Commentary from Leftlanenews...
Honda has been spied testing another prototype, this time its the 2009 Acura TL. Like the Pilot spotted earlier today, the TL is wearing heavy disguise. However, the overall design style of the car is believed to follow that of Acura’s Advanced Sedan Concept which was first shown at the 2006 LA Auto Show. Not much else is known about the new TL.

Well, I do know the GF and soon-to-be fiancee really likes and wants an SUV. My preference is the FX45...but, who knows. If I can have it my way, I'd be clear of SUVs and hopefully be in a sedan/car for my next vehicle.

Acura’s Future: We want to rival Bentley and Maybach
Posted on: August 20th, 2007
While Hyundai targets BMW and Mercedes, Acura takes it up a notch with Bentley and Maybach in its sight. This is Honda’s luxury division Acura, who just opened a new design center in California in May, hoping to distance itself from Honda.
“We want to rival Bentley and Maybach in performance and design,” said Dave Marek, chief designer for Honda R&D Americas, in an interview with Automotive News.
But while Acura dreams of playing in the big leauge, the truth is that since there is no V8 or rear-wheel drive car in its lineup, Acura will remain a second-tier luxury brand.
The entire list of Acura’s future lineup :
Acura TSX: The small Acura sedan will get a redesign for the 2009 model year. Acura is also planning the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is in the RDX crossover.
Acura TL: A redesign is in the works for the 2009 model year. Finally, Acura will offer all-wheel drive with a new 3.5-liter V6 engine that develops close to 300 horsepower. A V6 diesel may be available for the 2010 model year for Europe.
Acura RL: The new redesign continues to disappointed Acura and its dealers. Consumers are refusing to pay premium price for a V6-powered vehicle. The RL will get a total redesign for the 2011 model year. There has been no word on whether it will get a V8 but some sources say it may get a V10.
Acura NSX: No date has been given for the next-generation NXS but sources says it could be in the 2010 or 2011 model year. Acura sources say the company hasn’t decided whether the next NSX will be powered by a V10 or if it will be a mid-engine, rwd car or a front-engine awd vehicle.
Acura RDX: Acura’s new small SUV went on sale as a 2007 model. No major changes are scheduled.
Acura MDX: The mid-sized crossover was just redesigned for the 2007 model year. No major changes are planned in but a V6 diesel will be available for the 2010 or 2011 model year.

Gosh Honda/Acura setting their standards too high eh?
They need to be a bit more realistic like they need to catch up to Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, and Mercedes first.

Even more embarrassing?
The TSX is one of the few things Acura has done right.

Well, gee...at least they didn't say Ferrari or Zonda...?

Three Wheelin'
I have trouble believing that someone within Acura would say that. Maybe they are targeting Bentley and Maybach in certain aspects, but its gonna take a lot of work, first and foremost of which is to revamp the RL, introduce a 7 series competitor, and come out with the NSX.

Not saying the TSX is the only one. TSX, TL and MDX are all winners in my book and the sales figures I think back that up. What they've done poorly we all know so lets not go down that road again.

Please tell me someone got this from the Onion.

They will fill the FWD/V6 gap in the ultra-luxury segment that maybach and bentley have neglected, since there is a large group of buyers willing to spend $100k+ on a car but are upset there are no FWD or V6 choices at that price range.

As much as I've enjoyed mine, Acura can't be serious about getting called up to the major leagues throwing fourbangers.

I'm Down Right Fierce!
Ah. Acura is still a young company as seen through their youthful comments and dreams.
Remember the days when we, as kids, used to say "I want to be an astronaut," or "I want to be the president?"
And then for many of us, we hit the brick wall known as reality.
Produce a Mid Engine V10-V12 NSX first and then maybe people will consider Acura ready to be on the same performance teir as Maybach and Bentley.

2G TLX-S
Acura will have to ditch everything in its current line-up except the NSX, and start building only super-expensive cars with RWD/AWD and 8+ cylinder engines. Do we see any $30K small Maybach or Bentley ? Hope Honda see the point.

No matter how Hondafanboys want to spin it, Acura is barely (if at all) in the same league as Infiniti/Lexus/BMW, nevermind the ultraluxury segment. (The only hint of ultraluxury coming from any Asian make is Lexus with the LS hybrid.)
Nothing wrong with aiming high but, be realistic.

We should've seen this bold statement from them coming, I mean come on their slogan is:
"Honda: The Power of Dreams". So, I guess they really are dreaming.

B.S. meter obviously over-inflated. Her techs probably said that BMW/Lexus/Mercedes were good benchmarks and this dingis went and upped it in the heat of the moment and decided to say Bentley and Maybach instead.
