I'm sad. Not because they canceled the NSX, but because of the direction Acura is going. The RDX sucks. The TSX looks pretty good, but would look better with the MDX grill and the RDX's engine. The TL looks like a hippo. The RL refresh looks like ass. The only Acura I like is the MDX, but it needs to come standard with running boards, otherwise it looks really cheap and like somethings missing. The NSX was headed in a sucky direction. Maybe it's good they cut it. I don't understand how they can spend so much in R&D and change directions so many times and then cut it completely. Sounds stupid, but what do I know.

I think the simple answer is that Acura does not have a defined direction.
Until they find a direction in terms of design and powertrain...it's gonna be a whole-lotta hit and miss.

i do not know what to say,i think honda have lost it balls, it's technological innovation, it's sense of what it was and where they are going, it's "we can do it first and better attitude".

for the past 10yrs i think the only enovation from honda is the SH-AWD.

you can count the number of fails;
1) no advance vtec, 2)no DI, 3)no RDW 4)no V8, 5) cancelled deisel engines,6) cancelled nxs, this car was 80% complete, i think they know it will sock anyway, 7)no longer a clear leader when it comes to less feul consumption, look at ford, 8)their turbo engine in the rdx socks,it can't be used in any other car, look at BMW.

just my 2 cents

Problem is this has always been the problem since they got rid of cars with names, which makes no sense for an automotive brand and they should know better than that by now considering their failings in the past.

Define a direction..ANY direction, and then go balls-to-the-wall in that direction. If they want to pursue performance, then offer cars that display that performance, not decent performing FWD derived sedans and SUVs that compromise one way or another. If they want to pursue, luxury, then offer cars that exude luxury like lexus has. If they want to pursue value, then they should be badging everything "Honda". Instead, they're trying to be safe and pursue a little bit of everything, and as we all know, a little bit of everything with value thrown in is going to make a lot of compromises. If someone is paying $40k to $50k and up for a "premium" car, there's only so much compromise a potential buyer will take before going to a brand that offers less compromise. Ironically, for a premium brand, especially for one trying to be a tier-1 brand, the "safe" route is not safe at all as the current RL has proven, and they seem to not have learned this yet.

I think their idea of being "unsafe" is to craft ugly ass beaks on their cars and call it something cheezy like "power plenum". Almost as bad as sticking a 'vtec' sticker on a car to make it look faster.

Question Not Cancelled

The Show Ain't Over Till Honda Says So: Coming to Detroit?

Posted: December 30th, 2008

It was recently reported by AutoExpress that Honda has shelved plans to build the Acura/Honda NSX supercar. Honda made no comment on the report that said Honda pulled the plug on the 600-hp supercar due to the economic slowdown.

Well, Autotelegraaf is now saying that Honda will bring the final NSX concept to the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month. The report says that the concept will be very close to the final production version which will make its debut at the end of 2009 in Tokyo and 2010 in Europe.

The news comes a couple days after Toyota announced that it will still bring the Lexus LF-A to the market by 2011 despite the current economic situation.

Maybe Honda is really clairvoyant and sees a recovery right when this car will debut. I mean it foresaw that diesel will be 50% more than gas and postponed the diesel TSX.

Well then, we've waited so long that it seems nothing to wait for another month to check out what shape that NSX concept is in, provided that Honda doesn't change it's mind again.

I thought they weren't debuting anything new (not already shown somewhere) at Detroit.

It's obvious that these days no automotive announcement is to be trusted.

The prototype must have been sitting around somewhere in the US and they decided - what the heck, show it off.

Like I said, maybe Honda knows something - I mean look at the unemployment report.

UPDATE: One of the TOV's Dutch readers has now chimed in after reading the AutoTeleGraaf and says that what the AutoTeleGraaf article REALLY says is that Acura WAS planning on showing the NSX Concept in Detroit, but since the NSX development was cancelled, they will no longer be showing the Concept. Maybe somebody from Acura can clear this up once and for all. This is why we only gave the rumor a "1" on the credibility score. We would have given it a "0" but we don't have that in our system (maybe we should add it).

Not surprising to see no NSX ... I think many things become lost in translation.

I don't want to ask my friend who is from the Netherlands to translate for me -- she's not into cars.

We've been waiting for an NSX replacement since 2006... Seems to me that the Acura product planning department is being run by monkeys... Anyone of us here could probably do a better job

Big effing

The only bright spot was the V10 engine. Everything else I was dreading to see the light of day.

Check this video out...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO3lSPsAaY0

Seems like it's a video from Best Motoring. The "new NSX" was caught testing in Suzuka, not just in Nurburgring. I have been watching every single Best Motoring episode but I have yet to see this part yet. I think it's the 2009 February episode (I'm only up to 2009 Jan). Check out the date when this video was uploaded to youtube...January 1st, 2009....interesting.....

they are still going to release it. It's development is DONE for all intents and purposes. The only thing left are tweaks and tooling for manufacturing. They've sunk way too much into this car. It's not like it won't sell either.

ya, Best Motoring has been very consistent with the 600ps output (about 591hp). I have lost all hope about the NSX coming out 2 weeks ago when I read what Fukui said, but now, it seems like there's a chance it might come out after all.

I was reading one of the threads on the vtec forum from a guy named saudi@honda.fan. He claims the car to be shown at the NAIAS is a sub Nsx powered by a V-8. I'm not saying I believe the guy but I was disapointed that that was gonna be the NSX replacement when I saw it.

im gonna get a hernia laughing so hard from the people saying "i figured it was still on" and "i figured it was cancelled" only 2 or 3 posts away from each other after hearing news updates.

Frankly I dont give a shit anymore until I see something with wheels, an engine, and a pricetag.

not that I'll be buying one anytime ever, but it will be nice to see something decent looking (though terribly underwhelming) coming out of the rundown acura stable.

It's because the Honda Rose Parade robot was well under budget and exceeded Honda President Fukui-san's expectations...

Better yet, the motor disguised in the float itself was powered by a V8. You just don't know...
