2021 TLX Advance SH-AWD (some issues)
Hello! I just picked up my TLX on Friday and I am sadly having some issues. The only major issue is the selling dealer is 4 hours away and I am not going back to them for these things. The first night home the backup camera (only the rear one) stopped working. It works intermittently now. I also noticed oil around the oil cap and dip stick and that doesn't seem normal to me. The engine also (to me) sounds a little weird. It kind of sounds like a fishing rod being reeled in when I accelerate and I also hear a very high pitched electrical noise when I accelerate as well. I (myself ) have never had a turbo before, but I think it is something else and not the turbo as the noise changes with the vehicle's speed. I also don't hear the same noise on my mom's civic. I know it is a diff engine and all, but it is still a turbo. I also noticed the MPG was horrible. On my 230 miles ride home with it, I averaged (BARELY) 25 mpg all highway. I have not pushed it past 4k RPM as I am breaking the engine in, so it was a very relaxed and reserved ride home. I did not see anything specifically in the manual for a break in period, but I am basing it off of the break in for my mom's 2019 1.5T civic which is the first 1,200 miles or so. I also noticed my windshield rubber trim is popping up on the drivers side (kicking myself for not noticing at delivery) and the dealer scratched my windshield taking the ice off of it. I want a new one, but idk how to go about that since I can't just up and drive to the dealer I got it from. The only reason I went so far was because I got an amazing deal on it there, and no where local would match it.

Yeah, I do kind of see that now. I think they broke the camera in all honesty though. I had them install the dark chrome badging, and the camera is right out of the Acura Emblem. It is being dropped off today at the dealer. The service manager said the windshield trim should be an easy fix. However, I want the windshield replaced due to the scratches in the lower drivers side area. They aren't that noticeable, but I am very OCD and quickly saw them. Whether they contact the other dealer and they cut this local dealer a check to fix it or do it under warranty, I don't care. I just want it corrected. Same with the backup camera. I in all honesty did call Acura Corporate and said I wanted a vehicle replacement as this is ridiculous to have this many defects off the factory line.

it doesn't look like those defects were from the factory line....
it looks like you bought/leased the car sight unseen or in the dark/at night time.
as a self proclaimed OCD person, it would have been your responsibility to inspect the car before signing the papers.
hopefully, the acura dealer you are taking it to can take care of you. well, take as good of care as they can.

so you think they overfilled it with Oil or just maybe made a mess checking the level? I think the windshield is a defect from the factory line. I don’t see how they could have done that. Yes, it was late at night and I was exhausted when I was looking over the entire vehicle. It was the one thing I missed and then of course I didn’t look under the hood as it was brand new with 5 miles on it. I agree the backup camera was most likely damaged during the emblem install though.

yes, but you would have caught the windshield trim if you inspected the car.
the car was probably passed up by many people thus why the big discount or good deal you found on it.
that orange thing looks like a spark plug coil? if so, and there's oil around it...not a good sign

2. Good
3. If not noticeable or in the driver's field of vision, not sure I would pursue getting windshield replaced. That is a major deal (might come-out worse or with a different scratch). Seems that Acura is still using soft/delicate glass . I also think that anyone touching car needs to be more careful (but most are more concerned with easy/fast).
4. This is why I always buy from dealer that will do service. You can hope it will go smooth, but you never know.

1. Probably. Most of these "dealer installed options" are very "tear the car apart to do it". See the PDF here. They would have to be very careful.

Yeah, messy level-checker or not inserted all the way at one point.
You could clean that up yourself with a rag now, and watch it over the next few days.

Sorry about your Holiday GRIEF!
It's really too bad, because when the car is RIGHT, it's AWESOME
Engine noise? I don't think so; this car is way quieter, than my previous 7 Acura's
It's actually smooth as silk
Bring it to a reputable dealer, or take your chances, with the one who sold it
If it was me, I'd call the GM of the selling dealer, & raise hell; (in a professional manner)
Believe me, bad publicity, is something, that's not on their menu
Good luck, & HAPPY Holidays!

With the engine-cover it looks like the actual hole is deep. It looks like they (line-worker or dealer) could not take the time to grab a funnel or just didn't care about a little oil spilling. Actually, I guess it doesn't hurt anything.

Ew, why does it look like I recorded this on a toaster 🥴.
here is a driving video and the second video is a start up. You can kind of hear what I’m talking about engine wise in the startup video

Unfortunately, it is a brand new car, and the first production batch. Also even dealership techs/mechs have a bit of a learning curve to overcome. A couple months down the road, and after "training" through dozens of new cars, then buyers are able to receive near-perfectly prepped cars.

You need to bring the car to the dealership and let the mechs take a look at the car.

I listened to your videos and cannot detect unusual noises, that being said bring it to an Acura dealer and I am sure they will figure out if something is not right.
I saw the details of your lease on Edmunds forum-you really snagged a smoking deal especially considering it is a 15,000 mile lease. I heard dealers are applying flex cash at their discretion and this dealer must have applied a generous amount to your deal.
What color did you choose?
Best of luck with it-when you are happy with the fixes you will really enjoy the ride.

I think videos look like that because it is focusing on the steering-wheel (not gauges).
Your lease-details sounds like you got a good deal.
Try to make some time to get it to a dealer so a qualified technician can take a look.

The engine sounds fine to me. I would always try to take delivery when there's still sunlight left. I'm curious which dealerships you went to. Your PM box is full so I can't PM you.

This is a combination of buyer's remorse and laziness.

I went with White/Parchment. Thank you! I enjoy it other than the issues it’s been having. I have another video to post. I’m not sure if it’s the turbo or not. Regardless it is annoying and I hear it in the cabin at idle.

I think it’s because I’m a new member. I tried deleting the two that were there. Maybe that will work? It was on the east coast. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to disclose the dealer or not on here as part of any kind of rule.
