I just bought a 2021 Platinum White Pearl Type-S Monday and just noticed the passenger side light was out. Not sure I want to go down the rabbit hole of replacement based on everyone else's experience, even under warranty.

FWIW, mine still work. Did yours ever go out?

Backpedal all you want, but it's clear as day that you don't consider the puddle light issue to be a common problem that is being blown out of proportion. Or is that not what you said?

Way to completely skew what was said. Is English not your first language? Read what you claimed and what I said, which is what you quoted.

For a second I thought you had forgotten that you said thing a few posts ago in this thread but you seem too young for amnesia. I guess trolling it is.

I like how you criticize me taking your post literally, while at the same thing you took the Corolla post literally as well. What’s that saying you often say? Pot calling the kettle black?

Apparently, someone who doesn’t have a TLX feels like he has some valuable input here. Meanwhile his posts have zero value to the thread.
Based on how often he likes to talk about me, I’d say he’s a big fan of mine.

I have talked to service advisors and technicians at my local Acura dealer and the amount of TLX needing puddle light bulb replacements is very high. Even they have had to replace their own puddle lights several times.

This isn’t an isolated issue. But thankfully it’s not one that’s important to fix so I usually get it done while I’m in for service rather than make another trip.

So my passenger side puddle light gave out on me at the end of last week lol you’d think this was fixed on the 2023 models… but alas. I called my service advisor and he told me bring my Type-S in this week and they’ll replace it within an hour or so. So the good thing is they know the issue is rampant and have replacements on deck.

Surely you had planned all along to install welcome lights that everyone says makes the puddle lights going out irrelevant?

Ugh, this car has been nothing but a jynx for me. From being rear ended to puddle lights (haha like everyone) and a replacement windshield. Well, it’s time for windshield replacement #2!

oh well, I guess I’ll get this replaced and then get my puddle lights and oil change done. 🤦‍♂️

That sucks! Do you think anything about your daily commute might make it more susceptible to collecting windshield cracks?

Oh for sure. I drive on the highway now which would make me more likely to get these. Just my luck though lol

Avoid driving behind large trucks is the best advice.

Odds should be in your favor with more experience!

I had cruise control set to follow at the furthest distance so I had a long distance between us. A pick-up truck swapped lanes suddenly and as he crossed the line he kicked a rock up at me.

Sadly this was unavoidable.

Sometimes, you know what a car's going to do based on how passive/aggressive they've been.
If that truck was showing signs of aggression (i.e. weaving in and out of lanes), always good to give them a wide berth.

Agreed that many things are entirely out of your control.

No signs at all. That’s why this was an absolute nightmare. Cracks getting bigger just sitting.

Damn that really sucks dude! Watch out for these jerks out there. Sometimes I feel like people are hating too when they drive near my Type-S and they want to do some random sudden shit like aggressive lane changing and speeding off to bait me to race them. I just let them cruise by and look like idiots.

I don't expect the PMC to be any different. Hand built doesn't help if the parts are the same.

It’s only weird if you put candles in a cake for its birthday

A small info: at dealer doing my oils, I asked about puddle lights if we’ll get a TSB or a permanent fix and he was like straight up “no” because apparently they’d have to re-do the whole mirror design and they don’t have any plans for that lol

Haha, how did they even release it with such a major design flaw? It’s nothing for me to either leave it broken or replace it at each oil change though.

The thing I’m most pissed about and want to demand they fix is the useless wireless charging pad. How in the hell you install a charging pad that doesn’t work with an iPhone is beyond me.

Ironically for me, this was one of the least glaring issues for the TLX as I was always forced to plug in the iPhone to get CarPlay to work (and it was charging while plugged in).

I'd be pissed if I was an MDX or newer RDX owner since it comes w/wireless CP/AA out of the box!

I always use CarPlay but there are some nice wireless adapters out there which I had tried and loved. I ended up returning them because the charging pad didn’t work so I had to stick to the wire.

Just a heads up. My '23 came with the driver side puddle light dead on arrival and I just checked the other one and has already failed at 2000 miles. Maybe that is why Acura is offering welcome lights as an option haha.

Do you have an A-Spec or Advance? I think newer literature excludes puddle lights from the A-Spec but I could be wrong about this...

That is one weird thing I've noticed about AZ. Sometimes the signature will decide not to show up!

I agree the welcome lights are becoming more of a necessary accessory (especially if you want to keep the luxe factor up)!

So what exactly is the difference between what you guys are calling "puddle" lights vs. "welcome" lights? I've always thought of puddle lights being inside the door at the bottom edge of the door panel that comes on when you open the door.

Anyway, I have noticed my passenger side light under the mirror is out. Driver side still working. Only driven in the rain once, but have done a few touchless washes and a few rinseless washes. Not sure exactly when it went out, but know it was working originally since I have to approach the car from the passenger side in the garage coming from the house.

Puddle lights project from the side mirrors straight down into the ground. Welcome lights project from the sides of the car and are located underneath the car (if I'm not mistaken).

Congrats! You are now indoctrinated as a full-fledged TLX owner. Losing your puddle light is a rite of passage!

Yippee!

As long as they don't have to replace the entire mirror...unless Acura wants to pay for my PPF replacement...

I believe the fix is to replace the whole fixture, I'm afraid.

So far, there are no reports that the "fix" is permanent...

They often order the mirror as well as I was told the mirror usually breaks when they replace the puddle lights. At least that’s what my service guy told me.

My Solution for Puddle Lights

Just FYI...

The puddle lights on my TLX Type-S failed a month after purchase. I read the troubling posts on this site. After replacement of the puddle lights, I covered the bottom "access port" with a clear, circular adhesive Avery label. After one and one-half years and after 100+ touch-less car washes, I've experienced no further puddle light problems.*

* The car wash is one block from my house and I have a monthly wash plan for $25.

Regards

Apparently too troublesome for Acura to get right!

I've enjoyed this specific topic and feel lucky that my puddle lights are still working. I'm also a bigger fan of the Welcome Lights on the TLX as they seem to make the puddle lights obsolete - especially since my mirrors are always folded when approaching the car.

That being said, I am now a much bigger fan of the MDX LED Outer Door Handle Lights! Much better design, nicer effect at night and more practical. Just my $0.02 - please don't ask for change!

Door handle / rocker panel (underbody sidespoiler) have always been a better option :/ the fact that they charge $1000+ for welcome lights option on TLX is crazy
