Steering Vibration, 2015 TLX 4 cylinder base model

New Owner Experience:

Aug 24th: Received delivery of my 2015 Acura TLX

Sept 22nd: Service: steering wheel vibration at highway speeds
> rebalanced tires, tech compared to similar vehicle and determined consistency

Oct 11th: Service: same vibration issue as before. Drove with tech this time, and he confirmed vibration down to 10mph. Dealer held car so GM can test drive… same result, he then test drove two comparable vehicles and felt similar vibration on both, although to different extents. Next, they brought in outside assistance from an Acura Representative (because that’s what a responsible dealer should do when they find a problem that can’t be solved by in house techs). The Acura Rep determined “Normal operation at this time”. So just so everyone knows, normal operation in the 4 cylinder model means there may be vibration in the steering while driving I assume.
Very politically correct. No real safety issues, so no worries.

Oct 16th: Where do I stand now? Working with dealer on a potential swap into a 6 cylinder. Not the vehicle that I wanted or needed, and will cost more, but have you ever driven a vehicle for an hour with a vibration from the steering wheel? Your hands fall asleep! Seriously, I’ve never experienced anything like that before (driving for 33yrs), extremely uncomfortable and annoying.

INVOICE STATES:

“CUSTOMER STATES:. STILL HAS A VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS
TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED VIBRATION FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL
COMPARED CUSTOMER VEHICLE TO SAME MODEL AND CONFIRMED BOTH VEHICLES FEEL THE SAME WHILE DRIVING. TECHNICIAN SPOKE WITH ACURA TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND FOUND BOTH VEHICLES ARE OPERATING NORMALLY. ACURA REPRESENTATIVE TEST DROVE BOTH VEHICLES AND DETERMINED NORMAL OPERATION AT THIS TIME.
NO REPAIRS PERFORMED.”

SO BE AWARE BUYERS: Your new 4 cylinder may have has a slight vibration in the steering wheel. You may not notice it on a test drive, but you will and you will regret this purchase. I do.

My Regrets: Since this is basically a “second” car for me, I only test drove the 6 cylinder because that’s all the dealers had in stock during the first week of release. MY ERROR was assuming that Acura would not skimp on overall ride quality between the 4 and 6 cylinder models. I was extremely wrong in my assumption.

Note: I do not blame the dealer; they have been very professional at all times. Unfortunately they have their hands tied when they recognize a problem, bring in outside assistance, and the representative of the manufacturer determines that the vehicle is “operating normally”

TALLY: I FELT THE VIBRATION, THE DEALER TECH FELT THE VIBRATION (ON TWO TEST CARS), THE GENERAL MANAGER FELT THE VIBRATION (ON THREE TEST CARS) AND THE ACURA REPRESENTATIVE DETERMINED THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. THAT’S THREE YES, AND ONE NO.
SO MUCH FOR DEMOCRACY!

This has already been discussed here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...el-vcm-920442/

Acura knows about the issue... they're basically claiming that it's normal. It's not just the 4 cylinder experiencing this.

It sucks, but it doesn't seem as though they'll be willing to find a solution for this. Watch the video below from them that explains the vibration is "normal."

thanks, I appreciate the feedback, the 4 cylinder does not have VCM.

That's the reason I started a new tread, they were upset that I introduced a 4 cylinder into a 6 cylinder conversation (really!)

You're upset by your problem, I'm upset by mine. You want yours fixed, I want mine fixed. But they're not at all related so why make it any harder for Acura personnel who may see these threads to wade through the issues and understand the symptoms? Not trying to be a PITA but I'm paying a lot of money for this car (as you probably are for yours) and want it right.

I know it is of no help to you, but I've driven my TLX for 3500 miles and all is swell. No vibrations that I can tell and I drive the I4 Tech.

I drive almost 40 minutes each way to work at varying speeds.

I drive a 2.4 Tech as well and I have never felt vibrations like you describe at any speed. My car is very smooth and I have had it on a couple of hwy trips. I just don't see how that is normal operation.

For what it's worth, mine is experiencing this as well. 3.5L V6 AWD 2,300 miles.

The dealer had my car for a week, all verified the issue from mechanic to the GM. I didn't want to replace my driveline so went with a set of OEM Bridgestone tires off the NON AWD TLX V6 and it mitigated the vibration by probably 75%.

Mine was very noticeable the higher the speed went. Balanced the tires twice, rotated the wheels, swapped a set of wheels on from another car etc.

Mine was doing it on ACCELERATION as well which means it's NOT the VCM!!! At any rate, happy for now until Acura puts out a TSB. We had the regional Acura representative involved so Techline is aware. My $0.02

I have the same issue V6 Advance 200 miles and vibration between 60-80 MPH which is unacceptable for a 40k car.

Would you guys mind taking this survey so we can have some solid documentation and see if we can take any further action as a team?

It would be nice to finally figure out which people have it / feel it and which people do not. It only takes 30 seconds to complete.

Thank you!

I filled it out (no vibration at all on my 4 cyl), but don't you need a 17 inch option on the wheels? I believe that's what the 4 cyl has.

I filled it out. I have this vibration bad in my 4cyl. I had it with stock wheels and figured it was a bad tire, so I switched to aftermarket figuring it'd fix the issue, but it did not. My Acura dealer said "Its normal" also. Im Highly irritated by this issue on an otherwise very nice car for the price, but this issue makes it truly undesirably especially considering I drive fast everywhere.

Can you provide any feedback on the results of the GoogleDoc so far? I do not have a TLX (yet) so did not complete the form, but very interested in the data that you have collected.
If you do a "poll" on this forum everyone can see the results, although the poll may not give you the detail of questions as a GDoc.

i would ask to drive a loaner from service, find one that doesnt vibrate and demand they switch out the wheels and tires from the loaner to your car. know someone who did that and it fixed the problem.
