HU replacement question

whaddap fellaz....question...I just got my 2002 TL type-S (pearl white) about 2 days ago. I'm seriously into music so I'm ready to do my system...but I have one concern...when you replace the stock HU with an aftermarket one, do you lose the functionality of the audio controls in the steering wheel, and if so, is there any way to keep that functionality.
Thanks in advance, I know this question has probably been asked a million times, but hey, someone might have some new info....u never know.....nuff respec fellaz...eZZzzzz

if you are a music lover, and not a gadget lover, and want to keep the steering conrol, you could keep the stock HU and build a pretty decent system out of it.

I think there's a steering wheel remote converter for about $70. See crutchfield. I think it's IR, so probably a pain finding a place to mount the emitter.

Many of the new headunits come with remotes, so it probably isn't worth the time and money to get the steering wheel volume buttons to work. Once in a while you'll hit the buttons on the steering wheel by force of habit, but it'll go away.
