Paint defect on 2021 TLX Type S
Paint defect on 2021 TLX Type S
Anyone ever hear of a paint defect with spots underneath the clear coat? Being told the only option is to do a complete repaint on a brand new car with less than 30 miles on it? Don’t know why Acura would not help and make things right?
Had the car delivered and didn’t see the small specs until I took it to a detail shop to apply ceramic coating. Been dealing with this for the past 3 months while still paying for the car. Asked for a manufacturer buy back or trade and was denied. They only want to spend $16k to paint the entire vehicle and don’t they it is a bad thing?? Pictures are attached.
When the paint chipped-off the bumper in sheets the first time my wife hand-washed our 2014-MDX at the self-serve car-wash (it was "her car" and I had an appointment with an estate lawyer),
... our Acura dealer had the whole front-bumper repainted for us. Even gave us a free loaner. They used the proper paint/clear-coat since bumper (well, its a Bumper-Cover actually) flexes. Perfect match and never had another problem with it in the 6 years we owned it.
The Regional Acura Service Manager just happened to be visiting dealership and he had to inspect and approve it. He also apologized for the inconvenience.
Turns out, we were not the only ones to have this happen (I have the Internet article here somewhere). Apparently, there was some problem with the paint process on these first ones off the Alabama assembly line (an all-new model). Ours was a "special order" since we wanted "Silver, gray leather, Tech Package, shAWD".and we waited 6 months for it.
We had been buying Hondas, so this was our first Acura purchase (not a lease). We were pretty freaked out at first, but the way the dealer and Acura corporate handled it ... it turned into a casual repair.

That’s BS, keep fighting it. I had a fathom blue ‘15 TLX shawd that had paint chipping away around the rear windshield. They took to body shop to get it fixed since they don’t paint on-site and gave me a RDX a spec loaner which was was nice. I think on fathom blue it was known to start chipping after a while.
