Exclamation Possible Video-Navi Alternative...

Hey all, check out these links. There was a guy on the ClubLexus boards who got his Navi to work w/o the Pioneer AVC-RGB1, and he even has TV tuning capabilities and Video Source switching capabilities. The VideoNavi guy has also done this on his car.

The device they use is the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV.

Here is the link to the thread:

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/show...threadid=47722

And here is the link to his site where he has posted schematics:

All you technical guru's and StreetEffectz, how would this work on the TL?

the guy that created the procedure with the avcrgb1 also did something with the gex tuner...he said you need to buy and install a real pioneer monitor, otherwise you cannot see the setup display menu.

The guy that got it to work on his Lexus GS didn't use a Pioneer monitor, or any aftermarket monitor other than his Navi screen.

i saw this post on club lexus.... i believe it was vlad that was the one who got his navi to work with the gex-7000tv..... but stanman is correct you will need a rear monitor hooked up to set the gex unit up or you can memorized all the menues and do it that way which i believe is the way that vlad did it..... i read thru this whole post a couple of times at clublexus about a week ago and came to the conclusion that the new method steve the navi video guy is trying to create is the best replacement i have seen for the rgb converter.....

"Actually I did solve the "invisible menu" problem."

i guess vlad did solve that problem...but he doesn't say how. maybe he grounded the right terminals or plugged in just the cable?

if you check out the diagram on the second page, it might be the fact that he added the remote eye to the gex tuner. he had to create this mod since it does not exist from the factory. maybe the remote eye accomplishes the same thing as the additional monitor (with built in eye)...you think?

kept reading and is probably not the remote eye. i think it is because he used the video output port. i think stevetmts does not use this port (hence being able to add the monitor). so once you figure out what the pins do, then it's all good!

user videonavi says,

For the on screen text to work with the navigaiton monitor you will need to tap into the LCD controller chip of the navigation system providing Vertical and Horizontal sync signals back to the GEX.

For those of you who desperately want to have TV VTR1 VTR2 NAV or any video source displays on your stock LCD, visit www.nav-tv.com and check it out. I'm still doing some research to make one my own. I will have you guys posted when I had all the information. Stay tuned!

So if you do the TV tuner option then you can only receive local channels. I was wondering about satallite Tv or something. Is there something like that out for cars?

I know I mentioned it and everyone thinks it's pricey, but I have an alternative to the pioneer piece...the whole kit including the rgb decoder, rf modulator, switches, wiring, installation instrucions is $500. I have tested and installed it in a customers car already so I KNOW it works.

Hey Ron..I know I e-mailed you about this..But is the install pretty easy...And is it a basic plug in and finished or is there modding that needs to be done to the unit?

Thanks
Mark

Wink

Has anyone looked at the viewsonic vb50hbtv?
I haven't got one yet but in looks like it will work.

Has an rgb pass-thru so no relay, TV tuner built in, and a
connection for video in, and it is only $99 after rebate
at bestbuys.

Hope to have one this week will keep posted.

It's possible it would work, but three problems....ONE, is that you have to PLUG IT IN, so you'd need a power inverter to run it, and TWO, the RGB output is on a D-SUB connetor so you'd have to get the schematic drawing of this unit to find out what signals and pins do what.

The third thing is....It's kind of big, no? Where do you put it, and how clean of a signal will you get if you get too far away from the navi screen.

As far as size again I don't have one yet.

As far as power how hard is it to replace a 12VDC wall wort.
the D-sub is a standard pin out, so no schmatic needed.
I don't have the pin out in front of me but if I remember right
pins 2,3,4 are the rgb pins.

I don't think I can mount the unit far enough away from the display to cause problems. But maybe if I drag it behind
the car I could.

And at $99.00 it is worth playing with.

SO with the exception of size no real problems.

thank you Street for your input.

Think again. Keep it as close as possible or you're bound to have some interference.
