2002 Tl-S Head Unit Replacement Scenario
All,
To begin, I apologize for asking what others may have done, but I'm having difficulty compiling mutiple threads into a single, coherent plan.
I have a 2002 TL-S and want to replace the head unit with a nice CD/MP3/XM unit that will:
1. Work with the factory Bose system.
2. Retain steering wheel controls.
3. (optional) keep Navi sound in tact
4. Maintain a nice, flush appearance with trim around the unit itself.
I appreciate any and all help with this! Also looking for install shops in the Nashville area.

1) Just purchase a Metra wiring harness..
2) The steering wheel controls can be saved but at a cost.. Crutchfield sells the PAC SWI-X adapter.
3) Retain Navi Prompts with aftermarket headunit installation
4) A Metra mounting kit. And you can add a dash kit to match the interior of your trim (wood grain etc.)
No clue about Nashville install shops..

I always use www.crutchfield.com
The items needed (wiring harness and metra kit) may not be listed. If they aren't just call their 1-800 number..
Crutchfield is also the place you can get the PAC SWI-X adapter and any other supplies needed for the install.
For a headunit and/or radio I usually use www.etronics.com they usually have the cheapest prices.

Thanks, again, Scott.
I saw Crutchfield also has the PAC SWI for Sony, Alpine, etc. Presumably they work just as well with the Acura controls if I go with one of those brand HUs.
I had also read an old (2005) post that the metra harness worked but the factory bose sub would be lost. Do you know if that is true? (Metra's website shows two different harnesses for the 02 TL.)

Sorry I forgot to mention to purchase the brand specific PAC SWI.. You are correct.
There's a thread on keeping the stock sub while adding the a aftermarket headunit in the sticky thread:

Called Crutchfield and they did have the metra kit and harness instock. Said it was direct hookup of new deck to existing Bose. Later on I called back to place the order and a different rep says that some special device is necessary to work with a bose factory system and they didn't carry it for the TL. Argh.

You should be fine with what you have.. The newer wiring harnesses have what you need built in. I'm just not 110% sure becuase the TL has the EQ and stock sub.
Yea, Jonesi is right. All you need is the Metra harness kit, just tell them you don't have Navi. For some reason, they don't realize that it is the same harness whether the car is navi equipped or not. So just order the "non-navi" metra harness for the TL.
anybody got a link to this new metra wiring harness that will let me keep my factory sub and amp?
i just got a Pioneer Z1, and wanna make sure I get the correct harness for it, so can somebody please help me out.

Alright, im sorry if im being repetitive here.. I've been searching and reading through old threads for a couple hours here and I want to make sure before i buy everything.
- I have a STOCK 99' Acura TL
- I bought an Alpine CDA-9847 Headunit already..
- I need the Metra Harness (http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_....jsp?cid=17025)
- I need a Dash Kit (I'm going for Metra)
After I get the metra harness and dash kit, will I need anything else? I'm going to guess that I have to crimp/solder the Alpine harness wires to the metra harness wires accordingly? (color matched?) Will I be able to keep my stock speakers? Am I missing any steps? Thanks again guys!
P.S. I read the thread about keeping the stock sub and after i confirm that the aftermarket HU works with my stock speakers, i will add in the stock sub.
