I know not everyone is going to love the TLX but I for one, am a very happy camper right now! I LOVE this car! Will definitely be buying one, with a V6, might I add. I'm so glad Acura got this one right. I love my 4G TL but it pales in comparison to this new TLX! I think they're going to sell 50,000+ units within the first model year. Acura did a great job on the TLX!

I think it looks fantastic. Now I need to see it in person. Wouldn't mind trading in my 4G for this, lets hope for a HP/ MPG bump. Looks like it might even shave some weight off. Does anyone know any details on the PAWS system compared to SHAWD in terms of weight?

I wished that Acura would have gone away with the chrome grill er beak...

But I'm going to reserve judgement on the TLX's esthetics until I see it in person. From the pics so far, it looks good in red from all angles. Not sure about the chrome grill yet, but I suspect it will look better in person than from the pics (like the RLX).

Finally, a solid and exciting Acura commercial/video (of the TLX). It's the best one I can remember in a long time. No more of that "smart luxury" or "aggression" crap.

Well I for one love the rdx/rlx/ilx grill so I find the front end very appealing.
I like the rear lights and the bumper looks great. Wish they did something like that for the ilx rear.

I wish they kept the grill style and just made it bigger like how Mercedes has been doing... But no big rear emblems like the ilx. yuck.

I'd come back to Acura for this car if they have a manual transmission with the V6 SH-AWD model.

No hybrid?

I thought it was a little strange that they didn't mention a hybrid version since the models above and below it have one.

If we knew that the SH-AWD system was identical to the one in the TL now, then it would be obvious that the P-AWS car would be lighter.

However...I don't know if you picked up on it, but he said that the SH-AWD system in the TLX would not be like the system that was in the TL.

I have no idea what that means other than addressing concerns of vectoring to a losing camber situation on a McPherson nose...and their answer was obviously to make it vector differently from the system we already know.

I had a 4G TL 6-6 for 86,000 miles and I have to admit that you could sort of get yourself in trouble in some situations. You were fine in a long turn or even in a single hairpin.

But in a carousel, especially if you had 3 or more turns, you could get in trouble because SH-AWD in the TL was at its best when you were accelerating. So even though the car was excellent, you might have pushed too far by the time you got to the end of the carousel.

I hope I explained that correctly.

All I can think is that they are trying to control the vectoring more carefully because of those things, for those lunatics who go out there and drive a big sedan at 10/10ths.

:-)

Another 5G lover checking in. I'm so happy with Acura and their design team on this. They nailed it. It's futuristic and I'm not let down by it.

A few thoughts:

I don't think we should all jump to conclusions that the 2.4L isn't or won't be FI when it comes out. All we know is that it's direct injected. There have been plenty of press releases where all of the information was not released at that time. So let's all calm down and wait until it's officially on sale to see

It's in the history of the TL that more performance related technologies are released a year or two or three after the first model year comes out, so I wouldn't be surprised, and almost expect, engines like the 2.0L Turbo or 6 speed manual transmission to come out.

There is no reason to be upset that a 3.7L is not offered. The 3.5L is technologically superior and it is going to make more power at lower RPMs anyway. They can and should be able to tune it for more than 310hp.

Just because the 9 speed auto transmission isn't a DCG, doesn't mean that gearshifts won't be super crisp and fast. In fact, the ZF 8 speed (RWD) transmission has been clocked as quicker than one or two of the DCG gearboxes made by other manufacturers out there. Ask me to find my source for this a little bit later, but I know I read it.

I don't think a coupe will be released, regardless of want.

A lot of the things that I just said will all be dependent on how well the car sells. The more it sells, the more that it will push Acura to capitalize on the sales success and release more variants.

THE BOTTOM LINE OF WHAT I'M GETTING AT IS: Acura has the power to surprise still. Just look at these 8 and 9 speed transmissions that they've rolled out with without any hint of them. All we knew about was when they announced their Earth Dream engine lineups almost a year ago, they talked about the DCG 7-speed transmission and then we saw how they made a larger CVT transmission for the Accord.

If the 2.4L was turbo, they would have listed that as a feature.

Less than 1% of the 4G TLs sold were manuals... so I can't see that happening. The fact of the matter is - a vast minority of the people spending $35K+ for a "luxury" Honda want to manually row their own gears. I'm in that minority, but at the same time in this day in age, a lot of people are looking forward to cars that they don't have to drift AT ALL, much less be MORE involved in the driving process. It's sad.

As much as I would like to. I also agree that a coupe doesn't make much sense.

A totally different coupe would seal the deal, you have people that wouldn't or couldn't afford the NSX but would get a CLX or 2017 Legend coupe if they made one for around 50-60grand. Theres a lot of people that still love 2 doors but not little cars. We are a minority though.

LOL. When I saw them release this, the first thing I thought about was you buying a new toothbrush to clean the underside of your TLX and Rocket_man hunting the press release for any reference to "folding rear seats".

I have to admit, I like it. On a scale of 1-10, on aesthetics alone, it's a 7 or 8 to me. Still not a fan of that damn grille, but it works much better in this incarnation. The rear looks sweet. Some angles are simply stunning to look at. They basically did what I had said about the ILX - make it muscular and give it some guts (engine) and it'd be a nice car.

I'm really interested in seeing how the 4-banger sells, and who they're targeting, simply because if you look at Lexus IS sales in the past, from what I understand, 80% of them are IS 250's. Also interested in seeing what kind of mileage it gets.

I was really hoping they'd say they'd bring it out before June, but now, it's not looking that way. Of course this pretty much assures that I'll be able to say "I put a quarter-of-a-million miles on my 3G"... lol.

There are lots of questions still left unanswered. A few points :

1) Pricing. I'm guessing this'll be pushing $50k easily for the top-end/fully-loaded model.

2) How much of what we see won't make it into the production vehicle, thereby making it a bit tamer.

3) Does it have folding rear seats?!

4) Given Acura's history in transmissions, I'm scared to death, but I'm guessing the 9-speed is the much-rumored ZF-sourced tranny. I think Chrysler has had issues with the 9 speed, but I could've sworn it had to do with their software interfacing with it and not the tranny itself. I could be wrong about that.

5) The electronic gear selector and SH-AWD seem to be options?

6) Did Jon Ikeda design this? If so, I want to hug him. I don't give a damn what you all think. Whoever designed this, just made my day.

Can someone photoshop the tlx gt side mirrors, headlight with the orange reflector and the rear number on to the tlx prototype? I'm pretty sure that's what the production model is gonna look like.

*LMAO* Well....I have already rushed out and bought a new toothbrush and I am ready to go I laughed out loud hen I read the comment about the "rear folding seats" cause I was thinking the same thing. You just had the guts to write it

With respect to your point #6....whoever designed this car deserve an award! I am sure that TOV will have an interview with the designers soon and then, the mysterious person will be revealed.

...and with respect to Chrysler's problem with the 9 speed transmission, I thought I read the same as you, it was a software glitch, not a hardware problem.

I agree with you though....still many unknown as to what the production car will look like but I am confident that there will be many accessories available to enhance the appearance of the TLX, even if its a bit tamer when it gets released.

Well I must say that I really dislike the TLX. Let me give a little background. In Jan 2012 I purchased a 2012 Acura TL w/ SH-AWD. Loved that car but being into cycling, the small trunk really didn't work for me. Nor did the roof rack that met the garage when my bike was up there but that’s another story. When the new MDX was announced and close to the launch, prices for a 2013 MDX w/ Tech were very appealing. I thought that the 2014 MDX looked a lot like a wagon and was not appealing in any way. So, "knowing" I wouldn't regret the decision I sold the TL and bought a 2013 MDX and have loved it since I bought it and still do.

I loved the TL but the MDX fit my lifestyle better. I love biking and the MDX fit the bill. Well, about a week ago I had to take my MDX in for a faulty Tensioner Belt. The dealership kept the car for a couple days and gave me a 2014 MDX Tech w/ SH-AWD. I got to drive the vehicle for a couple days and what a surprise. As we all know, Acura has kind of struggled over the last few years and I came away completely shocked. I LOVED the new MDX. So much so that I was looking at trading in my 2013 for a 2014. The new MDX is a great car and I can see why it is selling so well for Acura. I know there have been some complaints about it but from my time with it I had no issues.

Now to my point of disliking the TLX. I’m now a confused man. Acura has completely astonished me with the reveal of the TLX. Like some I had written it off because while the RLX / ILX are nice cars, neither really spoke to me and I expected the same from the TLX. I must admit I was wrong and the TLX has revitalized my hope for Acura. So curse you Acura! I had decided that the new MDX was my next car. Now as I wait for the new TLX to be released in production form I will have to decide…do I get the TLX or the MDX. Both are great choices but I can’t decide. Great job Acura. I eagerly await more information on the TLX to assist in making my decision. Now Acura, don’t screw it up and make it boring in production form.

You can black out the chrome accents on the bumper too.

That pick of the blue car lowered was fire.

Phantom....Why decide...get one of each *lol* I know what you are saying though, its going to be a tough decision. Its always difficult to choose between functionality versus adrenaline.

I think the new MDX is gorgeous and would be a great vehicle for sure....for me, its bigger than what I need a vehicle for so the 2013 RDX is great to fill my CUV/SUV need but styling wise, I much prefer that of the MDX over the RDX.

Now if I had to chose between the MDX and the TLX, man that would be a tough one.

I've heard of a corporate moratorium against any commercial showing the wheels off the ground. Not sure if it was official policy or an unspoken agreement. BUT they have allowed wheels off the ground on a few occasions, the Hot Wheels Integra and RSX are two exceptions that come to mind.

Hey Weather,

I'm with you on that one. Having both would be awesome. Pretty sure I wouldn't live to tell the tale if I brought both home lol.

I must say the 2014 MDX was fun to drive and the difference in Technology between it and the 2013 was astonishing. Makes me extremely excited for any upcoming announcements on the TLX. Can't wait to get details on the interior.

Its gonna be a tough decision for sure.

Acura had a chance to really change the shield or mimic the NSX grille, but didn't...ok then.

So I would just paint match the trim, drop it & flush out the wheels like the concept.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I find the new TLX not very appealing. The front end is still the same and the bulkiness looks like it belongs on an SUV. It still incorporates the trademark ugly that was in the current generation TL.

The rear end looks great but how many other manufacturers did Acura copy? To me, at first glance, it looks like a BMW, Lexus, and Civic all in one. Confused identity?

Same goes for the side profile. First glance reminds me of the Infiniti G37, ILX, and Lexus IS.

Do not want.

What I'm really surprised about is the LKAS. Obviously only the top TLX model will have it most likely. Same as RLX and MDX's "Advance" package.

But to see it come down to the TL(X) is like living with future cars haha
