Looks great. The only thing I don't like about the car is that the part of the nose with the kidney grille juts too far forward. It doesn't look that great viewed from the side. It's probably due to pedestrian crash regulations.

Wow, am I the only person on here who thinks that BMW ruined the 5 series (look-wise of course). It looks like the 3 series sedan and the 7 series, which in my opinion are deeply unattractive. In my opinion, BMW ruined the 7 back in 2002, then the X5 in 2006 and now the 5. At least we still have the 3-series coupe.

I'm in love. I'm just in love. The design has a strong resemblance to the 7 which I hate in itself. Somehow, I really like the way the 5 is designed, it all flows together. I'm strongly hoping the M5 comes out in a year or so.

^I'm pretty sure pricing will start around 80-85k range before options, probably 105-110 fully equipped basing myself on previous M5s.

Yeah, just imagine how it's going to look with an aggressive bumper and side sills.

Well, doesn't take a lot of imagination actually, it'll look like the current M3 but bigger.

which is a good thing, imo.

the current M3 sedan, though it's an awesome looking car, looks chunky to me.

Looks like it should handle quite well, probably better than E60, and the adaptive suspension would be nice.

The biggest draw: 6MT. Can't get it with other cars in its class.

^ tho given the high AT uptake even in Europe, the days of an MT 5 series might be numbered.

I'm kinda with you on this...just like the new 7 series design, this new design is and it looks too much like the 3 series sedan. While the 3 sedan's design is decent (but boring), I think it carries the design better than the larger F10. I'm probably in the minority that thinks the E60 looks more distinctive and attractive than this one. Gimmie an e60 545/550/M5 manual...

Now, the 5er...?

Dude, the 5er was ruined with the E60/E61 if you ask me. But, that's just my opinion.

This upcoming one is leaps and bounds better-looking...again, just my opinion.

i like it. It does look like a stretched out 3, but a smaller 7. I'm not a fan of the 7. Interior is where i...sigh. I don't think it compares to the GS, M, or A6. it seems that it simply never changes.

i learned a new smilie today:

i can certainly appreciate BMW's interior. it's not aesthetically appealing to me, but i do like the quality and simplicity. it's just that the "cockpit" designs of the acuras and even infinitis are what appeal to me more.

^The first thing I thought of when I looked at that picture was "which one doesn't belong?". There's a nice evolution until the 5th one. Thankfully it gets back on track with #6.

And some people seem to bemoan that it looks like the 3 and the new 7...that's why it looks good!

I just don't like it. Especially from the front. The kidney grilles have gotten so big and from the side it reminds me of an elephant seal. THe back looks good but the front, side and interior are not very impressive IMO....

I agree about the other car makers, although this is probably the most exciting BMW cockpit so far. If you look around there's a good variety of materials and if you look closely the center console is even back to its driver-oriented style. But too bad they stuck with the horizontal slab style, I think it would be nicer if there was a swooping line from the center console down the center tunnel.

Agreed.

I think that lower fascia just needs something added to it to make it more aggressive. Its my only complaint.

BMW M5 F10 Speculation

From Worldcarfans: http://www.worldcarfans.com/10912162...ion-bmw-m5-f10

The folks over at M5Board.com and TeamSpeed.com have sent in these renderings of the upcoming BMW M5. Shown in the drawings is a mid-size four-door that many would be pleased to drive.

While we like the conceptual drawings very much, we do not think the next M5 will have such a race-ready look. Expect the front air intakes to be a bit less prominent, and the side sills to be less aggressive. After all, this is a car meant to appeal to executives, and will likely have a more conservative appearance than the drawings depict.

The upcoming BMW M5 is expected to get a 500+ horsepower turbocharged engine that produces almost 500 ft-lb of torque. BMW already uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo on V8 that generates 555 hp and 501 ft-lb on the BMW X5/X6 M. This may be a suitable and more efficient replacement for the previously used V10. A new transmission will be paired to the engine. It will likely be similar to the seven-speed dual-clutch unit seen on the M5 25th anniversary car.

Aside from active aerodynamics, look for the car to get a carbon fiber roof, taller gearing, and LED daytime lights. The next BMW M5 is expected to debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Wow, BMW did the Toyota AT move and jumped from 6AT to 8AT.

Looks nice, the heradlights are cleaner styling over the previous gen.

Awesome car but why does it have to get bigger and heavier with every redesign?? I think it's just getting too big.

Anyone else think the same?

I read somewhere that BMW will not be bringing the new 5 series wagon to the States anymore. Since Mercedes is not doing that for the C or E class either, Audi is the only German sportwagon option left for us here in the States.... isn't that a real shame?

That's because only 800 5 Series wagons were sold in the US in 2009. No reason to bring them over when people barely buy them.
