Replaced Battery, Dead Radio!?
Replaced Battery, Dead Radio!?
Hello forum members,
I recently changed the battery on my car not knowing that it would disable the radio. Acording to the Acura Dealership, it will cost me $59.00 if I bring the car in and they enable my radio, or If i bring in just the radio in (without the car) and with a valid ID, they will re-program for $5.00.
Question is, how can I easily remove the radio from my car (according to the service person, this is easy). Can I do this with standard tools, or is this difficult.
thx for the advice.
Scott

Ummmm.. I don't have the radio code?? That's why i'm posting here. Where would I even find my radio code? Assuming I don't have it, can the radio be removed easily without special tools?
Hey Gmillian,
I tried that with the Acura dealership (Stevens Creek Acura). The information I provided in my initial post *came* from the dealership. They want $59 to re-code my radio!
UGH! She said If I could just bring in the radio itself, the charge would only be $5. So I was wondering how I could remove my radio by myself.

heres what you do
get a philips screwdriver and take out the radio, there are two screws on the plastic cover and just pull it out.
then take the radio out it has about four screws then unscrew the radio from the cd player and the radio code is attached to the radio.
call a different acura dealer because the one your calling is trying to profit from you and tell them you need the code for your radio and he will ask for the number under your radio and he will give you the code after looking it up on the net.
thats it.

Since I'm planning on upgrading my stock Bose system with a powered subwoofer, today I drove to my local Acura dealer to ask about getting the radio programming code. He told me that the only way to get it is to remove the radio, at a dealer cost of $49.95. Tomorrow I'm going to call a few other dealers to see if this is the only way. I bought the car used and there was no card in the glove box, sticker anyware on the ashtray or on the side of the glove box. Shoot, I if the damn dealers want my future repair business one of them better come up with a "free" way to give me the damn code.

hmmmm.cant seem to find *any* screws on the plastic cover, and can't seem to force it loose without damaging something. Am I missing something?

Do a search for 'stereo code' and you should get a lot more posts pertaining to this subject. I got my car back from the shop last week and ran into the same problem. Called my dealer, they gave me the number, but apparently it's the wrong number so it still doesn't work
Now I'm just going to buy a new stereo.
You can only enter the code three times before the stereo locks and won't let you enter it anymore. If you need to reset the head unit, pull the backup radio fuse in your engine compartment and then plug it back in.

Will somebody who has actually taken their Bose "stock" radio out post how to locate the screws that need to be taken out, so that I can look up the damn radio serial number. Please!!!
I visited one local Acura dealer, called 6 more (calling all the dealers for whom I had an 800 toll free number) and also called Acura Customer Service, without luck.
Acura Customer Service was nice enough to give me the name of the dealership where my car was first sold, and I called them and
almost got the code. Almost. Since the car hadn't been serviced there in more than two years, the service mgr told me that the records had been purged. Isn't that stupid. So, please, step by step, for us dummies. Where are the screws we need to remove
to pull out the damn radio, write down the serial number, and then hopefully, put it all back together again. Thanks.

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...threadid=51712 Just keep reading this, silverknight has a template showing how to do this. Someone said the code for the radio was in the glove compartment, this is true on some cars so check yours before u go tearing the car apart
