Add tweeters?

Hello all, I am hoefully buying a tl-s next week and I had a stereo question. I dont want to get a whole new stereo system, but I was thinking about assing a pair of tweeters to help the sound a tad. Has anyone done that? Is it worth it? And where is the best place to mount. Thanks for helping out this future newbie.

I have tweeters installed in my doors right next to the door handles. If you're going to install tweeters though you might as well get a new system because the stock bose is $hit. Maybe this post should be in the audio & electronics forum.

i say install them in the plastic door sill so you can always buy new ones to undo what you did. Cutting into your door panels is a more expensive replacement. Ask this question in the audio section.

hum i still do not like that idea of installing the tweeters there.. 1 look at the pictures the tweeters are angled down.. that can not be good for the overall imaging.. 2. i think the tweeters are to far away from the midbass to give you proper imaging... you want your mids and tweeters as close together as possible... hint reason why alot of your speaker manufacturers are make components that have the tweeter mounter directly in front of the midbass (ie, image dynamics, new boston acoustics, cdt, etc...)

Yeah the tweeters are no good angled down. I have them in my door (flush).. but I really wish I had them angled toward the listening position so they werent aimed at each other... might be my next mod if I ever see fit.

For some reason I think leather is bad for acoustics.. I had my same system installed in my (cloth) Olds before the TL.. and it sounded A LOT better. either it's the cloth or the overall acoustics of the car...

I agree 100%.

Mounting the tweeters in the sail panel will definitely degrade the imaging. Your best bet is to check out the way Systek mounted his tweeters directly in front of his mids. (Sorry I don't have a link to his install page!) His method of mounting the tweets ensures that the soundstage stays as intact as possible.

Kicker, CDT and Image Dynamics (I personally have the IDs) make comp sets that let you mount the tweet to the mid much like a typical coax speaker. You can't get any better soundstaging than that unless you have a system that allows for time phasing between the different components.

i totally agree with you bozz except for one thing you can get better sound staging one other way.... KICK PANELS .... kicks allow for the right and left speaker to be approx equal distance from your ears regaurdless if you are in the driver or passenger seat.. but without having to do all that the best imaging will be achieved by putting the mids and tweeters together like the cdt, and id's have them...
