom curve of the grille and features three prominently placed, more traditional looking air intakes in place of the single large opening on 2008 and prior models. Honda also claimed it messed around with the color combinations of the headlights and taillights, but damned if we could tell. There's also new alloy wheels for the EX, EX-L and Si models, and the latter pocket rocket gets standard fog lamps, as well. The only other exterior change is a new piece of chrome that's been placed above the rear license plate holder. Finally, Honda has added two new trim levels: the LX-S that comes with alloy wheels and sporty trim and DX Value Package that gets standard AC and an unspecified audio system.

2009 Civics will also offer Bluetooth for the first time on models equipped with navigation systems, and the EX, EX-L, Hybrid and Si get a new USB port to plug in digital audio players. Honda has also chosen to make stability control, or what it calls Vehicle Stability Assist, standard on these models only.

We've got Honda's full press release after the jump if you think we're making all this up, and high-res galleries of the new '09 Civic LX-S and Civic Hybrid below.

That's what it should've looked like from the beginning. That one slot air dam wasn't right from the very start.

Refreshed Coupe Pics

Following on the heels of the unveiling of the 2009 Civic sedan, the wraps have come off the two-door version. As expected, the coupe shares the subtle design upgrades with its four-door counterpart and promises to continue offering Civic buyers a sporty alternative.

For 2009, the Civic coupe will be offered in DX, LX, EX, EX-L and Si trim levels.

Up front, the 2009 Civic coupe features a new bumper, along with newly designed air inlets – three separate inlets replace last year’s large single inlet. A revised grille rounds out the changes for the front of the 2009 Civic.

Out back, the Civic’s taillights have received a freshening.

The base model will feature a 140 horsepower 1.8L four-cylinder that is rated at 36 mpg highway. Honda has yet to release an mechanical details for the hotter Si model, but all should be revealed in the coming months

Honda Civic 5D Mugen Concept Revealed

Japanese tuning company, Mugen Motorsports, has waved its wand over a European specific model for the first time in the Honda Civic 5-door hatchback. Revealed at the Moscow Motor Show with cosmetic modifications only in the form of a body kit closely resembling the previously released Honda Civic Mugen RR from last year, this concept is a sign that Mugen is testing the waters of the old continent. Surely, with the Honda name gaining popularity across Europe, hoards of Honda tuners will be lined up to tap into the European market, and who better to test the waters first than the one with familiar ties to Honda Motor Company.

I've always been jealous that Europe always gets the nicer versions of our cars, but..... I've changed my mind!

I've never liked that Euro CTR. Torsion bar rear on a Civic FTL!!!

First Drive: 2008 Honda Civic Mugen RR

Honda's Own Skyline GT-R

By John Barker, Contributor
Date posted: 09-08-2008

Our first sight of the rarest and probably most desirable Honda Civic on the planet is a flash of blood-red paint and a glint of black wheel spokes a couple of hundred yards away, parked in a roadside turn-off in the middle of England. Even at this range, we know it's the real thing, and up close the 2008 Honda Civic Mugen RR is even more striking.

Read more and pics at http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.*

no where near GTR but encouraging at the end it says, "Mugen establishes the RR as a Honda-powered answer to the Nissan Skyline GT-R."

true, but even still, the Civic SI Sedan even looks great. I wouldn't mind having that as a daily driver any day of the week and save a nicer car for the weekends.

In its defense, it does give the driver S2k-like performance and handling while adding some utility.

I also like the Mugen RR but not at its likely $35k+ pricetag. Not to mention all the STIs and Evos that will be 'kicking sand' into the RRs face...so to speak.

Honda dealer markups are :ghey: I remember when the integra Type-R first hit the scene and was being sold for $10K over MSRP.

Fifth gear did a comparison between the Mugen RR and an S2000 and the RR, on the same track, with the same driver, on the same day beat the S2000 by a fairly substantial margin.

I like the Civic Si....but paying north of 30k for a Civic is a waste...IMHO.

While it's an awesome car for what it is, the price tag isn't remotely justifiable IMHO.

For 30K, I'd rather buy a G8.

But then again, I prefer cars that are sporty and handle great, opposed to having a car that has tons of power and handles so-so.

I prefer the S2000 because you can't drop the top on a Mugen Civic

Its not all about lap times

Best Motoring also did a 5-lap battle with the Mugen RR, Modulo Civic Type R, normal Civic Type R, S2000, and S2000 Type S on Tsukuba and all 3 Civics were running circles around the S2k. No comparison at all.

lol...guys..forget about the price tag..it won't be sold here...and it shouldn't be 30k either...a normal CTR in Japan is far cheaper than USD$30k.

It's a bit weird to see this "different" Civic Si around here - that disguised rear door handle really makes it look like a coupe.

The Mugen Civic sells here for $30k and the RR is a much more substantial car than the Mugen. If it came stateside, it would be highly unlikely to price @ or < the Mugen.

lol what I meant to say is that Honda should not charge that much for a mugen civic si when the CTR in Japan costs much cheaper than 30k.
