Throttle lag

Curious if anyone else has experienced throttle lag, where when I step on the gas the response is not immediate, I have the motor shut set to on so the motor does not stop when the car comes to a stop. I experience this anomaly from a stand still, if the car is traveling at lower speeds, In the 30-40 MPH range. It is very noticeable when attempting to pull out into traffic from a dead stop. I had this on my 2016 and also on my 2020. Both of these vehicles were equipped with the V-6, both were TLX SH-AWD and both had the tech option package, the 2020 has the A-Spec package, The 2016 was turned in with 25k miles and I gas the car from the same pump the majority of the time. Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you.

Many have reported the throttle lag, but it varies. When I bought my car back in 2014, I noticed it from a stand-still while trying to get into a median or when I was attempting to make a right-turn (for whatever reason). Others have also stated the "right-turn" sluggishness. My car seems to behave much better but occasionally the sluggishness rears its head, but I don't risk flooring it to merge with traffic or cross a street much anymore. What mode are you in? Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport+? If you're in Eco, that could be one reason. If you're in Normal, it may still appear. I'm always in Sport mode now, and it occurs much less - I don't know if there's a direct connection with that or not or if that's the only reason.

From what I've read it's just the way drive by wire is. I felt alot of throttle lag. Some people will tell you to disable the traction control but what I found to reduce the lag was installing a sprint booster.

You should find someone with a sprint booster installed and compare. I have a 2018 Aspec AWD and the added sprint booster was worth it.

Yes there is a bit of throttle lag and you kinda get used to it. I've owned my TLX since Nov 2016 and got used to it. I recently installed a VCMMuzzler and I feel that's mostly fixed the issue or at least has minimized throttle lag significantly. Others have also said Sprint Booster helps so you could try that too.

I also installed the vcm muzzler. Takes two minutes to install and the difference it makes is really amazing. Has me thinking about keeping the car a year or two longer than I intended. I didn't think all the good posts about it were true but glad I finally gave in and got it.

Completely agree. I also installed the VCM muzzler and it makes a HUGE difference. The TLX feels completely different.

All this time, I thought the TLX lag was due to the crappy ZF9 transmission. But with the muzzler, I just realized it's the Variable Cylinder Management of the V6 engine that is the culprit. I am baffled that Honda's engineers were not able to get this right! I always thought the VCM would only engage under specific conditions, like highway cruising under low load.

In any case, with the muzzler, I am enjoying the car much more (within the ZF9's limitations, which are now tolerable...).

I’m interested in installing this into my ‘18 TLX A-Spec. Huge lag.
Where would you suggest I buy one? Preferably Canadian source but open to any

Look for "verbatim" on the Honda Odessey forums.
