Problem with VSA and ABS

Hey guys, so I ran into a pretty big problem the other day. So my "headlight" guru friend decided that he wanted to help me install some new lighting into my car that required tapping into one of the headlight components...aka the turn lights. Anyways, this pretty require us to test wires. So he decided his automatic wire stripper was better than my manual one and decided to accidentally, completely cut the white cable. Is so happens that it was my VSA/ABS wire. I'm not sure how its connected or what exactly it's connected to (power line..? , to wheel sensors?) so I'm hoping one of you guys can tell me.

I re-soldered the connection but don't understand how the error codes work. Do they reset after I have fixed it or no? The location of the wire was in the plastic covering exactly to the right of the battery compartment.

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not exactly sure what this pic is supposed to show other than the engine bay and shroud but mybe try disconnecting the battery again and let the car be for an hour or so. If that doesn't work you may have to get the dealer to rid the code for you or a trusted shop. It may clear itself up when it realizes the connection is re-established.

You also should give your buddy a kick in the ass as this could open up warranty issues for you.

+1 (for the ass kicking part)

You may want to consider the dealer replacing the wire completely

The problem is I don't know if I fixed it or not. If I did, would the error code go away or would I have to reset the codes? Do I need a dtc handheld to remove it or could disconnecting th battery work?

You cannot hurt anything by disconnect the battery, so give it a try. How do you not know if you connected it correctly or not? If you cut the wire and you soldered it to the other side of the cut wire, it has to be fixed. Unless you blew a fuse somewhere a battery disconnect should be good to go.

How long is a good amount of time to leave it disconnected? Is it positive to be disconnected first or negative?

I would disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. I don't even think you have to disconnect the positive side, but if you do, disconnect that after you disconnect the negative. Then to reconnect, do the positive first and then negative last. Hope that works for you! I know on my old Honda S2000, certain codes had to be cleared by pulling a specific fuse with some sequence of turning the key/power with the fuse out...dunno if a similar process might apply here. Good luck!

VSA & ABS lights/codes will go off after you drive a few miles (assuming you fixed it)... like 2-5 miles....

I was doing a few dyno pulls on my car, and i set off all the VSA & ABS lights.... i started to panic, but after about 1 mile, they went off

What have you done to your car, that the dealer might void your warranty ?

Put the original stuff back before visiting the dealer, to save your worry.
