Replacing Stuff

Hi guys
Looking to replace my TL system. I want everything to fit like it was originally. I want the stock look but with upgraded components. How big is our Rear subwoofer in the TYPE-S Tl? I want to replace that sub with a new one. And how big are our speakers in all 4 speaker holes? I am looking to put diamond audio or focal utopias in.
Thanks

Welcome! If you are planning to keep the stock headunit, i would suggest getting an amplifier for your aftermarket speakers and subwoofer. If i am not mistaken, the stock sub is 9". Do you want to replace it in the existing location or add one in the trunk? The speaker size are 6.5". Someone correct me if i am wrong.

There's a big diff between Diamond Audio and Focal Utopias.

You may want to check with Ron at Streeteffectz here... he has said that the Utopias are optimized for kick-panel-enclosure , on-axis listening.

Hi there. If you look at the stickies under TL at the top of the forum, or do a search, you'll find most of the basic info such as speaker size, etc (6.5 in all four doors for the 2nd gen TL). I don't know of many people who have put an aftermarket sub in the stock location. I think the Hex series will fit fine--as I recall they're among the shallowest speakers available. (You can go deeper).

1) Sit in car.

2) Move outboard foot out (if in Dr side, move L foot to L - if in Pass side, move R foot to R).

That thing you just kicked? That's a kick panel.

If a speaker is pointed at you, that's on the long axis of the speaker - on-axis listening.

If the speaker is at a 90 degree angle to you - like in a car door - that's off-axis listening.

I have to say you are showing some real signs of caring more about the labels than the performance. There *are* differences, and if you are looking at owning either, shouldn't you care?

Bump, I'm still stuck with a decision on both, on top of it I'm willing to pay good money for a good install it's just that I want the system to look stock (sorry to beat a dead horse) and a kick panel wouldn't make it look stock would it? I am preferring that no holes or anything get drilled IN my doors, only drilling I want done is probably to make the speaker fit behind the cover that covers them.

Also, for the tweeters, I want them to be placed by the black triangle from the side view mirrors in a nice enclosure, any recommendations? And for hex600s vs Utopia 165s, which one will have a better fitment?

Thanks
