Thumbs down Problems with IVA W200 install

I just had my new Alpine installed and the installer said that there wasn't an amp on my speakers in my 03 Acura TL? When I turn the volume up I'm experiencing what sounds like heavy distortion at about 40-50%.

I was wondering if he may have connected the powered head unit to the amp by mistake, causing the amp to see too much power. I'm not sure but the sound is horrible at medium to high volume.

Please advise. thanx

It's a pretty simple install as far as the wiring is concerned - did he use the metra harness? There's really nothing to it....it should utilize the factory amp.....it should sound significantly better than the stock headunit.

I know my 03 CL can go up to 19 volume on stock speakers without getting distorted.. anything after that sounds like shit. But 19 is damn loud.

I looked on Metras site and noticed 2 harnesses both not distinguishing bose or non-bose is there a difference?

There is no factory amp on the TL's interior speakers. If you're getting popping and distortion I would replace those poopy paper BOSE speakers. Also... until you replace those paper speakers keep the BBE, LOUDNESS, and BASS settings down or off.

Who made your dashkit?

Thanks for the update...I guess I was mis-informed about the amp. Why would you put bose speakers in a car without a bose amp?

Best Buy made my DD dashkit and it looks pretty good, although I ordered another one to do the sanding/wet sanding to make it look more stock as I got the paint code from Autoworks and it matches the other trim around my Nav. system but it doesn't match the area directly above the radio itself.

Sweet. Getting a dashkit to look good in that car is impossible. Have you seen the dashkits that I make for the TL/CL? There is a BOSE amp in all BOSE systems. Even the TL. It's kinda funky though. The amp is in the deck. The Bose pre-amp EQ is a separate box above the deck. All this shite is not needed when you change the head unit.

My CL had the Bose factory amp and I also had a distortion problem. Once the factory amp was taken out, the distortion was gone

uncald4, I haven't seen the dash kit you make but could you share?

You whats the most puzzling thing is that when a DVD is played the sound is perfect even at high levels, when I switch back to Sirus/radio at the same volume the distortion is un-bearable. I've been trying to figure this out since the install last week.

SG81, Did you bypass the amp or installed a different amp?

The CL and TL Bose systems are completely different. The CL has an amp in the trunk, tweeters in the front and no factory subwoofer. The TL has the amp in the deck, an external EQ, no tweeters but has a sub. Sat Radio will never sound as good as CD,iPod or even FM radio. You're going to have to live with the sub-standard sound quality from your sat radio. The more you upgrade your sound system the worse your sat will sound.

I'll post pics of some dashkits when I get home. This computer at work is freakin slowwwwwww.

Hey, the DVD plays LOUD and clear but CD's are still distorted rite around 18-19(Alpine level) where the DVD is clear through 26-27????

I can't wait to see what yours look like... Mine looks good but I know it can be better and I'm going to wet sand the new 1 when comes in. I'll take pics of the one I have in now and show you what I'm talking about.

Since DVDs aren't that loud to start off with, I think that's normal since it happens the same exact way in my car. Isn't 19 loud enough for you anyway?

You know 19 is loud enough but I was more interested in the quality than the actual loudness. It seems to have a lot more distortion than my previous Alpine IVA-300 in my E-420 which also had the bose system. I just don't get it.

I'll be posting pics of my install as soon as I figure out how to post them.

OK, please don't be too harsh on these. I know the color is off a little and I ordered a new kit and will just wet sand it to get the right color.

Thumbs up

Uncald4: I'd def be interested in a dash like yours.. I have an Alpine IVA-D310 .. thinking about installing that or the W200.. I really like the way your kit is color matched..

PM or email me at ls1ta@optonline.net if you'd be willing to make such a kit.. I'm looking to do this asap!.. Thanks ..

Rahul
