Bypassing EQ

hey guys, I just bought my 2003 TL (SSM, Non Type-S) this past weekend and am in love with it. I have done a lot of reading on azine and you guys are really helpful, so thanks.

Me being a noob, I do have question:

I am looking to upgrade my stock h/u to a Pioneer Double Din DVD Receiver, and have read a lot about "losing functionality of sub/amp and bypassing the EQ and such." Losing the sub isn't a big deal to me, as I am going to put aftermarket in it anyways. But about the bypassing of the Bose EQ, will I have to physically have to wire around it, or will my aftermarket wiring harness do that for me? I have used the search function, but am still unclear about this.

I have basic understanding and experience with radios, subs, and amps, so I am just trying to gauge the difficulty (If I will have to take it to an audio shop or not)

Thanks in advance!

The 03 TL as wiring from the head unit to the equalizer and back, plus wiring from the head unit to the speakers, then there is the wiring from the equalizer to the rear-mounted amplifier for the subwoofer.

I have researched this to death here, really the FAQ / DIY section & the factory service manual are your friends. There are aftermarket harnesses that will accommodate what you want but there are things you may not have considered yet like - is the navigation voice command important to you? Do you want to retain factory steering wheel controls? What about the speakers and factory subwoofer? The direct fit replacement options for the sub are very limited due to limited mounting depth and free-air installation.

If you plan out what you want to do, it could be fairly straightforward, but if you try to wing it I think you will get frustrated.

Thanks for the reply! Turns out I am just going to keep my stock hu and add a Blitzsafe and line out converter for my sub.

Thanks for the info though!

You can keep your stock head unit and add just a subwoofer without a LOC >>> I just did it last weekend. It's a PITA to get to the equalizer behind the nav unit, but it was worth it for my install.

This thread will give you the how to -> https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/keeping-factory-sub-when-adding-aftermarket-headunit-99-03-tl-326253/

Others intercepted the signal near the trunk at the stock amp, but I placed my amp under the passenger seat.... so routing speaker wires & RCA's to the dash was easier and made the dash option right for me.
