Home theater question

I have a receiver that only has one optical input, altough most of my devices have digital outputs. I am only really concerned about having both my DVD player and XBOX hooked up with a digital connection. I think there is a "Y" adapter for fiber optic on the market but I can't find anyone that sells it. Anyone else run into the same situation and have a diffrent solution.

Bad idea. Don't use any passive switchers. They make some active switchers, but they have some delay in the repeat. They aren't meant for A/V use, audio only. They run upwards of $400.

Does your reciever and DVD player have a coaxial digital input/output? If the reciever does, you can pick up a unit that converts the optical to coax, which works pretty good. I'll pull out some catalogs and get you some models if you want. Expect less than $100, maybe $50.

So just use coax on the DVD, and optical on the XBOX. Problem solved. I like coax better anyway, it's easier to convert to the professional AES/EBU format.

No prob.

What reciever do you have? You can prob set the inputs to default to the right digital in.

I have an RCA thats about 2 years old, I know that I can switch between analog, coaxial, and digital for most of the inputs. I will pick up a coaxial cable tonight and try it

The Midiman (M-Audio) folks make a neat box. The basic Co2 unit runs 50-70 bucks. If you want to strip SCMS get the Co3 unit.

You can defeat SCMS by simply using AES/EBU instead of S/PDIF. Most consumer audio CD dupicators have jumpers so you can defeat it too, they just can't sell them this way. The RIAA ain't got nuttin on us audio folk...
