lets have this one (whoever shows..shows ) and if better weather is required/wanted for this filming and "launching" just pick a date and location in the spring. not in January when the weather is risky.

 

Due to the bad weather and not many are going to be showing because of it, I have cancelled my hotel. Sorry.

 

I'm going to make the call. The meet will be postponed. We'll work on another date. The reason we were having this meet on Saturday was to minimize the impact to personal schedules so people could go, as well as picking a central location to minimize traveling for everyone.

The problem starts in the Dallas area (and those coming from LA). We are expecting the main brunt of the front coming through Friday & Saturday with the arctic front right with it. Sunday, Dallas is expecting freezing temperatures and winter mix, which means ice. This makes for unsafe driving which I would not ask anyone to do.

I wanted this to happen as much as anybody but I'm not going to throw caution to the wind.

I ask that you understand that planning an event 2 months in advance is going to be tricky this time of year. We've basically been in a drought all year and now with winter upon us the weather decides to change with precipitation. Based on the last 2 storms that came through most of Texas over the Holidays we have to take this next weather front serious. If it had not rained like it did, twice, 2-3 weeks ago I'd be willing to risk it.

Please understand! For those that this really puts a monkeywrench into your personal plans, I apologize deeply. I hope that when we reschedule that you can somehow swing it.

 

Guys, lets try to reschedule it for one month away. February 16-18th weekend! We can do this. Everyone just adjust their schedules.

 

Well I'll be the first to say that if anyone has already made plans to be in Austin this weekend I'm down to meet still. All of our local austin meets have been 3, 4, or 5 cars tops so I'm always down.

 

well the weather isnt bothering me at all. if anyone still wants to come up to austin to have a good time and have a meet still just let me know cause kevin and i (distortedolskool) are interested in kicking it with yall.

 

im down. we are installing coilovers on kevins car friday/saturday so if anyone wants to drink beer and hang out then let us know. we will prob take some pics somewhere afterwords and do somethin fun hopefully sat night still.

Yea I know. I noticed that as well. But rain is rain. We can easily reschedule and have more people show up. Remember, Austin might just have rain, but people coming from Dallas, will need to drive back possibly in sleet with the Canadian front moving in. It is best to keep people safe and just reschedule.

 

i guess, but i really dont think the cold stuff is going to happeen in the day time until monday there is no way there will be any freezing anything when its 60's in the daytime.

i dont mean to attempt to overthrow someones authority, but i think the gun was jumped a bit on the whole cancelation thing. besides...the filming thing isnt EVERYTHING about the meet. i thought everyone wanted to get together!? i have been to many meets when its light rain and still had a blast.

The meet has been postponed. It is not happening. If everyone can not show that is a good reason to cancel. Most of DFW cancelled before this was annouced and some others.

It's also about not putting peoples lives on the road in bad conditions. You might understand that the older you get. I use to not care myself, but these days I do.

 

I dont think Russ was talking about the cold stuff in Austin. The weather is Austin is just going to be wet and miserable. Dallas weather is also sucking. On Sunday its even worse. They're talking light freezing rain all day Sunday. Its just not something we want to drive back to..

I dont think we jumped the gun at all. I think we made the best decision based on whats been put in front of us. I agree, it wasnt all about the filming. This has nothing to do with us not wanting to get together, this has everything to do with safety.

 

I know everyone is upset that the meet got postponed. But I hope you all understand like some have that this was to protect our fellow members here from the weather and possibly a car accident. The weather just wasn't going to make a good picture taking event and a fun event period. The drive was gettng cancelled because of the rain, and if people showed, all we could do was hang out and talk, and find something else to do. I personally think this was the best option after thinking about it and talking to others.

We can now plan it for next month, have a bigger and better plan for a longer drive than 50 miles (That goes by so fast I think we need a bigger drive) and some more thoughs on ideas on what we could do. Set a schedule for Friday night for people who want to have dinner coming in that day, to Saturday all day events to Breakfast on Sunday. This will work out for the better I believe.

I don't believe anyone jumped the gun on this because it was in the best interest of everyone. Mark, Ethan, and I as well as others have worked hard to make this meet happen. We will make it happen, just at another date.

I ask all of you to support us, and we will again have a great meet next month and pray the weather is better.

 

Well I have decided to just to go to Dallas and hang out with those peeps this weekend, because its a shorter drive then AUSTIN. I fell like shit that I'm not going to be able to see Grayson and Annie, but I will defintely be at the next meet!

thanks for the invite, i should have a place to stay. seems like weather forecast is getting better and better by the hour. may be a nice day in austin and dallas saturday after all. either way, im gonna lose some rubber on IH 35 this weekend

 

I was totally looking forward to this weekend, but, oh well. I would be up for rescheduling the meet for any given saturday/weekend we have coming up. Fridays are bad for students and people with typical 9 to 5's.

The next upcoming weekend (Jan 11) might be too soon since certain members might need some buffer time to reschedule, but I think it would be best to try and get it in BEFORE the approximate weekend of February 17. If we don't do it by the time the dead of winter sets in, then it most likely won't happen until spring starts rolling around, which is months from now.

 

Better and better, um, no. It's a good thing we cancelled. Local forcast as of this morning has the cold nasty crap moving in to Austin by mid Saturday. Good call on postponing the meet
