Front Parking Camera
Front Parking Camera
Hey all,
I have a US model TLX Type S, and pulling into parking spaces sucks! Is there any type of front-facing camera that would be easy to install on this car? I don't want to do anything that alters the vehicle too much since it is a lease. The front sensors do work, don't get me wrong, but having a camera also would be helpful!
I don't need anything fancy - just need a basic front view. I'd be ok if it even sent the image to my iPhone.
Any thoughts?

I, too, own a Type-S. For my prior car, I purchased a front camera that integrated/displayed on the dashboard video from BimmerTech. A quick search for a non-vendor specific camera, offers numerous options for you. On vacation now. On return, I'll look deeper for a camera.
I think if you push the camera button on the steering wheel stalk you can scroll through multiple camera angles one of them being the front camera view. In the manual under a certain amount of mph you can get the front camera view on.
For the Acura Surround View system, the display shows a bigger main screen and, to the right side, a smaller surround screen. The main screen can show either the "front cam + 2 front sides" view or the rear cam view, depending on the tranny gear position (R or non-R), but can't show the 4-cam surround view. The surround screen always shows the full front/sides/rear (full-4-side) surround view around the car. I wish the full-4-side view can be shown on the bigger main screen, because the smaller surround screen is really small.
When the tranny is in any gear other than R, pressing the end cap button on the steering wheel stalk will bring up and can also change viewing angles for the "front cam + 2 front sides" view on the main screen. When in R, the Surround View system behaves the same way as the regular TLX Backup Cam system on the main screen, with the only exception that there is a full-4-side view showing on the smaller surround screen.
The Surround View System is extremely useful in squeezing my car into an otherwise impossibly tight parking space, and in preventing me from scratching my rims on island curbs in crowded shopping malls and parkades.

Correction. My mistake. The Surround View system is NOT available when the tranny is in R and the regular Backup View is up on the main screen.
