Has anyone replaced just their AMP?

Just wondering if anyone is still running their stock Bose speakers but have replaced the stock amp with an aftermarket amp. If so which amp did you go with and where did you place it and how does it sound?

sure, you can,

I had someone do it for me, it looks like shit back there, but it sounds great.

he spliced into the lines just before they hit the stock amp, figured out what was what, and ran them to the amp using line out amplifiers & hand made RCAs.

works like a champ, there are others on this board who can attest to how it sounds.

I havent touched anything audio since High School, but I though that standard 4 channel was 8 Ohm, make it 2 channel an its 4 Ohm, bridge it down to one channel and its 2 Ohm.... But I am just pulling off of some old dusty memories.

Mantis, where did you mount the amp? Got pics?

In car audio, it 4 ohm first. 8 is home.

Yeah yeah, thats it. So you basically take a 4 channel amp and make it a 2 channel to get the 2 ohm then?

you know what im talkin' about...

and you know what speakers I'm usin' too. :P

connecting the stock speakers to an amp is ez (just bust out the wire strippers), connecting an amp to the stock HU, is the difficult part, which is what I thought I would shed some light on.

(stupid can't EDIT after 5 minute rule...)

I did do something ghetto however. I put the Stock Bose speakers in my secondary car powered by an aftermarket amp.

sounded better than the crap that was in there.

couple questions:
you think it's safe to do so with the stock speakers?

how much was that particular amp, and what would be a cheaper but just as good alternative?

how much did all this cost you?

would you recommend doin this?

how's the sound quality? (bass, highs mids)

im a moron. I forgot i did this in my TLS. You can do it and it does sound better, but you have to make sure you the amp is turned down, alot. The sound is clearer but there is hardly any midbass.

Just spend $75-$100 for speakers, they will be better than the bose speakers.

i didnt say anything about the stock amp. Get an aftermarket amp, and some $100 speakers and they will sound better than your bose. Image Dynamics make some cheap speakers that sounds better than bose, look at those.

ok got a few questions...

1) in the 01 CL-S, the bose speakers are set up to an amp?? or to the HU? I'm not familiar with this as my last car was just set up to the HU.

2) How come everybody seems to diss on the stock Bose speakers? I have been in a variety of cars, from bimmers, benz, audi etc, you name it. These stock speakers are AWESOME compared to what I've heard in the other cars. The high's are really clear and there is plenty of bass for these stockers. I mean, when I upgraded my stock speakers in my previous car to Infinity's, all the bass was lost but the highs were amazing. I don't see why anybody would upgrade just the speakers w/out subs because you'll lose ALL bass, and teh Bose has a combination of both.

3) What are the sizes of speakers this car runs?

4) What exactly is a component set?

Thanks

Most amps should support 2ohms. Don't you need the wiring diagram for the bose amp and jus connect it to the high output on the amp?

like what hes doing??
