ready to put in the new hu....almost

i tried running a search, but couldn't come across anything

i am going to put in a premier 860 unit in my 02 tl-s, but have some wiring questions
ok, the deck has

8 wires for the four speakers
a wire for connecting telephone (ignore)
yellow wire - to terminal always supplied w/ power regardless of ignition switch position
red wire (has fuse resistor) - to electric terminal controlled by ignition switch (12V DC) ON/OFF
orange/white wire (has fuse resistor) - to lighting switch terminal
black (ground) - to vehicle body

now, am i going to have to tap into wires to connect these, or do i just match up wire colors to the wire harness i bought?? also, i heard the ground should be seperate from the ground i use for non-audio things...does it make a difference? thanks for any help

everything else in my sound system is stock

crap, i'm a idiot, i just looked at the harness more closely, and all the wires are labeled, so that means i just match up the wires, twist them together, and tape 'em up (electric tape), right?

solder is best. easiest way is to buy the harness adapter, and solder it to your HU harness, then just take it outside and plug it in.

actually, i'm still somewhat confused

besides the speakers, the harness wires are labeled

12V batt/memory
illumination
positive dimmer
12V ignition/acc
power antenna
and an unmarked black one

can anyone help tell me which one of these wires corresponds to the ones from the deck, mentioned in the first post??

12v battery---yellow wire(constant power)

illumination---don't need it

positive dimmer----don't need it

12v ignition---red wire(ignition)

power antenna-----don't need it UNLESS, you have a power antenna, or you are in need of a remote turn on wire for your amplifier. It's probably safe to say you don't need it for your application.

Black one----ground wire, connect to bare metal(better)-or to black wire of harness(o.k.).

note:do yourself a favor, if you don't solder the wires use some connectors. "Twist and tape" sucks because a wire could become "untaped" and cause some serious damage to your headunit or worse, your car!!

thanks for the info

what about the orange/white wire from the first post? it says to connect to lighting switch terminal. anyone know if this is just a waste, or does it actually connect to something?

Looks like there are two illumination leads on the car, and the harness you bought supports them both. A9-red/black is +12V when the lights are on, A19/red is variable voltage depending on how dim you have your dash lights. Use whichever one your new HU supports. (Some HUs will take a dimmer lead and dim themselves, others just take the power signal and dim a certain amount, some don't support it at all).

See the sticky post, comprehensive data... there's a link to a forum with the harness diagram. You can use the harness diagram to verify the leads. Here's the link to the diagram:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=harness

Print out the diagram, and double-check each lead as you connect it. You should get double confirmation because the harness you bought is labeled, and you can look at the pin position to verify it against the chart.

If you want to be super cautious, plug the harness into the car without the HU and verify the four power leads with a meter (one always on, one on with the ignition switch, one on with the headlights, one on with headlights and variable with dash dimmer).

Remember to be careful with the polarity (+/- leads) on the speakers. Getting one or more backwards can affect your SQ and volume.
