Question Can I add a DTS decoder/5.1 amps to stock head unit?

Can I just add a dolby digital/dts decoder and a 5.1 channel amp to the stock head unit without loosing the navi voice capability? Can I use the line converter to convert the output signal from the HU to speaker and feed it to the decoder (this decoder has 2 coax digital and 1 L/R RCA analog input. and the decoder connected to this amp using 6 RCA cable.)

the only thing that i concern about changing the head unit is loosing the navi voice. Is there a way to maintain the navi voice with aftermarket Head Unit?

Why not use the aux inputs on the new head unit for the navi.

yep, mrtl.... it's the same stuffs as the AC3/DTS home theater (designed for car though). I got DVD in the car and looking for a way to use the digital wiring rather than regular RCA wires for surround sound. Plus I can have a new Subwoofer and a center channel. Also for DTS audio too.

Right now I have no idea where to put the center channel .... Still looking for a good spot without a major mod. The best place I can think of right now is the dashboard but I don't want to cut a hole there and who know what underneath that dashboard.

StreetEffectz .... HEEEELLLLPPPP

I was sweating over the same question. What do think about putting it in the large center a/c vent next to the gages????

dash is the best place or in place of the coin tray. IMO if you have all that equipment get a new head unit and hook up an aux speaker to the navigation audio out.

IMO the voice controls are not that good and they are kinda annoying, I lost mine and don't regret it one bit. My friend has the navi in his car too and whenever he uses it and I am in the car I get annoyed. JUST my opinion though.

Cool

Too bad we don't have the center channel speaker like the 1st generation TL's.
If I were to put one in, I would put it in the glasses holder(just make a ABS plate) or if I'm not mistaken eclipse makes a rear view mirror mounted Center Channel Speaker.
IMO the 5.1 setup sounds good if your watching a movie but sounds like mud if your gonna listen to regular music.

well if you are listening to regular music i don't think you would use the 5.1 setup, just defeat it and listen to it in a normal manner.

AAHHHHHHH.........
you can select Dolby digital, Dolby Pro Logic or Stereo on the car unit???? Just like the home units!!!
But you'd be wasting alot of power.....
Lets say your 5.1 is 100watts x 6. When you switch it to stereo you'll be using only 300 watts(200 for stereo and 100 for sub).

Glasses holder is a perfect solution but I already used that spot to house my VAFC

Do you know how does the Eclipse mount the center speaker in the rear view mirror? We are getting somewhere here. This one is mainly for my Video Setup. But it is also designed to steer to 5.1 from any regular 2 channel stereo. But for any dts setup, you defintely right about regular audio sound like crap

Here is a pic of the Eclipse Center Rear View Mirror Mount Speaker model ESG-8220

I can't find anything for rear view mount for Alpine but found one for dash mount .... look pretty bulky
