Help!!!!!! Amp problems
I just bought an amp for my subwoofer (10" xplode) And it started overheated(i think). It's been shutting off and it is very hot to the touch. I think it is the ground wire, could this be possible? Anyone with idea's? Thanks a bunch.
The amp is most likely running at 4 ohm mono... Give us some more details, amp brand and model, size of power and ground wire, where the gain is set, and if the sub in a 2 or 4 ohm speaker, dual or single voice coil?

Its a wiring problem
or a short in the voice coil of your sub. Try disconnecting the sub from the output of the amp and watch the power light to see if it shuts off. If it doesn't then you know its not the amp.

Weird. Looks like everything should work right, assuming all the wires are in the right place. Like spyd said, I'd double check that.
Checking the ground is a good idea, though I haven't personally seen a bad ground make an amp run hot... it usually just won't run.
I have had several amps do what you described and it turned out the amp was jacked up...
Is this a new amp or something from eBay or what?
For shits and giggles, you could try hooking your sub up to one channel of the amp in stereo mode just to see if the amp will run for an extended period in that mode without overheating.

I bought the amp from Circuit City open box.... I am thinking that you may be right that the amp is jacked up. I am going to also try running it in stereo mode like you suggested, and I relocated the ground. So we'll see what happens, thanks for your advice.
What size power wire? Is the ground the same size? It could be a screwed up amp.... Did you scrape the metal free of paint before attaching the ground? What size fuse is in the power wire at the battery?
I got the situation fixed I think, I returned the bazooka amp, and picked up an alpine amp off someone from the board. The sony sub works great, especially at the price I got it at.
