Strange systems problems, TSX

Usually I drive around with one of the rear seats down, but lately seems like problems have been setting in, the sub cuts off sometimes due to lack of power, i can see the light on the amp flickering, just doesnt make sense to me why and not when i installed it, even tho the exact same thing happened with my jetta, problems emerged like months later. btw i have a 10" W7, and a JL 500/1 and prolly guessing i need a cap or another yellow top in the trunk, and im getting my 9835 installed

That is an install problem, buddy - I'm 98% certain of that.

It is not to be solved by a new battery or a cap - unless you tighten the terminal when you install the new battery. No way you need a new battery for that amp.

Truth is you don't know why the sub is shutting off.

I'm guessing your ground is loose or your battery terminal is loose. But it could be the signal sense turn on if the speaker wires are connected to the 6x9 wires.

I would suggest reading the 500/1 manual. It has several pointers you should know about. (DID you read the manual, by the way?)

Yeah! It sounds like a loose ground.

Does the amp shut off for a period of time and turn back on? Then it might be cutting off from a load problem (ex:short).

And possibly a loose speaker wire with an overloaded channel being turned on and off

Check those connections. JL 500/1 does not need a cap. A cap would be useless.

Had the exact same problem on my "pro" installed Alpine amp. I checked every connection on the power and ground (all the way to the battery), finding two loose ones. Tightened them up, and the problem vanished.

So does it cut out for a certain amount of time and then turn back on again? If an amp cuts out becasue of a problem it usually shuts down for like 30seconds and then turns back on. Is that what's happening?

Sounds to me like there is (was) a short and you may have burned up your amp. Did you check the fuse? If you have 12vdc going to the amp tap the remote to the 12v and see if it turns on.

Some amps, once a protection circuit activates, won't come back on until the RTO goes away and comes back.

Some won't come back on until the condition goes away (temp, low impedance, low voltage).

In my experience not very many come back on by themselves, unless it's a low-voltage issue and you're right around the threshold...
