RDX to TLX - Worth it?

Hello,

So, I currently have a 21' RDX Aspec lease. I am 1.5 years into my lease, and I am seriously thinking about moving into a TLX Type S. I have gotten a few numbers from a couple of dealerships, and they are actually more reasonable than I would have expected. I have yet to drive a Type S, but I have driven a regular Aspec TLX. I really like it, so I can't imagine I wouldn't like a Type S with even more power!

Since I am comparing two totally different vehicles, has anyone gone from an RDX to a TLX Type S? If so, was it worth the switch? Is the Type S worth the extra cost over a regular TLX Aspec?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, how many of you are currently leasing vs. buying? What is your monthly payment for a TLX or a Type S?

Thanks all!

The type s is extremely fun to drive imo. The leasing numbers on the type s at least in my area are absolutely terrible. I ended up just buying/financing at MSRP 3 pct interest not the greatest deal in the world but trust me cant put a price on happiness

I mean, to be fair, you did put a price on happiness when you signed the paperwork. 😝

But I do agree. I’ve driven the RDX and do enjoy it but there is just something special about the TLX Type S. I have no regrets buying this thing.

Acura White Pearl is also stunning. I was able to get my Apex Blue with red interior because I ordered it and was at the top of my dealers list when preorders were about to begin.

If you need room for cargo and passenger, I’d stick with the RDX; otherwise the Type S is the way to go.

The dealer that I use in IL actually has one currently in transit. It is definitely marked-up though. They were trying to get me in it for $800/month. Yeah, no thanks! When I inquired about leasing it, they seemed to lose interest in me.

Honestly though, I am not going to pay way over sticker price. My 21' RDX Aspec suits me just fine for now. Sure, I would love a Type S, but I can wait until things stabilize a little bit.

Having test drove one on 2 different occasions and even living with the A-Spec AWD for a week it would definitely be worth it for driving dynamics alone and the sheer low end torque from the turbo. But the pricing is out of control one of the reasons I let go of trying to get a Type-S two months ago.

But if and when the market crashes and/or an economic downturn happens definitely gonna snag one up from someone.

Ah, yes. I’ve heard McGrath does that. I bought mine from Advantage Acura in Naperville with no markup. Not sure if that’s how it still is although I could likely find out. But it may be out of your area too much.

Well, they are 2 different vehicles for sure. And, I own both. The '22 RDX A-Spec/Advance is the ticket. I had a '19 A-Spec....but, this new one is great. It's my wife's and she loved
the other one, but, this one is way better with the Advance model goodies on the A-Spec ext. and int. design. You sit up higher in traffic, can haul 'stuff" if needed and it's damn quick.
Also, is great in snow and ice. Same power train and SH-Awd as my '19 had, and that's what I'm basing that statement on. My '22 hasn't seen the snow yet.
The Type S is just another animal. And for someone who said "if you want a Type S you'll have to pay over MSRP"....is wrong. Lots of "depends on" that he overlooks.
I paid....MSRP for my '22 Type S. Main reason...my dealer doesn't sell over MSRP for any Acura...including the NSX Type S, that only 350 were made. They sold 4 I believe.

Just read my own "Signature" here....all my vehicles are white/red. LOL! I of course knew that, but, seeing it looks like I really like white/red vehicles. Yes, the Platinum White Pearl
is an amazing color. Red interiors make the insides come alive. Black, dark interiors are, well, boring. Like sitting in a mine shaft!! LOL! Many high end euro cars like doing red
interiors too. But, each to their own...of course.

Really?? Hmmm....you need to do your homework before making a "written in stone" type of statement. I paid MSRP for my '22.
Finding one now...yes, hard....and there are a few in the U.S, but, they stopped making them for '22 MY.
Have many of the "few made" this MY been marked up...yes, many. BUT, there are some dealers that do sell at MSRP....as mine,
for ANY Acura, including the very rare...none left....NSX Type S. 350 made. My dealer sold 4...at....MSRP!! So, we better not take
your statements...to the bank. It's late in the game now. But, getting the "more correct" info out there is what we all need to hear.

Something about those ass shots on the Type-S. I saw it in Apex Blue Pearl, and had to get one (Superman spec).

Since the thread it still alive ...

If your RDX didn't have shAWD, I think you will appreciate that. I think all TLX Type-S have shAWD.

No flames please, but isn't the RDX like a fancy CRV ? The TLX is more like a sedan (lower, like an Accord, but wider and with a longer hood). The Type-S is faster with a V6 engine and pretty much all around better (except for some Tech that only the TLX 2.0T Advance has).

As for "worth it" ... well, it's gonna be more money but if you want to switch I say go for it. And a little ADM never killed anyone.

They are both built by Honda, like VW and Audi, but do they share parts (chassis, suspension, engine, interior components) ?

I have driven both and can say the RDX is much more refined and sportier. It also has SH-AWD which is far superior to the system the CR-V uses.

I see you made the comparison with the TLX to an Accord which is a good comparison. But the TLX, at least in my opinion, is as much the Accord as the RDX is the CR-V. Not very close overall but then again I always appreciate the Acura design language.

Saw a TLX-S in person last week. Gotta say it's one of the best, if not the best looking sedan in its segment. I can understand why they sacrifice interior space for that exterior design. Looks really good.
