USB Issues Workaround

22 TLX Type S
Issue: USB port seemed to randomly not detect when something was plugged in, which is my AAwireless adapter. If the AAwireless didn't connect I would test a wired connection and it would not work either. It seemed to be somewhat random and happended most often when leaving for work in the morning. I went into the diagnostic menu for the car and would see the USB port was red and not working. I could reboot the system then but that was getting annoying.

Fix: After digging around online I was pretty stumped until coming across the following thread for RDX's which, I believe, basically use the same infotainment system as the TLX https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-rdx-.../#post16768401

This user mentioned letting the system boot up and get passed the black screen with the "star burst" animation before putting the car in reverse and activating the rear camera. This made sense to me since I would remote start the car for a a minute or two before backing out of the garage. Since it was already running I could just get in and go and would not let the infotainment fully boot before putting in reverse and activating the camera. After reading the thread I have made a point to let it at least get passed the black screen with the animation and usually by the time it gets to the blue warning screen I can put it in reverse and everything works as intended. So if anyone was having similar issues try this out and see if it works. I'm not sure if there is an update at all from Acura for this or if its just the way it is.

I always have an mini USB flash drive, containing all my MP3 and FLAC music, plugged inside my TLX 24/7. In approx 1 out of 10 engine starting, the ELS system will fail to detect the USB drive. But subsequent engine-off-door-open-engine-on operation will detect the USB drive and play the music content ok.

I have tried USB drives from many different brands and in many different memory sizes, and even though some USB drives have less chance of having non-detect problems, none is 100% perfect. I can't find any relationship in regarding to temp, engine run time, and number of engine restarts with the USB drive failure occurrence. It is a purely random occurrence.

Very annoying.

Had similar issues on my '21 TLX/ASPEC
My '23 TLX/ASPEC, has none, as long as you
wait for the screen boot-up, & physically, press the USB ICON, on the screen

Who do you think gave him that idea?

If you are going in reverse quickly after starting up the car, either out of a garage or out of a parking space, you haven't let the system fully boot up. Even though the garage door is open, I try to back out of the garage as quickly as possible because of CO buildup. This normally doesn't allow for proper bootup (which is slooooow!).

I believe the CP works all the time if the system had the proper boot up time. This absolutely means the backup camera shouldn't have been engaged while the system was booting up!
It's just TLX owners helping RDX owners and vice versa!

Acura's computer simply cannot multitask very well during bootup. The multitasking of the computer loading the onboard nav, plus the rest of the components of the infotainment, becomes overwhelmed by the introduction of phone connectivity into the mix, specifically any connectivity involving the USB port. I learned to wait until the onboard nav is fully booted up (you can tell when you get a compass heading in your center display if you are not loading the maps into your center display already). Then, and only then, do I connect my phone to USB, and then I also wait until the carplay display fully populates before starting any music playback. This procedure has pretty much eliminated all wired carplay glitches since the first few months of my ownership back in 2021.

COAX cable recall

I just got a "Warranty extension" letter from Acura referring to a Coaxial cable terminal for certain cars, including our 2021 RDX. Acura says that the cable was not manufactured properly and it may lead to poor communication in the media-oriented bus network, which can affect the audio sound quality. I am wondering if that would also cause the system to not recognize a USB presence, giving the "no device connected" or similar statement when USB is selected.

Have you tried waiting for Infoteinment to fully boot before putting car in reverse gear? There is no other known workaround known and Acura refuses to fix this.

I am told that USB ports in the latest Acura models are still USB 2.0 and will not take USB 3.0 drives.

Haven't tried for myself yet.

But I winder if anybody have tried using old 2.0 thumb drives.

Thanks.

OK, here is what I found out:
Music source, it is Android Auto or USB. When I turn off Bluetooth on my phone and Android Auto disconnects,
I must restart my car and USB becomes available. Turn BT on, USB is not recognized and system advices my to use my phone to play music.
Is it in settings of Android Auto, probably not.
Any comments on that?

use IPhone 16e
Must have Bluetooth & WiFi on to use Apple CarPlay
When WiFi is disconnected, you can use infotainment & USB, for 5.1 music
You CANNOT send texts when USB IS IN
YOU CAN RECEIVE THEM
HOPE THIS HELPS
