Amp Install Advice / Ideas (TSX)

Hello all. I am planning to start building a new amp rack for my '05 TSX this weekend. It will hold a JL 250/1 (which is now on the back of the rear seat) and a 300/4 which is currently not in the car. I am planning to mount them on the forward part of the floor (between the wheel wells). Ideally, I'd like to put a board under the stock rear panel to reinforce it, and mount the amps to that through the stock panel. I am planning to make a removable flush mount panel to protect the cabling. I am also planning to make a cover for that with metal mesh and grill cloth to protect the amps yet allow heat to escape.

My question is, if I go this way, how do I mount that bottom board while avoiding the gas tank. I did a search and saw a previous thread, but didn't really have any answers. Am thinking brackets to the raised area at the base of the seat or straps to something else. also thought about siliconing that board down.

Also, if anyone has ideas on other ways to mount these, I'd love to hear them. Driver's side rear corner is out of the question as the sub is there. My main goals are:

Somewhat easy access to the controls for tweaking
Retain at least one side of the folding rear seat (preferably the smaller side)
Amps need to be protected (reason for the 2 panels mentioned above)

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm going to bump this. I plan on installing a JL 300/4 and 500/1 in the back of my TSX, but have no idea as to where to mount an amp rack in the trunk and to what. Any ideas and real world knowledge would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

jay427 - i would suggest getting rid of those stupid torsion rods that assist with lifting the trunk and get some gas-shock style ones put in. that would give you an easier time with building some custom racks underneath the rear deck

bullyx2-i have no clue what to suggest for your plan man... sorry

I figured something out. I have always had my 250/1 on the back of the larger part of the rear seat. I moved it higher on the seat, then built supports on the side of it and mounted the 300/4 over it. It's lower on the seat though so not covering the heatsinks. Of course, when I fired it all up, the 300/4 is bad so had to back to JL for repair. It's back at the shop that sent it in but haven't had a chance to go get it. Once I do, I'll take pix.

Unfortunately, that wont work with a 500/1 since it's the same size as the 300/4.

My plan is to mount them next to each other to appear as 1 really long amp....I am thinking of making my amp rack sit in the front of the trunk near the seats and go the entire width of that area (if it fits). I was going to just simply build a 2-3 inch tall frame with a piece of 1/2 or so plywood covering it. The problem I am seeing is securing it to the car somehow. I'm not sure how to do this with the gas tank directly underneath.

Probably an easy way to secure it to the sides or the raised part right behind the seats. I was going to do that as well, then make a cover to go over them. Cover was going to be a wooden frame with metal mesh, and wrap it all in grill cloth so hot air could escape. I have my sons hockey gear in there at least 4 times a week though, plus bags and cooler when we travel, just knoew that'd get beat all to hell. Then decided to mount one on top of the other on the back of the seat. Was easy with my setup, but like I said, would be more difficult with your 2 amps being the same size.

cool, thanks! I didn't think to use the lip between the trunk and cabin to secure the amp rack to...I'll check that out.

Found a pic from before I removed the 300/4 for service. This was all I could find (other than under the rear deck) that fit all of my goals. I do not think heat will be an issue, but if it is, I will have to come up with something else.

I have a JL 300/2 mounted under the drivers seat on my TSX. It fits perfectly and have had no problems for more then 2 years. The only thing is that the controls are facing towards the front of the car, so if adjustments are needed, I have to unbolt the seat (I have only had to do this once).

You sould be able to mount the 250/1 under the seat and have the controls and wires facing the back of the car with no problems. I'll try and get some pics up this weekend.
