MP3 CHANGER CUSTOM INSTALL with PICS!! (dialups beware)

Since All the radio stations in Miami, Florida SUCK ROYAL ASS, I decided to create my own
using the NEO35 MP3 JukeBox. I bought 2 units because my friend wanted one but he totaled his car and now I am selling the second unit. Email me at
ridewaves@aol.com if you are interested.

The Neo is a Hard Drive Based MP3 Player holding 30 GIGS of Music (That's
your entire library and much, much more). It can be trunk mounted and has
a wired remote control with the same display and buttons as the head unit and
also has a wireless remote control too!! It is installed just like a CD changer
via an RF Modulator or an Amp with RCA cables which are both included.
This kit is amazing because it comes with EVERYTHING you need to install it in
ANY car. However, I was not comfortable having some wired box floating
around my car so I decided to do a custom install.

Since I dont use my sunglass holder, I figured it could be modified to hold
the remote display. It still opens and closes just like stock and when its
closed you cant tell it was ever touched. For those of us with leased
cars, this is cool b/c if you have to replace the part...its just a cheap
plastic piece, and if you dont, when closed, you cant tell it was ever touched. See pictures below to see how it looks now. I have also
included step by step pictures on how to do this yourself in this car. I
forgot to take pics of the sunglass holder before I put it back in, so use your
imagination for the mods I had to do.

First I must thank BLK^5 for telling me how to access the Radio Antenna.
It was his first post and he replied to my previous post with detailed and step by step instructions saving me time and
sanity. I used his directions and included my pics here to demonstrate.
THANKS MAN!!

----------------------------------------------------

THIS IS THE VERY FIRST STEP!!!!

REMOVE THE WOOD MOULDING

NEXT...

NEXT...

Now you have slight access to the antenna cable behind the radio right in the lower
driver's side corner.

Pull out the cable and pop in the one for the RF Modulator.

Next, I ran ALL of the cables behind the dash and under the driver's door
sill and around the back seat to the trunk where I mounted the main unit.

This is a temporary mounting place, I will move it later.

This is where my wired remote is...are you jealous yet?

Now You See It................................. Now You Dont!!!

     &nbsp ;
Please...No Autographs!

--------------

This is the little tiny remote control unit...

Well...this is my solution to too many goddamn radio
commercials and all the radio stations sounding exactly the same down here.
If you are wondering how much music this little sucker can store?....Let me give
you an example....I only have 3 Gigs filled right now and I can drive across the
country and back and not hear the same song twice. The Unit will hold 27
more gigs....that's a hell of a lot of downloading.....

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK... I AM SELLING THE
SECOND UNIT. IT IS BRAND NEW. I JUST WANT THE MONEY BACK THAT I
SPENT ON IT.

SINCE I HAVE INSTALLED THIS ALREADY, I WILL INSTALL YOURS FOR
A FEE. THE TOTAL INSTALL TIME TOOK ME ABOUT 4 HOURS BECAUSE I TOOK MY TIME
AND I TEND TO GET A LITTLE CREATIVE.

EMAIL ME AT
RIDEWAVES@AOL.COM FOR MORE INFORMATION.

How much does the unit cost? I had seen one with 6GB, but 30 GB will never get filled. Nice setup, I wanna get an MP3 player installed like that, with the control in the sunglass holder.

F$@&en A right!!! That is the best idea I have seen yet. So you just load all you CD's (via a computer) on to that thing and that's it...no more changing CD's??? Does it tell you like the name of the song you are listening to??????

Yes,
It is a hard drive that connects to your computer. You can load ALL your mp3's.
Yes, it displays all the track names and time left on track and has a customizable EQ.
here is a closeup shot

BP,

that is one awesome install..
How is the unit powered? From the CD port on the HU??
How does the RF sound? I heard it wasn't so great..

do you know of any products that will emulate the CD changer?? If we could plug that mp3 changer into the aux input of something that goes to the CD changer input of the HU, that would be kinda cool instead of using the RF antenna.. just curious..

DO we have an auxilary or CD changer input? I keep getting conflicting answers. If we do, then it should be easy to hook up to this.

I believe we do because there is an harness in the back of the stock radio that has nothing connected to it. It's just the matter of knowing the pins configuration.

Guess I'll just start up a thread asking StreetEffectz about it to hopefully get a definitive answer.

Thanks for the compliments...
First, I have it paowered from the fuse box on the accessory fuse that powers the radio and the navi system.
Secondly, Though I have it routed via an RF modulator, it sounds very good on my system.
On a scale of 1-100 if CD's are 100, i consider the sound to be a 95. Add to this the convenience of carrying 800 CD's in your car with you at the touch of a button. Also, add to this the convenience of no more commercials and its all your favorite music. Also add to this the fact that I have had the system for one week and I have yet to listen to the radio. I think my final score for the system is a 300 out of a 1-100 scale.
Lastly, The problem is not figuring out the pins on the back of the factory head unit and connecting it...the problem is how do you tell the radio...ok switch to MP3 mode now. There is no "AUX" button on our radio in case you havent noticed...i really dont want to mount a seperate buttonsomewhere on my dash just to activate this and get the radio to switch modes. I love this setup...I have it always playing and if i am listening to the radio and a commercial comes on? I just click the #5 preset on the radio and it tunes in my own personal radio station "WMP3".. HA HA HA

Do you still have it? I got mine around the same time as you. It just started having problems. It's not getting the juice to spool up the hard drive in the car nor the PC. It works maybe once out of 20 attempts. Anyone know how to fix this or get more juice to it?

I have the same unit. I don't think they even make it anymore. I'm desperate to fix this. If anyone wants pics of it let me know. It fits flush in the second din under my radio. Awesome investment I'm not ready to cash in on yet.

ed... try www.openneo.com

you said that it doesnt work even when its connected to the computer, right? if so, its probably the hard drive and you'll need a new one.

I agree with car_lost's diagnosis. The only other thing I could think of is the caddy itself that holds the HD has some sort of failure. One way to find out (if you're brave enough), is to open up the caddy and pull out the HD. It's no different than any other normal IDE computer hard drive. Hook it up to your computer and see if it gets enough juice to work from there. If it does, then you'll have to replace the caddy somehow.

It's most likely the caddy because this morning I was going through my HD looking for a song to play when it actually worked for a few minutes. After the song ended it lost power again (I think). If it's the caddy it could be as simple as a connection but I don't know how to look at them. Also I hear about DC-DC converters that might help level the power but that's a pricey possible fix.

nope, no soldering.

cut the power wires and tighten them around a screw. thats it. takes like 5 minutes.

i actually have a dc/dc converter. it one that most neo people use. it cost me $47 shipped... i'll give it to you for $30 if you want. only thing is, you are gonna have to set the voltage yourself. it easy to set it, just turn a plastic screw on it. the hardest part will be to read the voltage using a voltage meter (and thats only hard because i dont know how to use one). let me know.
