Changing Out The Headunit To A Clarion Auto-PC!!

As some of you might remember, I posted about my headunit choking on a CD.......well, the stereo is DEAD.

After arguing whether to just replace it with a stock deck, or changing to an aftermarket, I have decided to go aftermarket! I am picking up, of a friend of mine, a almost new Clarion Auto-PC. He installed it in his Mustang when he started his project (5.0 bored to a 5.8, nitrous, and more shit than I can list). This was a year and a half ago. The car just stands in his shop, so the stereo has only been used several times. Mint Condition!

Now my question is: What is the story with our stock amp and stock speakers. I know BOSE tweaks their stuff out, so not to be compatible with other systems. Can I just swap only the deck? or do I have to change the amp and the speakers? I know it will sound better if I swap out everything at once, but cant afford it right now, maybe during the summer I will swap out the speakers.

So, what else do I need to do when changing the Headunit from OEM to an aftermarket deck?

Thanx in advance!

that doesn't answer my question! With all the equipment in your car, you should be able to answer it.........

you can leave your stock amp/ speakers :p The stock wiring in the back of your stock deck is where the fun lies... making those wires fit into your new deck will be a nice mind job for ya. Get a diagram... probably need some bass blockers if you dont have a sub..

Just played the same game as you.....cd's got stuck, contemplated whether or not I should get the original HU put back in or go with an aftermarket. After several varying opinions what would work and what wouldnt, I decided to just have the stock HU replaced. I am told that there would be some serious wiring involved.....(i even had people tell me it was imposible because of the ohms that the bose speakers operate at) Basically gut the system or leave it intact is what I took out of it........

This is my suggestion. Do not know if it works well or not since the Bose amp and speakers were the first things I dumped once I got the car.

- Splice RCA cables into the OEM head unit output wires.
- Plug these RCA cables into your Clarion preouts since the OEM head unit outputs are at line level. By doing this, you are feeding line level signals to the Bose amp. I think the sound quality will improve since your Clarion HU puts out much better signals than stock HU.

I dont see anything that could cause problem to the Clarion HU by doing this but do not hold me responsible for the outcome.
