what amp do i get with 1 12" Solo barick L7
RaptorCLS
What a waste of a beautiful amp, running sub duties in mono
amirsafdari
What is your budget? Do you require the amp for any other speakers or is it going to be used only for the sub?

autophile, i want a amp dedicated to the sub..
budget is from 550u.s.
what do u recommend?
btw, i am putting 2 sets of focal uptopia's 165k components, what should i use to power them? with a under 600 u.s. budget?
i was thinking 500/4 phoeinx gold...will that be loud? i really like LOUD music...
i want my components to be as loud as my setup right now (see sig for components) but of course, i want it to be much more clear, hence the focals.
if there is a GOOD 5-channel amp that will do all this for me, what amp is it? and will it be as clear and loud as having 3 amps?

OK just a few questions before I start offering suggestions:
1. Are you planning a video set-up? If not, are you sure you want to use a component set in the rear?
2. Are you using Focal Utopia's (165W) or the Polykevlar's (165K)? You listed the "Utopia 165K" which do not exist...
3. What is your budget for all of the amps?
4. What does/will your entire system consist of minus the amp(s)?
5. Did you already buy all of the gear or are you just planning this system right now?

i am finally gonna have help from a real audiophile instead of being suckered into buying what the audio stores around me sell..
1) no video setup, yes, i want it to be LOUD and clear, i would really like it in to be in the rear too...in the audi, the rear speakers in the doors are really weak..i will also be keeeping stock headunit..
2) sorry i meant uptopia 165W ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1387925515 ) these are the ones that are supposed to be really good right?
3) I would like to spend MAX. $3000 install not included on AMPS and speakers.
4) I had this planned
1 12" solo-baric L7
2 sets of Focal Utopia6.5 (if that is the good one)
Kenwood Excelon rear 6x9 (or if u know something better let me know)
I want amp powering going to everything.
But I cannot stress enough how I want everything to be very loud and clear..right now my system is REAAALY loud, but lacks the clear part
5) I am planning all of this, going to get my car in 2 months, and I dont want to listen to stock system for longer than 1 week.
I REALLY appreciate it...
please let me know if u would make any changes..
the amps i was considering way
PG ti800/1 for the sub (is this too much? should i go down to ti600?
PGti500/4 (if it will be enough power to make the focals go loud)
and smaller amp to power the 6x9's...
OK I have a couple of suggestions/questions (I know it seems like a lot of questions, but the more we know the better the suggestions will be!)
1. Have you actually listened to the Focal's or are you just going by what everyon else thinks? If you have not heard them yet, what type of sound do you generally prefer. I know you want it "loud and clear" but do you prefer a smoother sound or a brighter sound?
2. I think I may have asked you the wrong question before. I meant to say, how much is your budget for the amp(s)/speakers/headunit/cables etc? I am glad you are willing to put a good chucnk of change towards the install though. I can't stress enough how much more important a proper install is than gear selection.
3. Do you have a headunit yet or are you still choosing
4. For the rear speakers, since you are not doing a video set-up, I would suggest using a midbass driver only. Does the Audi have rear door speakers and rear deck speakers?
5. I do not really recommend the Kicker L7. I think there are better subs out there for the money.
You can e-mail me at bso@telusplanet.net if the forums are inconvienient for you...

2) I am sorry, i was not clear..i meant i am spending 3k u.s. NOT including install..so 3k for amps and speakers.
3) I will be using stock head unit, Audi Symphany...i would not be willing to change the head unit..i like the look of the console too much.
4) I have no idea what a mid-bass driver is
Here is all the speakers the car has:1 center speaker in the dash
2 front woofers
2 front tweeters
2 rear woofers
2 rear tweeters
1 sub woofer in rear shelf
do i change the center speaker too?
5) I know, but i really like the look of the L7, im not that upset with the bass i have now, and i am sure the L7 will sound better than what i have now, so i dont mind if there are better ones...i just really like the look.
btw, u think we could discuss this in AIM/MSN?

This is one reason why I was asking if he has ever listened to them. Audio is VERY subjective. What I think sounds awful someone else might think they are the greatest thing on Earth or vice versa. Nothing wrong with that since neither of us have to live with his system. I just suggest that anyone looking to build a system should audition as many components as possible and decide for themselves...

Amir,
You should tell them the model number of the speakers so they know for sure what you are asking about. The diamter shouldn't be a problem, you are more worried about the depth of the speaker...

hey bryan,
i heard the focal 136K today, it was pretty nice. Still havent heard the utopia's...
the store owner tried to tell me that PG is better than Brax (tried, is the key word) he sells PG...what a surprise..
anyways, he also told me that i shouldnt bother since im keeping the stock hu...he said it will only sound a bit better...

is this true?
is there anyway of getting around this?
thanks

Hey buddy,
Did you get a chance to listen to some Dynaudio's yet?
You hsould ask that sales guy WHY he thinks the PG is better than the Brax...
The trouble with using the stock headunits is that you will have to use a high to low level converter to make any decent quality aftermarket amp work with your stock headunit. The converter does tend to pick up a lot of noise which may make using a high quality amp a waste of money. Ideally you want to change your headunit, but it is not immediately necessary...

nope havent heard them yet, but apparently there is 1 place in toronto that sells them...gonna see if i can go there and listen...
but, i really dont have any plans in changing the HU, actually its something i kind of refuse to do
no matter what...what do i do?
tell me its good news....
what if i just change the amps and speakers..to what we planned ...would it sound significantly better than stock?
would it sound better than my setup right now on my CL-S WITH a aftermarket HU?
honestly, they should MAKE SOMETHING that enables people to keep JUST THE LOOK of the stock headunit the same, but give u the advantages of a aftermarket...
many reasons why i wouldnt want aftermarket HU:
german car, console looks AMAZING in all red lights at night,
6-cd in dash
hate the filling that goes beside decks.
Well it is hard for me to comment on wether or not it will sound better than your current set-up since I haven't heard it in your car. My best guess would be that it would sound better. You will have top notch gear and loads of clean power. A friend of min kept his stock HU in his CL-S by using an Audio Control EQS EQ/Preamp. This unit will do the conversion for you, and provide some level adjustments. The unit is priced very well and works very nicely. You ould use this pre-amp or something similar...
Make sure when you audition the Dynaudio's that they are recieving enough clean power. I cannot stress this enough, they need a LOT to play properly!

Hey Bryan,
After lots of looking at decks, and setups...
I would not mind going with this kenwood deck that has color shock, which means i can choose the deck color to be any color i want...67 choices to be exact, and it has a red that matches the audi...
now i think the deck would look lonely, so to fill up a the space, there is an equalizer by rockford fosgate that also has red controls and would keep the console looking cool...
are there any advantages to having an equalizer? any disadvantages?
is it possible for the equalizer to actually make music sound bad?...
thanks again.
