Puddle Lights Still Working

Puddle lights replaced 7 weeks ago. Still working even after about 14 commercial touchless washes.

you wash your car twice a week? I'm washing mine every 1-2 weeks and I thought I was being excessive. (and to stay on topic, original puddle lights still working for the past 3-4 months of ownership, using touchless automatic wash).

Yep! I wondered if anyone would comment on the wash frequency.
  1. In my younger days, I did hand-washes only.
  2. I now subscribe to a monthly car wash plan for $25.
  3. The car wash is 2 blocks from my house.
  4. So every time I leave the house, I run my car or my wife's SUV through the car wash and then do a "highway drive" for drying.
  5. That keeps them 80% clean.
  6. Occasionally, I'll follow the touchless wash with an application of Adam's Ceramic waterless wash.

I got my car back in October and the puddle lights failed almost immediately, either the first night or the second night after I brought the car home. I’m guessing that the dealer had it washed before I took delivery of it. Thing is that they failed before I gave it its first wash.

Glad to read after two revisions, Honda/Acura have a good solution to the puddle light subassembly

Curious to see what each of the original and the next two two revisions looked like. If anyone has pics, please post.

Be careful with any automated wash. I’ve seen many cars from Acura to Genesis have their trim pieces fade and scratch up really bad due to the harsher chemicals used. A client of mine had a beautiful blue Genesis that he washed frequently and the trim pieces looked as if someone ran steel wool over them and that’s a touchless wash.

No problem.

The trim looks horrible. It’s amazing what harsh chemicals can do. I believe it wore away the coating and now it’s just not uniform anymore.

I went in for my 2nd oil change and had them replace both mirror lights AGAIN and now I noticed the drivers mirror glass only goes up and down but not side to side at all when adjusting. I assume they messed up the actuator but didn't admit it and now I have to go back again when the part comes in. Ughhhhhh!!!

I always wonder ... were they in a hurry or just think you wouldn't notice. Seems like they would have tested the operation of the sub-assembly they just worked on.

I might not have been the fastest technician (or made the most money) but at least I was thorough. I also didn't mind reading a Service Manual (if it was available).

I just had my 2021 tlx type s serviced. Took it in for first oil and filter service at 3784 miles. While setting up the service Appointment I mentioned to the service advisor that both my puddle lights were out. I told him that since I was going to be there for service that I would like to have both puddle lights fixed. I asked him if they had a permanent solution to the issue of the puddle light and his response was that he was not aware of any issue with the puddle lights. Really !!! Hey whatever. I got the oil changed and both puddle light fixed. they broke my passenger mirror but had one in stock so they replaced that too. The parts listed on my receipt are 34761-TZ3-A02 for the left and 34261-TZ3-A02 for the right. Now let's see how long this replacement will last.

The mirrors breaking during a puddle light replacement happens so often it’s becoming hilarious. Dealers keep extra mirrors on hand just for this reason

I had both my puddle lights replaced and even with heavy rain both are going strong.

My dealer was surprised too when I mentioned the lights don’t work. In my head I was like don’t act surprised, a simple google search will explain things. But mine have been working since getting them replaced July 12th.

I've had myType-S for a few weeks now. I've done several car washes, and even drove through the rain a couple of times. They still work fine every time I walk up to the car.

Just had my driver's side puddle light replaced again. The dealership thought this was the 4th time it had been done. I explained to them that it didn't work when I took delivery of the car. They replaced that light, but it went out too. They did tell me that this current replacement is a "new design" and shouldn't go out anymore.....we'll see.

Hopefully this will be the last time you replace it. When I had mine done, I asked if it was the revised part blah blah and they didn’t know. Since it took about 2 weeks to order I’m assuming it was the new part. It’s been working flawlessly for me even through heavy rain, pressure washing directly into the mirror etc.

I have driven through a few rain storms and even washed my car with a power washer with no issues on these new bulbs. Hopefully it lasts for good as my old ones didn’t last one storm.

Got my puddle lights fixed by the dealer, and I decided to add the welcome lights. Here are some photos with the welcome lights just installed by myself today.

Add me to this long list. I took delivery of my ‘21 a year and a few days ago. Like some one else said, I didn’t even know I had them until one of them started working a few weeks into ownership.
They were both replaced right away when they put on the mud flaps which they forgot for delivery. However they were both dead a couple of months later.
I was then told Acura was aware of the “design flaw” and were not releasing any more of their inventory as they too would fail. The service manager went on to say the lights may never be fixed!! “Keep checking in!” was his final suggestion.
Two weeks ago I was told that new “updated” lights were available so I had them installed. So far they are still working even after one car wash and some rainy days. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

The newly designed lights have worked flawlessly for me for a while now. I’ve never had both last this long and I’ve driven through really heavy rain several times. Hopefully this is a good sign.

I had them install welcome lights when they fixed my puddle lights as well. I like how they work independently of each other. When I approach the car, both come on but when I leave, the welcome lights turn off after about 10 seconds or so, then the puddle lights maybe 10 seconds later. Pretty slick, if the puddle lights continue to work, lol.

Do you have your mirrors fold when you lock the car? I also have both the Welcome Lights and working puddle lights. Don’t really notice the puddle lights as the shine on the car when you walk up (until the fold open).

Love the welcome lights!

I don't have the power folding mirrors so mine stay out all the time but you are correct, I hardly notice them when the welcome lights are on.

So the welcome lights look could cool. Any idea if this is something all dealers will install?

When mirrors are folded the light isn't that noticeable, but since I changed to keep my mirrors always extended I can notice the light as soon as you walk up to the car. In really dark places you can see a bit of the light shine on the ground. Would like them to be more whiter than yellowish though

What year make and model do you have? I purchased my 22 TLX Type S from Hunt Valley Acura and wonder if they have the newer bulbs. I haven’t had the issue yet though. Have you had any issues since the repairs?

Thanks

I had both of my puddle lights replaced yesterday. Of course, they broke my passenger side mirror. I'll have to come back in a few days once the part arrives to have it fixed. But, at least the puddle lights are working now .

I had them replaced twice and this second time I noticed my drivers mirror glass wouldn’t move side to side so they ordered me a whole new mirror. I never went back to install it as I have pff on the whole mirror and I figured that the light would eventually stop working which it did. So now I have to go in for a third time.

but I don’t think I will. I’ll let it go as it doesn’t really bother me and I don’t want to have to go pay to have my mirror wrapped again. The glass not moving side to side is not a big deal either as I set it and leave it be.

Had my puddle lights replaced last week at Hunt Valley Acura. SA, John stated lights have a new design. It has rained for the past 4 days in the Baltimore Metro area, and I have washed the car twice since the lights were replaced. So far, so good.

It’s been a while since I had my puddle lights replaced. Many heavy storms and washes but the lights are still going strong.
