OK, I'm not looking to upgrade the factory stereo on my 00 TL since the current one does me fine, but I do like the fact that the 02 TLs have the 6 disc changer right in the head unit. Since both units look like the same size from the outside, is it possible to put the 02 TL head unit in the 00? I figure that if it ends up being about the same cost as the trunk mounted changer, then I'd be better off.

That, and the fact that the guy who owned the car before me spilled something on the LCD which WON'T come off! Idiot...

This has been done by a board member who owns a '00 TL and an '02 TL-S. He said the dealer did the swap for him because he put an aftermarket head unit in his TL-S, and it was plug-and-play. The only problem is finding an available '02 TL-S head unit. The head unit for a CL-S (also an in-dash changer) looks similar, but has a different amp set up so that won't work. Do a search and you will find more info on the subject. Good luck in finding one.

 

I have a CL-S 6-disc unit for sale. It will work, because I installed it in my '00 TL.

The difference for some reason is that the TL unit's amp is self-contained where the CL-S unit uses an external amp. I've put my original single disc stereo back in my car, and I will let the CL-S unit go for $200 with free UPS ground shipping included.
