wow... he just said what a bunch of us are thinking. Not many people realize that a prius is causing more damage to the environment than the suburban its cockblocking on the highway by staying slow in the left lane...

The Audi prez is just jealous....or just wants to push diesel. He's right about the $40k price, though. There's a tax credit for buying one, so the actual OTD price is not $40k.

Personally I've never been all that much of a fan of the Volt (or hybrids for that matter) but he has some good points. Nonetheless, I think it will sell. It looks pretty damn good for a hybrid, and no doubt there'll be quite a few people out there who want the newest, coolest hybrid.

I still think that especially for some of the upper class citizens, hybrids are simply a status symbol to drive on the weekdays so they don't feel so bad about driving their S65 or Lamborghini on the weekends.

I still would take a diesel over a hybrid anyday. Yeah, its bad that the manufacturing process of the battery is harmful to the environment and all, but its more about the driving experience itself. Starting up a Prius and driving it feels almost unnatural. Its a nice car for the price but completely soulless.

so the money you save in gas is pretty much going towards the purchase of the car. 40k?

yup.

also, the cost premium negates the savings in gas - only to leave you with the inconvenience of having an electric car. the only justification i see in purchase is to have zero emissions. and how many environmentalists could afford a 40k car? i wouldnt be surprised if most sales are for social figures in need of an image, i.e. celebs. fine by me - they are heavily taxed and will be contributing to the federal prop up of the the program. just a recycling of idiocracy.
