Opinions on eclipse and jl sub and amps?

Hi I was thinking about getting the 1000 watt eclipse aluminum 12" sub or possibly a JL W6. DOes anyone have these or heard them? ALso, what are some other good sub-amp combos people would recommend? I'm hoping to keep it under 1000 for whole system. would appreciate any opinions, thanks!

Are you sure they aren't made anymore? They are on the JL website.

By the way, how much were your eclipses?

you should visit www.jlaudio.com , and check out the W7 speaker. From what ive heard (i have a friend thats listened to this sub) its supposed to be amazing. They come in 10,12 and 13.5 inch sizes. The largest sub can handle 1000 watts. I have 2 12 inch W0 speakers, and they sound great. I cant imagine what the W7 would be like. This thing probably has enough power to blow your trunk wide open

hey samzilla, what kind of amp do you have running those w3's? How much did u pay for the speakers (if you dont mind me asking) I love my w0's, but i think one may be blown( these speakers are almost 5 years old) Im looking to upgrade sometime in the future, and JL subs seem to be the best. I bet your stereo is bumpin!!

i haave the JL audio 500.1 amp pushing them... i think they were like $400 for the pair... not quite sure... i'll check the reciept when i find it...well... my stereo will be by next week... i'm having a custom bandpass box built... they are probably going to port it into the cabin... it's supposed to get rid of that trunk rattle and they're changing out all of my door speakers to the JL audio XR 6.5" and adding the XR tweets... i'll post pics when i can... i'll should have those pics back today of my Mugen spoiler... i haven't seen many on here, so i hope they came out alright

The new JL w6 is called w6v2, which is similar to W7 but not that big and not that expensive. I dunno when it suppose to be on the market, but we already got some in our store!! And it is a beautiful subwoofer.

Talking

I just ordered a JL 13w7. I am powering it with a zapco 9.0xd (2200 watts). It should pound As far as the w6's go they are not discontinued just re-designed. (400.00 a piece)
I would personally go with the JL subs over the Eclipse. I have heard the aluminum in several applications, but really didnt like the sound that they put out. No offense to anyone who has them and likes them, I'm just voicing an opinion. I love Eclipse products I just bought my 4th Eclipse head-unit (55090). Well good luck in making your decision.

Amplifier suggestion

If you're looking for a good clean & powerful amplifier than you should definitely check out a used A/D/S P4100.2. Before I bought my Acura I had a 2-door Tahoe with 2 of these amps. A/D/S makes one of the best amps available but not too many people know about them because they are kind of pricy brand new and noobody wants to spend the $$. That's why I recommend buying a used one. It has a built-in crossover and and you can add a bass control knob if you want. Used as a 4-channel it is rated at 100 watts per channel (4x100), bridged to a 2-channel is (2x300), or mono (1x700). This is actual RMS rating not some cheap amp that states that it's 700 watts. I used one 4100 to power my two 12'' A/D/S subs and the other to power my two sets of seperates and It sounded absolutely incredible. Ask anyone who knows about stereo's and they will tell you how good they are. You can probably find one on e-bay for between $350 and $400. Good luck with any decision you make but I guarentee that nothing comes close to the quality of the A/D/S.

JL makes amazing drivers...but w/o a doubt, the eclipse titanium sub will produce more SPL than a W7 (this is what i've seen in sound offs)...but because the weight of a w7 cone is much less, the w7 has much more tonality and can stay linear at much higher volumes (less distortion) Hence, in order to compare driver to driver, a W7 would have to go against a titanium.

Anyway, if you really want to hear a great driver, wait for RMS car audio to come out w/ their new 12" It'll have a 3.6 peak 2 peak...dual 4 ohm 6" voice coils...and will beat out everything else on the market...
