Need Amp Help...

I have (2) 8ohm speakers (JL 10w0)...
Each speaker is 125watts RMS...

I know I need to parallel wire them to drop them to 4Ohms... That would leave me with a single positive and a single negative wire coming from my box...

Questions:
1) If I get a 2-Channel amp, would I take that single pos and neg and bridge the channels?? or could I just run each 8Ohm speaker to it's own channel without parallel wiring them??

2) Should I get a 2-Channel amp that is rated (125watts x 2 @ 4Ohms RMS) or do I need to find a amp that is (125watts x 2 @ 4Ohms PEAK)

3) Would it be easier to get a mono amp so I don't have to bridge anything?? If so, what watts would I be looking for??

Also, I'm trying to spend under $200 for this amp so the cheapest amp I can get would be great... This is for my girlfriends car and she can't afford alot...

If anyone has any amp idea's with websites, please post them!! I need this amp ASAP... Trying to finish installation before I ship out (Military)...

These are the 2 amps that I'm looking at... The first 1 is 125W per channel and the other amp is 250 bridged (125+125=250)...

Phoenix Gold Octane-R 4.0:2

* RMS Power Output: 125W x 2 @ 4 Ohm
* Peak Power Output: 250W x 2 @ 4 Ohm
* Birdged Output: 400W x 1 @ 4 Ohm

Website with Information: Here

or

Phoenix Gold Octane-R 2.5:2

* RMS Power Output: 80W x 2 @ 4 Ohm
* Peak Power Output: 160W x 2 @ 4 Ohm
* Birdged Output: 250W x 1 @ 4 Ohm

.
You would be best off with most amps bridging them and paralleling the speakers to a 4 ohm load.

When you bridge an amp each channel "sees" 1/2 the total load, so if your amp is 2 ohm stable in stereo it is 4 ohm stable in bridge mode. That will give you the max safe power for most amps.

Need? You seem, like a lot of folks today, hung up on the max power rating of the amp as the needed power to run the woofers.

If you want to run an amp bridged to that 4 ohm load and not go over 250W total, then you should get one that's rated for 250W bridged mono into 4 ohms. But I'm still not sure what your intent is.

It would be EASIER. But mono amps usually put out more power into 2 ohms than 4. From a bang for the buck standpoint you will probably get the most watts into a 4ohm load by bridging a stereo amp.

The smaller PG is probably fine for what you're doing. Not sure that it's going to have GREAT sound quality, but you won't get it for $200, and you won't hear it while you're gone anyway.

Best of luck!

So basically you're saying $99.95 for 400W or $76.95 for 250W?

Drop the extra $20 bucks I say! You can never have too much amplification

It might be $20 but my speakers are only 250W bridged... I wouldn't need the extra power and it puts my speakers at risk of blowing... Now that I'm going to parellel them and bridge the amp, the cheaper one is the way to go...

Your speaker are ALWAYS at risk of blowing.

The 250W rating is the rating before the amp starts to distort - NOT a hard ceiling of power output. If you abuse the system and set up the amp wrong, you can blow those subs with either amp.

Another forum member and I had a long wanking argument about this... regardless of the side you take on it, it's acknowledged that you can blow up your speaker with either of those amps (if their outputs are not total lies - whichis always possible...).

PG amps are used in alot of small SPL and other competitions around the mid-south where I used to live... Without going into big competitions, the price for quality is rather well I think...
