Fiberglass boxes for TSX trunk

Here are some pictures of the fiberglass boxes we are doing for TSX trunks. This is a DLS 10" (the same model Sergeremi used). Some of you got to hear it at the Seattle meet.

http://kward1.homestead.com/TSXfiberglassbox.html (56k beware...)

This box can be molded with or without the trunk tray, and requires no mods to the car other than the industrial velcro we recommend to hold it in place during HARD lefts.

I heard this bad boy on Saturday at the Acura meet in Seattle and I gotta say IT ROCKS! You wouldn't think that it would be as loud as it is, but it is loud. It form fits to the trunk and barely takes up any space what so ever! You can even keep your trunk tray in there. I was very impressed with it!

We estimate it at about 0.65 or 0.7 cf before the woofer is inserted. It's about 0.5 after most woofer magnet/frame displacements (beefier 10's are usually around 0.15)..

The way to measure this, BTW, is to get some granular laundry detergent and measure how many cups it takes to fill the enclosure.

We haven't done that, we've just estimated it. But that's the "right" way : )

Oh, btw, small sealed boxes are actually kinda power hungry - but the woofer in this one has a lotta throw so with good power it can play with authorit-ay.

Oh, loaded, I charge much lower prices, but I try not to go on the board after drinking...

Lemme verify how much we had in materials into it and I'll post it for all. Sorry, forgot to do that.

I was going to make the same box, but since you made it maybe you could pop out a bunch and sell them since I seem to always be busy with the kids. How much?

Nice work! I like how you used trunk carpet instead of cloth. Will have to keep that in mind.

E,
I wish I had seen this post sooner, I just moved from Seattle to Phoenix and drove through Portland. This box looks realy nice and is exsactly what I would be looking for. Can you provide the following details when time permits:

1. I would asume that any 10" sub would fit correct.
2. how deep is the box, (so I buy the right sub).
3. If I was to buy this, what would be the best methoid to mount it in my trunk beside Velcro. I was thinking something like: http://www.correctproducts.com/corre...opup/1.6.9.gif
3.5 What would you recomend be the max wattage for this box. (So I dont wire a 2000W amp to it and shatter it)
4. How much will you be selling this for.
5. How much does it weight. (So I can figure shipping)
6. Do you have some mesurements. (So I can figure shipping)

Most should. Many subs are now using way deep cast frames and magnets, and with these we would want to verify up front, but most will fit. As far as which ones will work well, that's a different story : )

If you use a snap like that, I would mount a 1" wide nylon strap to the top of the box and have the snap on the end of it.

In the immortal words of James Dean, "What have you got?" : ) I don't think that power is a problem. If you wanted to run a LOT of power, I'd drill the baffle ring for nut inserts and use machine screws to mount the sub... but I think your sub is still the weak link, not this enclosure. Id I had 2kilowatts and had to bet on the woofer or the box failing first, I'd bet on the woofer.

This box with no grille, we will do for $400.

If you buy it with a DLS woofer the grille comes with many of their mid and high level drivers. We give you a deal with the woofer and a box together, by the way - for this box with this woofer in it, $500. For this box with a W310B woofer in it (think W3 level with a rubber surround) figure $450. For this box with an Ultimate DVC Loooong-throw UR10, figure $650.

With a matching fabric-covered grille that press-fits over the woofer, figure an additional $100.

For a 12" box, figure $500. For the 12" version of this woofer, figure $550.

I estimate it at 10 lbs, but I am going to get it weighed this week. It would go in a box 16 inches square, but you'd probably want some more packing material than that, so I'd use a 24x18 or 24 x 24 box.

BTW, the woofer in this box weighs 10 lbs also, for reference.

Thanks for the quick answer, I will probalby go with Diamond Audio Sub's as I want to match timber and like the sound of the new D6:
http://www.diamondaudio.com/products...&line=2&model=
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...781389098&rd=1

They are not as efficient as other subs, but properly powered they sound great.

Would it be possible to get some hi-res pic's of this from different angles?
http://kward1.homestead.com/upholstered_box_in_car.jpg

Mounting Depth/Diameter: 5.6 in. / 9.2 in. should be ok than correct?

Yeah...that would be nice. On the JL site, they recommend .625 cubic ft for a sealed enclosure. Seems like this would work pretty well.

Would it be possible to make a figerglass box in the corner with about 1.25 cubic ft of airspace? Or would it be way too big to fit in the corner?
